Usually, the service either does not have the rights to show that title where you are, or it cannot verify your location. Subscription limits and local blackouts for live events can produce similar messages. Check the service’s availability guidance first; if it says the title should be available, then troubleshoot the location signal. Changing network settings cannot grant the service rights it does not have.
Why a title may be unavailable in your location
Territorial licensing or a changing catalog
Streaming rights can be limited to particular countries or regions and can expire. Disney+ says it enforces geographic restrictions based on where a subscriber accesses the service and may use different methods to verify that location. Amazon staff have likewise explained that third-party Prime Video licenses can be limited by time and geography, so titles may be added to or removed from the catalog. Your plan or another access condition
A location message does not always mean geography is the only issue. Disney+’s Singapore subscriber agreement says available content can depend on service tier, location, rights availability, and applicable law. A live-event blackout
Live sports may be subject to league blackout policies tied to where you are watching. HBO Max says some games cannot be streamed in some locations and provides a lookup that checks a game and ZIP code. A blackout is different from a general catalog issue: use the event-specific availability tool rather than assuming that changing your device or account will make the game available. The service cannot verify your location
The service may block playback if its location check receives a signal it does not accept—for example, an IP address it identifies as blocked or incorrectly located. HBO Max’s live-sports guidance recommends checking device location permission, trying Wi-Fi, restarting network equipment, and disabling a VPN, proxy, or anonymization service when relevant. How to check the cause and troubleshoot
- Look up the title or event with the service. Check its help page or availability tool for your country or region. For live sports, HBO Max’s tool checks availability by game and ZIP code. HBO Max Help Center.
- Check account access. If the title appears in the catalog but playback is blocked, review whether your subscription tier or another access condition covers it. The Disney+ agreement describes tier, location, rights, and law as possible factors. Disney+ Subscriber Agreement (Singapore).
- Allow device location if the app asks. HBO Max recommends sharing device location for live sports on Android and iOS. Follow the instructions for your service and device; location permissions are not a universal requirement for all streaming playback. HBO Max Help Center.
- Retry on a different connection and restart network equipment if appropriate. HBO Max’s sports troubleshooting suggests trying Wi-Fi and restarting the modem or router. These steps may help with a misidentified connection, but they will not change a licensing restriction or blackout. HBO Max Help Center.
- Turn off location-masking or anonymizing services if the service identifies them as a problem. If you use a VPN, proxy, or anonymization service and the app reports a blocked or misidentified IP, disable it and retry. Do not treat location masking as a dependable or policy-compliant way around territorial restrictions. What a location error does—and does not—tell you
The same wording can describe different problems, so the error alone does not establish whether the cause is licensing, a plan limit, a live-event blackout, or location detection. Service catalogs and rules can change, and the relevant guidance is specific: the Disney+ agreement cited here is for Singapore, the Amazon forum reply is an explanatory staff response from 2023 rather than a current global policy, and HBO Max’s instructions address U.S. live sports. Check the service’s own help and terms for your territory and situation.

A router, streaming device, or other physical product cannot grant territorial rights. The supported next steps are to check availability, verify access and location settings, retry the connection when appropriate, and contact the service if the error appears incorrect.
