Delta changed its iPhone app icon in May 2024 after its developer said Adobe threatened legal action over the old icon’s resemblance to Adobe’s “A” mark. The reporting documents a threat and an icon change—not a filed lawsuit, court ruling, or court-ordered redesign.
What happened between Adobe and Delta?
Delta is an iOS retro-game emulator developed by Riley Testut. After the app became available through Apple’s App Store and drew wider attention, Adobe objected to Delta’s former icon. According to Delta’s account reported by TechCrunch on May 17, 2024, an Adobe lawyer emailed Delta on May 7, saying the icon infringed Adobe’s “A” mark and asking Delta to change it by May 17.

Delta said it explained that the design represented the Greek letter delta rather than an “A,” but would replace it. TechCrunch also reported that Apple separately emailed Delta to say Adobe had asked Apple to remove the app over alleged trademark infringement. Delta summarized its decision in a post quoted by TechCrunch: “Adobe is threatening legal action because they think our logos are too similar — so we changed it.”
How did the two icons compare?
TechCrunch described both marks as broken-triangle shapes. In its visual comparison, Adobe’s red-and-white mark was thicker and reached toward the edge of its app tile; Delta’s former purple-and-white mark was smaller and centered. Delta described its design as a stylized Greek delta, while Adobe reportedly argued that it resembled the company’s “A” mark.

The apps also served different purposes: Adobe’s products are creative software, while Delta is a retro-game emulator. Those visual and market differences are relevant context, but they do not establish whether the marks legally infringed a trademark or whether consumers were confused. No court finding is documented in the cited reporting.
Did Adobe sue Delta?
The available contemporaneous reports describe Adobe threatening legal action and requesting a change; they do not establish that Adobe filed a lawsuit. Delta’s May 17 release-note wording, reproduced by MacRumors, was: “Adobe threatened legal action unless we changed our app icon — so we did.” That wording supports describing the episode as a legal threat, not as a completed lawsuit or a court decision.

There was some difference in contemporaneous commentary. John Gruber wrote on Daring Fireball that Adobe’s lawyers “made no threats and were nice about it.” That is commentary at odds with Delta’s quoted post and release notes, as well as the threat described in the reporting. It does not override Delta’s attributed account, and the sources cited here do not establish a later official or judicial resolution.

Delta credited Caroline Moore for the replacement, calling it “an inspired design by Caroline Moore,” according to TechCrunch. Testut described the May 2024 icon as temporary and said Delta planned to update it again to a final design, also by Moore. That was the plan reported at the time; it does not establish which icon Delta uses today.

The May 17 change was reported as part of Delta version 1.5.4. iDownloadBlog’s coverage also listed a revised game context menu, a fix for exporting save files without a file extension, and a repaired melonDS FAQ link. Version 1.5.4 is a historical release detail, not a claim about Delta’s current version.
