India is not categorically excluded from YouTube channel memberships: YouTube publishes membership pricing for India. But a missing Join button can depend on the channel’s eligibility and settings, the viewer’s account or location, or the particular device and watch page. YouTube’s published guidance does not identify an always-on stream itself as a reason the button disappears. Check the channel homepage or its /join page, then work through the creator, viewer, and payment checks below.
First find out what is failing
Separate a button that is missing from a checkout or recurring-payment error. Also compare where the viewer is trying to join: one live watch page, the channel homepage, or the channel’s /join page. Those distinctions help identify whether the issue is with the video page or platform, channel configuration, viewer eligibility, or billing.
- Join is absent on one live page: try the channel homepage or add
/jointo the channel URL. YouTube says the button appears only on eligible watch pages, and it may not appear on every platform. - Join is absent everywhere: check whether memberships are enabled and whether the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements.
- Join appears but checkout fails: check the viewer’s account and payment method; in India, recurring billing may require payment-detail verification and depends on bank support.

Check channel eligibility and membership settings
Confirm the channel can offer memberships
YouTube’s monetization overview lists these thresholds for the relevant YouTube Partner Program access: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Other eligibility rules also apply, including restrictions related to creator location, age, Made for Kids status, and accepting the Commerce Product Module. Verify memberships are active in Studio
In YouTube Studio, look for the Memberships tab and confirm the feature is enabled. If the channel has recently been accepted into the YouTube Partner Program, activation may take up to two days while YouTube reviews the channel. The creator also has to accept the Commerce Product Module to earn membership revenue. YouTube’s instructions for turning channel memberships on or off explain the Studio process.
Test the viewer’s entry point, platform, and account
Try the channel page or direct join page
Ask the viewer to open the channel homepage or append /join to the channel URL. If Join appears there but not on the always-on stream’s watch page, that points to a page-specific or platform limitation rather than proving that the stream duration is blocking memberships. YouTube gives music-partner-claimed videos as an example of watch pages that may not be eligible for the Join button.

Try a computer and check viewer requirements
If the button is missing in an app or on a particular device, test from a computer. YouTube says both the viewer and creator must be in a country or region where memberships are available; viewers must also be at least 18 and signed in. Its computer joining guide describes how to join from a channel page or eligible watch page.
What India’s membership pricing does—and does not—tell you
YouTube publishes a country-specific membership price table for India, so India is not categorically excluded from memberships. In the revised table, the India price corresponding to the USD $0.99 level is ₹59. YouTube says revised prices have been rolling out gradually since May 2025, so a viewer’s displayed price can vary depending on when they joined. Check the current India membership pricing table rather than assuming every viewer sees the same amount.

A country price table does not guarantee that every viewer, channel, device, payment method, or watch page is eligible. It only helps rule out the broad claim that Indian viewers cannot join at all.
If the viewer reaches checkout but payment fails
A failed purchase or recurring charge is different from a missing Join button. YouTube says viewers in India may need to verify or re-enter payment details to maintain recurring memberships under Reserve Bank of India eMandate requirements. A viewer’s bank may also not support recurring payments. Ask the viewer to check the payment verification prompt and confirm recurring-payment support with their bank. Does an always-on stream hide the Join button?
YouTube’s published guidance describes reasons the Join button may not appear and separately explains that a new-member message can show in live chat when someone joins during a channel’s live stream. The guidance located does not say that a continuously running or always-on stream changes membership eligibility or hides the button. Treat stream duration as an unverified cause unless YouTube support or channel-specific diagnostics confirms it. - Identify the failure: is Join missing, or does payment fail after the viewer selects it?
- Compare locations: test the stream watch page, the channel homepage, and the channel’s
/joinURL. - Compare platforms: try from a computer if the viewer is using an app or another device.
- Check creator setup: confirm the Memberships tab is available and memberships are enabled; allow up to two days for activation after YPP acceptance.
- Check creator eligibility: compare the channel with YouTube’s current monetization overview and confirm the Commerce Product Module is accepted.
- Check viewer conditions: ensure the viewer is signed in, at least 18, and in a region where memberships are available.
- For payment errors in India: check payment verification and whether the bank supports recurring payments.
