ASTRO BOT is one of the clearest demonstrations of what the PS5 DualSense can add to a game: its haptics and adaptive triggers are presented as ways to feel Astro’s actions and the places he explores, not just as extra rumble. “Best” is a judgment, not an independently established ranking—but on the specific measure of making controller feedback legible as part of a game world, Astro Bot makes a persuasive case.
What makes Astro Bot a DualSense showcase?
ASTRO BOT is a PS5 game developed by Team ASOBI. PlayStation describes Astro’s adventure as a journey across more than 50 planets, giving the game many settings and actions through which to demonstrate the controller. That scope is context, not proof of controller quality. (PlayStation’s ASTRO BOT page)
The stronger case is how Sony describes the feedback: haptics and trigger resistance can communicate what Astro is doing and what the surrounding world feels like. In that sense, the controller is part of the game’s language. Feedback has a purpose the player can associate with an action or surface, rather than being vibration without a clear connection to play.
How the controller makes the world feel tangible
Haptics distinguish places
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s September 6, 2024 launch release says players can feel the difference between hard metallic surfaces and softer textures in water. Those examples show the intended role of haptics: to suggest qualities of the environment through touch. This is Sony’s description of the feature, not a claim of independent testing. - Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Triggers communicate power-ups
The same release says the DualSense’s adaptive triggers and haptics convey the feel of Astro’s power-ups. Trigger resistance can make an action feel different under the player’s finger, while haptics provide another kind of physical feedback. Together, the effects are meant to help make an ability feel distinct, not simply announce that it has been activated. (Sony Interactive Entertainment’s launch release)
The speaker is a separate part of the experience
PlayStation’s game page also highlights the DualSense’s built-in speaker as a feature that helps make the world feel alive. It is distinct from haptic feedback: one produces sound, the other tactile sensations. Together with the triggers, they give the game more than one way to connect a controller response to an event. Why “best” depends on the standard
There is no comparative score in the cited official material that establishes Astro Bot as objectively better than every other DualSense game. The title’s claim is best understood as an editorial verdict: Astro Bot is a particularly persuasive showcase when the criterion is how clearly controller effects are tied to surfaces, power-ups, and actions.
A rigorous comparison with another game would need to look at several dimensions: whether haptics distinguish different surfaces, whether adaptive trigger resistance communicates actions, how consistently those effects support play, and whether the game remains enjoyable for people who reduce or disable them. Sony’s descriptions establish that Astro Bot uses the first two kinds of feedback and that players can turn effects off; they do not supply a head-to-head comparison or a score across those dimensions.

Can you turn off the DualSense effects?
Yes. The PlayStation Store listing confirms vibration and trigger effects are supported, and says players can turn off haptic feedback and adaptive trigger resistance. That makes the showcase optional: players who prefer reduced effects can disable them rather than having to use them to play. (PlayStation Store listing)
