First check whether the conversation is missing inside your messaging app or whether only its notification text is hidden on the phone’s lock screen. Those are different issues. In Samsung’s message-category guidance, Spam & locked and Archived are separate places to check; lock-screen preview privacy is a notification setting, not a message folder.
1. Work out what “not showing” means
- Conversation missing from the app: Check the app’s Spam & locked and Archived categories, then use the recovery options that apply to that app.
- Conversation is there, but its notification preview is hidden: Check the lock-screen notification setting in Google Messages.
Galaxy phones may use Samsung Messages or Google Messages, and the exact labels and options can vary by app version, phone, software, and region. Identify which app you have open before following a route.
2. Check Spam & locked and Archived
- Open the messaging app you use.
- Tap More options and look for Spam & locked. Samsung’s guidance documents this category in its Messages help: Samsung Messages: how to use it. Samsung’s older Android Messages guidance also describes the category: How to use Android Messages.
- Check Archived separately. An archived conversation is not the same as one in Spam & locked.
These instructions are a starting point, not a guarantee that every Galaxy or app version has identical menus. If you do not see the category, confirm the app name and check whether its menus differ on your device.
3. If only lock-screen notification text is hidden
Samsung’s India guide documents this route for Google Messages:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches#1 Best Overall
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping

- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
- Open Google Messages.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Tap Messages settings, then Notifications.
- Tap Show or hide content when locked and choose the display behavior you want.
This setting controls notification content while the phone is locked. It does not move a conversation out of Spam & locked or restore a missing conversation. See Samsung’s guide to hiding text messages on the lock screen for the documented route.
4. Account for Samsung Messages availability
Samsung Messages is not preinstalled on Galaxy S25 smartphones, according to Samsung’s India guidance. Availability also depends on region and software: Samsung’s US support page says, “Samsung Messages will be discontinued on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or newer starting July 6, 2026,” and says it is not available for download on those devices. Check the app already installed on your phone rather than assuming Samsung Messages is available. See Samsung’s Samsung Messages support page.

5. Use the recovery option for the app and message state
If the conversation is absent from the inbox and the categories above do not contain it, recovery depends on whether it was archived, deleted, or included in a backup. Samsung distinguishes these cases in its guide to retrieving deleted text messages.
- Google Messages archived conversation: Unarchive it to return it to the conversation list.
- Google Messages deleted conversation: Samsung says deleted Google Messages texts are permanently deleted; archiving is reversible, deletion is not.
- Samsung Messages deleted conversation: Samsung documents restoring messages from Trash.
- Messages in a backup: Restore through Samsung Cloud or another backup method only if a relevant backup exists.
Do not treat a conversation in Spam & locked as deleted; check its actual category before using deletion recovery steps.

6. If texts are not sending or arriving
A failure to send or receive is different from a locked or hidden conversation. Samsung’s general troubleshooting recommends checking carrier service and signal, confirming the correct messaging app, restarting the phone, and clearing that app’s cache. These checks address messaging problems generally; they do not establish why a particular conversation is missing. Follow Samsung’s text-message troubleshooting guidance if this is the symptom.

Record the messaging app, Galaxy model, Android and One UI versions, and region. Also note whether the conversation is missing from the app or only its lock-screen notification preview is hidden. Those details help distinguish an app or menu difference from a notification privacy setting or a message that was archived or deleted.
