Alanko’s official biography describes him as a composer, musician, sound designer and producer. It credits him with Remedy soundtracks for Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Control and Alan Wake 2, alongside releases under his Lowland name and the Classical Trancelations projects. Who composed the music for Control?
Petri Alanko and Martin Stig Andersen composed the music for the original Control. Remedy’s 2019 announcement describes their contributions as complementary: Andersen brought experience with eerie composition, while Alanko contributed orchestral and electronic arrangements. The goal was an evolving score suited to the game’s collision of the familiar and the unexplainable, and to its surreal, action-heavy play. Ville Sorsa, then Control Senior Audio Designer, said, “We knew Control required a very specific form of music to fit the aesthetic vision.” Remedy’s 2019 scoring announcement.
How did Alanko create Control’s distinctive sound?
Alanko said he built a special sound library for Control, including custom virtual instruments, and moved away from familiar tunings and harmonies to find a different musical angle. His account describes a process that blended composition with hands-on sound-making:

“I practically recorded everything for several months, including a clothes rack and a washing machine’s rotating drum, as well as a piano’s sound harp. Oh, and my espresso machine.”
This is Alanko’s own description of his process, rather than a production inventory independently documented by Remedy. It helps explain why the score’s identity is tied not just to orchestral and electronic writing, but also to unusual recorded source material.

What is on the Control soundtrack album?
Apple Music lists Control (Original Soundtrack) under both Alanko and Andersen. The listing gives a release date of March 24, 2020, 16 songs and a total duration of 1 hour 15 minutes. Its ℗ line names Remedy Entertainment Plc. and says the release is under license to Laced Music Ltd. t/a Laced Records. Apple Music album listing.
Individual tracks do not all share the same composer credit. Apple Music Classical credits Alanko on pieces including “Et Ratio Principalis” and “Voces Ignotas,” and Andersen on “Counterfeit” and “Vantage.” Check the track-level credit when attributing a particular composition. What else has Petri Alanko composed?
Beyond Control, Alanko’s listed Remedy credits include Alan Wake, Quantum Break and Alan Wake 2. His work as Lowland and his Classical Trancelations releases show that his career also extends beyond game scoring. In a September 2026 interview about Control Resonant, Alanko described beginning work by absorbing project presentations and imagining sounds, feelings, harmonies and melodies from what he had seen.
