For a new phone under ₹15,000 in India, start with the exact variant’s ordinary selling price, then prioritize features around your main use. For many primary-phone buyers, 6GB of physical RAM and 128GB of storage are practical targets—not guarantees of speed or a requirement for everyone. Compare the display, processor and storage, camera performance, battery endurance, software support, network compatibility, and checkout terms rather than choosing by one headline specification.
First, confirm the phone really fits the budget
A model’s advertised starting price may apply to a lower-memory variant than the one you want. Compare the same RAM and storage configuration across phones, and separate the ordinary selling price from bank, exchange, or coupon discounts. A phone is under ₹15,000 only if the specific new variant you are considering is below that amount at checkout.
- Confirm the condition is new, not renewed or refurbished.
- Check stock, seller identity, GST invoice, warranty, and return policy.
- Check whether a charging adapter is included.
- Compare at least two phones with matching RAM and storage configurations.
Prices and availability change, and a model’s starting price does not establish that every configuration qualifies. The available listings and guides do not verify a specific new Amazon India phone variant below ₹15,000, so check the live offer and terms before buying.
How much RAM and storage should you target?
A September 2026 buying guide describes 6GB of physical RAM and 128GB of storage as practical targets for a primary phone in this category. Four gigabytes of RAM may still work for light calling, messaging, payments, and basic apps, but can be less comfortable for multi-year use. Virtual or extended RAM borrows storage; it is not equivalent to physical RAM.

- AT&T Unlocked Device - Compatible with Most GSM Carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, Cricket, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Sprint.
128GB is a useful target if you keep photos, videos, downloads, or many apps on the phone. Your actual storage needs depend on what you keep locally and whether you routinely move or delete files. Check the exact variant rather than relying on a model name or a listing’s headline.
Choose a screen by more than its refresh rate
Compare panel type, resolution, brightness, and refresh rate together. A 120Hz or 144Hz label does not by itself mean a better screen: an FHD+ 90Hz display may suit you better than an HD+ 120Hz display, especially if text sharpness matters. Brightness is important for outdoor use, while screen size and one-handed comfort affect everyday handling.
AMOLED offers stronger blacks and contrast. A good FHD+ LCD can also be a sound choice if the phone is stronger in performance or other features. Whether AMOLED is worth prioritizing depends on your preferences and the trade-offs in the specific phone.

Assess performance for your actual workload
Do not infer speed from core count or a Snapdragon or Dimensity family name alone. Chip generation, storage type, thermal behavior, and software tuning all contribute to responsiveness. For games, consider the chipset and graphics processor, physical RAM, storage speed, thermals, and screen resolution together. A high benchmark or refresh-rate figure alone does not establish sustained gaming quality without relevant testing.
One current comparison point is 91mobiles’ 2026 assessment, which names the Tecno Pova 7 5G its top overall pick and gives it an expert overall rating of 8.3/10. That is the publisher’s rating, not a universal standard or proof that every configuration is under budget: 91mobiles.
Look beyond megapixels when comparing cameras
Megapixel count alone does not predict useful photos. Check whether the exact model has optical image stabilization (OIS), and look for credible evidence on image processing, low-light results, motion handling, shutter response, video resolution, and stabilization. Treat extra cameras as a benefit only if they produce results you will use.

A buying guide notes that a 50MP OIS camera with good processing can outperform a higher-megapixel sensor in low light and video. That is general guidance, not a hands-on comparison of every phone under ₹15,000. Verify OIS and camera features on the exact variant rather than assuming they apply across a product family.
Judge battery life by endurance, charging, and weight
Capacity is a clue, not a runtime promise. A September 2026 guide calls 6,000mAh a strong target in this category, but a well-optimized 5,000mAh phone can be a better choice than a smaller battery paired with faster charging. Consider credible battery tests, charging time, phone weight, optimization, and whether the adapter comes in the box.
For context, 91mobiles reports up to 18h 43m of tested battery life for the realme P4 Lite 4G in its 2026 review. That figure reflects that publisher’s test methodology and configuration; it is not a general runtime guarantee or a comparison result for other phones. See 91mobiles’ phone coverage.

Check the software promise, warranty, and practical durability
Check the Android version on the unit you are buying, then read the manufacturer’s stated operating-system upgrade and security-update policy. Also consider preinstalled software, service-centre access, repair support, and practical water and dust protection. A water-resistance rating does not automatically mean liquid damage is covered; read the model’s conditions and warranty.
Samsung India’s Galaxy M17 5G page lists a Super AMOLED FHD+ display at 90Hz, a 50MP rear camera with OIS, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a 5,000mAh typical battery. It states “6 Gen OS Upgrades | 6 years Security Updates,” but its footnote says this describes Samsung’s current plans, is not a commitment or obligation, and that release content and timing may change. The page showed “Not for sale” when accessed, so these specifications are an example of what to verify—not evidence of current availability under ₹15,000: Samsung India Galaxy M17 5G.
For 5G, verify bands and modes
For a new primary phone near this budget, 5G is a reasonable default if it suits your network and usage. But a 5G badge does not establish compatibility with every operator. Check the exact model’s supported 5G bands and standalone (SA) or non-standalone (NSA) modes against your local operator. If relevant to you, also verify call stability, VoLTE and VoWiFi, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and dual-SIM behavior.

A 2026 buying guide also presents the Tecno Pova 7 5G, POCO M7 Pro 5G, Moto G64 5G, and Samsung Galaxy M17e 5G as options associated with different priorities, including performance, display, camera and battery, and software support. Its price context is a dated snapshot, not a current checkout quote; confirm the model, SKU, and terms before treating any one as a fit: 91mobiles.
