There is no evidence-backed universal winner between Indian cloud regions for YouTube livestream latency. The meaningful comparison is the network path from your specific cloud VM to the YouTube ingest endpoint assigned in Live Control Room—not a region’s name or its ping to another cloud location. Google Cloud lists Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2) as Indian regions, but that does not establish which one reaches YouTube ingest faster. Test both under matched conditions and choose the one with the most stable ingest and best measured end-to-end result.

What “lowest latency” means for a YouTube livestream

YouTube defines stream latency as the delay between an encoder or camera capturing an event and that event appearing on a viewer’s stream. It is an end-to-end measure, not simply the round-trip time (RTT) between a VM and a nearby network endpoint. The result also depends on the encoder, protocol, YouTube’s processing and delivery, and playback behavior.

A low ping from a Mumbai VM to a Delhi VM—or to a cloud provider’s test endpoint—does not tell you how quickly that VM can send a stream to YouTube. It may help describe a particular network path, but it is not a YouTube ingest benchmark.

Are Mumbai or Delhi faster for YouTube ingest?

Both are documented Google Cloud region candidates in India: Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2). Google’s location documentation for its managed Live Stream API discusses factors such as latency, cost, resiliency, and co-location; it is not a measurement of YouTube Live ingest performance from a VM.

  • Entry-level NAS Personal Storage:UGREEN NAS DH2300 is your first and best NAS made easy. It is designed for beginners who want a simple, private way to store videos, photos and personal files, which is intuitive for users moving from cloud storage or external drives and move away from scattered date across devices. This entry-level NAS 2-bay perfect for personal entertainment, photo storage, and easy data backup (doesn't support Docker or virtual machines).
  • Set Your Devices Free, Expand Your Digital World: This unified storage hub supports massive capacity up to 64TB.*Storage drives not included. Stop Deleting, Start Storing. You can store 22 million 3MB images, or 2 million 30MB songs, or 43K 1.5GB movies or 67 million 1MB documents! UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
  • The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
  • Blazing Speed, Minimal Power: Equipped with a high-performance processor, 1GbE port, and 4GB RAM on Board, this NAS handles multiple tasks with ease. File transfers reach up to 125MB/s—a 1GB file takes only 8 seconds. Don't let slow clouds hold you back; they often need over 100 seconds for the same task. The difference is clear.
  • Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.

The official guidance available for this comparison does not publish a Mumbai-versus-Delhi YouTube ingest leaderboard or measured result. No region can responsibly be named the fastest without current testing from the relevant cloud provider, VM configuration, network, and YouTube-assigned ingest endpoint. Other providers may offer different Indian locations, so compare the regions actually available to your account and workload.

How to compare candidate regions fairly

  1. Choose real candidates. Select cloud regions you can use, including plausible locations near your source files, audience-facing operations, or other services the workload depends on. For Google Cloud in India, Mumbai and Delhi are documented candidates.
  2. Use the assigned YouTube endpoint. In YouTube Live Control Room, get the current stream URL and stream key for the test, then enter them in your encoder. YouTube’s RTMPS instructions say to copy the URL shown there; do not assume a fixed endpoint or infer one from a region name.
  3. Hold encoder and protocol settings constant. For every trial, use the same encoder version, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, protocol, and stream configuration. If the settings differ, you cannot isolate region as the reason for a change.
  4. Test at representative times, and repeat. A single run can reflect temporary network conditions. Repeat the tests when you expect to operate, and record connection stability, dropped frames, YouTube stream-health warnings, ingest behavior, and capture-to-viewer delay.
  5. Compare the production outcome. Prefer repeatable ingest stability and acceptable end-to-end delay, not a single favorable ping. Also weigh regional availability, resiliency, cost, and proximity to the rest of your workload.

This is a practical comparison method based on YouTube’s advice to test and monitor streams; it is not a published YouTube regional benchmark.

Keep protocol and encoder settings in perspective

Use the same protocol in each region test

Do not compare one region using RTMP or RTMPS against another using HLS and attribute the difference to geography. YouTube explains that HLS has higher latency because it sends video in segments rather than as a continuous stream like RTMP. Its HLS guidance also says ultra-low-latency mode is disabled for HLS. Choose a protocol that meets your production requirements, then keep it fixed while comparing regions.

Verify upload capacity and stream health

The VM needs stable upload capacity for the encoder settings you choose. YouTube recommends checking upload bitrate with a speed test, testing before an event, and monitoring stream health. Use those checks alongside the region trials: a region that looks promising on paper is not useful if the actual stream shows unstable ingest or dropped frames.

Why cloud latency dashboards cannot pick the winner

Cloud providers publish network metrics, but each has a defined measurement scope. Google Cloud’s latency dashboard reports median RTT between geographic areas and regions containing VMs. Microsoft’s regional statistics describe RTT on its internal Azure backbone. Neither measurement, by itself, establishes the route from an arbitrary VM to YouTube’s ingest endpoint.

Use provider metrics to shortlist or diagnose locations, not as a substitute for sending matched test streams to YouTube. The endpoint and direction being measured matter.
