Change settings to match the shot you want—not because one phone needs a universal “best” preset. On the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the key resolution setting is Photo enhancer > Prioritize quality, though some conditions still reduce photos to 12MP. On Pixel 11 Pro, useful changes include choosing a Camera Look, setting up quick controls, and enabling manual lens selection when you want to pick Ultrawide, Wide, or Tele directly. Treat RAW and Video Boost as specific workflows, not everyday defaults.

These are documented controls and workflow differences, not evidence that one phone takes better photos. The cited manufacturer sources do not provide a controlled head-to-head image-quality comparison.
Galaxy S26 Ultra: settings to change by goal
For the highest listed Photo-mode resolution
- Open Camera > Quick controls > Camera settings > Photo enhancer.
- Choose Prioritize quality. Samsung says Balanced or Prioritize speed can lead to 12MP output instead of 24MP.
- For the documented 24MP zoom bands, stay between 0.6x–1.9x or 5x–9.9x.
Samsung’s bands and resolution behavior apply to the Galaxy S26 Ultra guidance on its US support site, checked October 4, 2026. Prioritize quality does not guarantee every photo will be 24MP: Samsung lists other conditions that can result in 12MP, including zoom outside those bands, close-ups, burst or continuous capture, flash, Night mode, document scanning, temperature, and the Photo enhancer setting. For level framing and hands-free shots
Turn on Composition guide for grid and level lines. Use the timer when you need to step away from the phone or reduce movement from pressing the shutter. These are framing and convenience aids, not image-quality improvements by themselves. Samsung’s quick controls also include exposure, aspect ratio, resolution, timer, flash, Motion photo, and video stabilization; available options vary by mode. For a moving person or pet
Try Tracking auto focus in Camera settings. Samsung documents the feature, but does not establish a success rate for it; inspect the captured image rather than assuming the subject stayed sharp.
For files you plan to edit
Use Pro or Expert RAW when you intend to adjust the image afterward. Samsung says Expert RAW saves both a JPEG and a Linear DNG 16-bit RAW file, and offers manual ISO, shutter speed, white balance, exposure, and focus. For video movement or specialized formats
Consider video stabilization when you are moving with the phone. Samsung also lists high-efficiency, high-bitrate, HDR, Log, and APV options, with controls dependent on mode. Choose a format to suit the editing and sharing tools you actually use: Samsung identifies APV compatibility with selected apps, so do not assume every player or editor will support it. Pixel 11 Pro: settings to change by goal
For consistent color or a creative treatment
Choose a default Camera Look for your usual photos, or select a stylized Look when you want a more deliberate treatment. Google says default Looks affect HDR photo processing, while stylized Looks are creative treatments; the help instructions describe Looks as photo-only. Adjust the available sliders to taste. For a faster, more predictable camera launch
Set Launch mode to the mode you want the camera to open in, and add up to four quick-access controls to the viewfinder. This helps if you repeatedly change the same settings or usually start in the same mode. The exact customization is described in Google’s Pixel Camera settings documentation.
To pick Ultrawide, Wide, or Tele directly
- Open the Camera app and go to the Pro tab.
- Enable manual lens selection.
- Choose Ultrawide, Wide, or Tele rather than relying on the standard zoom control to select a camera.
Google says manual lens selection is available on Pixel 9 and later. When enabled, it replaces the standard zoom control with lens buttons. See Google’s instructions for taking high-quality Pixel photos.

For Video Boost
Enable Video Boost in Video settings only if its cloud-backed workflow suits you. Google requires Google Photos backup to be enabled and Locked Folder and Storage Saver to be disabled. Video Boost follows Google Photos backup settings, so the workflow depends on those settings rather than ending with capture on the phone.
For Pixel 11 Pro, Google documents Video Boost recording up to 8K at 30 fps, with a maximum recording length of ten minutes. Google also lists a supported zoom range of 0.5x–20x. These are feature limits, not comparative performance results. Details and eligibility are in Google’s Video Boost help.

For steadier boosted footage
Google says Pro Stable Video is available on Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL and is on by default. It may activate automatically in some shaky, bright scenes. If you are trying to understand how a boosted clip was recorded, account for that automatic behavior as well as the settings you chose.

The right changes depend on the outcome: prioritize quality for Samsung’s listed 24MP conditions, configure Pixel Looks and lens choice for repeatable control, and use RAW or Video Boost only when their editing or backup workflows make sense.
