Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Start by confirming that the Fire TV Stick is connected to a compatible HDMI port and set to detect your display automatically. Then check audio output, privacy controls, and accessibility options according to your equipment and preferences. There is no single best setup for every TV, sound system, or viewer.
1. Confirm that 4K can work on your TV and HDMI connection
On the Stick, open Settings > Display & Sounds > Display > Video Resolution and select Auto. This lets Fire TV choose a resolution supported by the connected display. Amazon says a notification appears if the HDMI connection does not detect HDCP 2.2.
For 4K playback, Amazon specifies an Ultra HD TV, HDCP 2.2 support across connected home-theater devices, and an internet connection of at least 15 Mbps. Some apps recommend at least 20 Mbps. These are Amazon’s published requirements and recommendations, not a guarantee of uninterrupted playback in every home. Check the TV manual or port labels if only some HDMI inputs support HDCP 2.2, and make sure any receiver or other device in the HDMI path is compatible. Amazon’s 4K Ultra HD guidance explains the requirements.
- If 4K is unavailable: try a TV HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2, and check each connected device between the Stick and TV.
- If the picture works but playback buffers: confirm that the connection meets the published speed guidance; the menu’s Auto setting cannot compensate for an unreliable network.
2. Check audio against the equipment you actually use
Choose audio options based on whether sound comes from the TV, a soundbar, or an AV receiver, and on what that equipment supports. Fire TV audio controls can vary by device. Amazon’s detailed audio instructions cover Fire TV Smart TVs; they are not evidence that every listed control appears on a Fire TV Stick 4K.

Where the options are available, PCM can be appropriate when a connected device needs decoded audio, while passthrough is intended to send supported audio formats onward to compatible equipment. Auto lets the device choose among supported options. Dolby Digital is a format option, not a universal quality upgrade: the connected equipment and the content both matter. If you are unsure, use Auto first, then consult the soundbar or receiver documentation before changing formats. Amazon also documents dialogue enhancement and Bluetooth audio sync for Fire TV Smart TVs, but availability on a Stick should be checked on the Stick itself. See Amazon’s Fire TV Smart TV audio settings for the scope of those controls.
3. Review the three privacy controls separately
Open Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings and review Device Usage Data, Collect App Usage Data, and Interest-based Ads. Menu wording or location may vary by software version.

- Enjoy the show in 4K Ultra HD, with support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- Device Usage Data: Amazon says the operating system collects usage information such as home-screen navigation, settings selection, and opening or closing apps. Turning this control off stops processing for marketing and product-improvement purposes, but does not stop processing needed for device features or Amazon services, nor does it govern every other advertising use.
- Collect App Usage Data: this is a separate control concerning app usage data. Review its description on your device to decide whether to allow that collection.
- Interest-based Ads: this is a separate advertising choice. Changing Device Usage Data does not itself change this setting.
Disabling one control does not make Fire TV private or turn off all collection and processing. Amazon describes the distinctions and limits in its Privacy Settings FAQs.
4. Choose accessibility features for the person using the TV
Open Settings > Accessibility to see which features your device offers. Availability and language support vary by device.

- Adaptive Display: enlarges text, menus, icons, and other interface elements; Amazon describes Large and Larger levels.
- Audio Descriptions: available only for select compatible Prime Video titles. During playback, choose an audio track marked Audio Descriptions, or enable the Prime Video option under Accessibility if it is offered.
Text Banner and magnification are also accessibility options worth checking if they fit the viewer’s needs. Amazon’s Fire TV accessibility guide describes feature and language availability.
5. Find other settings without assuming every Stick has the same menus
Amazon’s Fire TV home-screen guide places video resolution, screensaver, audio output, mirroring, and HDMI CEC under Display & Sounds. Other settings are grouped in areas such as Preferences (including privacy, notifications, parental controls, language, and time), Applications, Equipment Control, My Fire TV or Device & Software (including updates and storage), Accessibility, Network, Controllers & Bluetooth Devices, and Account & Profile Settings.
Use Settings search for a common control; if it does not appear, open the closest category and look there. Labels and locations can change with Fire TV generation and software version, so follow the nearest matching wording on your device. Amazon’s overview, Navigate the Fire TV Home Screen, is a general orientation guide.

6. Treat power and HDMI placement as troubleshooting, not settings
If you are setting up the 2nd-generation Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon’s setup instructions say to use the included wall power adapter rather than the TV’s USB port. An HDMI extender can help if the TV’s port is crowded or difficult to reach; it is not a required upgrade for every installation. These are setup checks rather than changes to the Stick’s settings. See Amazon’s 2nd-generation Fire TV Stick 4K setup guide.
