These are converted versions, not a claim that the original PS1 or PSP discs work in a PS4 or PS5. Sony describes the original Ape Escape listing as enhanced with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. Its US listing shows a $9.99 price. The On the Loose listing identifies it as a PSP conversion and shows the same US price and Premium access. Store details were checked in 2026 and are not price guarantees.
Can you play Ape Escape 2 or Ape Escape 3?
The Store search reviewed did not confirm modern-console listings for Ape Escape 2 or Ape Escape 3. That does not establish that they are unavailable in every country or at every time. Check the PlayStation Store for your region and the current console catalog before assuming either is playable on PS4 or PS5.

How to get the confirmed games
Buy the digital version
Open the game’s PlayStation Store page on your console or in the web Store and check that the listing is available in your country. The US pages reviewed offered each game for $9.99; the UK listing for the original Ape Escape showed £7.99 when checked in 2026. These are regional snapshots, not guaranteed current prices.
Check PlayStation Plus Premium access
The US Store pages also display PlayStation Plus Premium access. Catalog membership and subscription terms vary by region and can change, so verify that the specific game is currently in your local catalog before subscribing. Sony’s Classics Catalog instructions explain how to find eligible games through the PlayStation Plus area on PS5 or PS4. Downloading or streaming requires an eligible membership plan; streaming availability is not guaranteed for every title or region. Sony specifies broadband of at least 5 Mbps for streaming and at least 15 Mbps for 1080p streaming when the game supports that resolution.

What to expect from these converted versions
Original Ape Escape
Sony lists support for DualSense and DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controllers. The listing also warns that the conversion may play differently from the original and does not support PlayStation-console peripherals, so some original functionality may be unavailable. PS5 play may require current system software, and some PS4 features may be missing on PS5. The US listing specifies English voice language; language options can differ by regional product page. The UK listing shows additional voice and screen-language options.
Ape Escape: On the Loose
This version converts the PSP release and may behave differently from the original. PSP peripherals are not supported. Sony lists the game for one player with offline play enabled.
