Vishay completed its acquisition of BCcomponents Holdings B.V. on December 13, 2002. The deal brought a maker of resistors, capacitors, switches and trimming potentiometers into Vishay’s passive-components business; the filing reports a total purchase price of $233.462 million.
When did Vishay acquire BCcomponents?
The acquisition closed on December 13, 2002, according to Vishay’s filing. It was a completed transaction, not just a proposed acquisition. BCcomponents Holdings B.V. made passive electronic components and had operations in Europe, India and the People’s Republic of China. Its reported annual sales for 2001 were approximately $320 million.
What did BCcomponents make?
BCcomponents’ product lines covered several kinds of passive components and related parts:
- Linear and non-linear resistors
- Ceramic, film and aluminum electrolytic capacitors
- Switches
- Trimming potentiometers
Vishay’s filing describes BCcomponents as a manufacturer; it does not establish that the company was a Philips business. The acquisition information cited here therefore does not support a more specific claim about Philips ownership.

How much did Vishay pay?
Vishay’s purchase-price accounting lists a total purchase price of $233.462 million. The filing gives these components of that calculation:

The filing separately says Vishay paid or assumed approximately $224 million of BCcomponents obligations, including indebtedness and transaction fees and expenses. Vishay also exchanged $105 million of mezzanine indebtedness and certain other securities for $105 million of floating-rate, unsecured Vishay loan notes due in 2102. These obligation and exchange figures describe additional transaction financing details; they should not be added to the purchase-price accounting total as though they were another purchase-price line item.
Why did the acquisition matter to Vishay?
The deal added BCcomponents’ product categories and international operations to Vishay’s passive-components business. Vishay characterized the outcome in its filing this way: This major acquisition has significantly enhanced our global market position in passive components.
That is the company’s stated rationale, not an independent measurement of market share.
Can you still buy BCcomponents capacitors?
Yes. In a January 14, 2026 release, Vishay identified BCcomponents devices in its 193 PUR-SI series of snap-in power aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Vishay says the devices deliver up to 30% higher ripple current than standard solutions in similar case sizes. That is the manufacturer’s comparison; the release does not make it a guarantee for every application or operating condition.

When selecting a replacement or new capacitor, match the required voltage, capacitance, case size, polarity and temperature specifications. A family name alone is not enough to establish electrical or mechanical compatibility.
