What the WhatsApp update adds
Meta announced on March 26, 2026, that iOS users can keep two WhatsApp accounts logged in simultaneously, matching the capability Meta says was already available on Android. The profile picture in the bottom tab identifies the currently active account, which can help distinguish work and personal chats. Meta’s announcement describes the rollout as underway, with availability for everyone expected soon; timing can vary by device, account, and region.

AI photo edits and suggested replies
The update brings Meta AI photo touch-ups into chats. Before sending a photo, users can ask to remove a distraction, change the background, or apply a style. AI Writing Help can suggest a response based on the conversation. Meta notes that these features may not be available to all users. Check Meta’s announcement for the feature details.
What you need for a second WhatsApp account
A second account requires a different phone number and a SIM card for that number, or a phone that supports multiple SIMs or eSIM. Each account can have its own profile photo, About information, notifications, and privacy settings. WhatsApp’s multiple-account instructions explain how to add and switch accounts from the primary mobile device.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Account switching is a mobile feature: WhatsApp says it is not available on linked devices. A second account is not simply a second profile attached to the same number; it must be registered with its own number.

Are WhatsApp AI chats private?
Your regular personal messages with friends and family remain end-to-end encrypted. That is distinct from content you choose to send to Meta AI: Meta says the AI can read what you intentionally share with it. Its AI feature guidance also warns that generative-AI responses may be inaccurate or inappropriate.

Private Processing for some AI tasks
Meta describes Private Processing as an optional confidential environment for certain AI processing, with summarization and writing suggestions as initial use cases. Meta Engineering says its design principles include optionality, transparency, user control, stateless processing, and forward security; Meta says the design prevents Meta or WhatsApp from accessing the processed messages after the session. This is a description of the Private Processing architecture, not a claim that every AI interaction has the same protections. Meta Engineering explains Private Processing.

- For a second account, confirm you have a separate phone number and that the phone can use its SIM, multi-SIM, or eSIM arrangement.
- For two-account support on iPhone, allow for a staged rollout; Meta says availability may differ by device, account, and region.
- For AI photo tools or Writing Help, availability may also vary. Meta does not say they are enabled for every user.
- For account switching, use the mobile app rather than a linked device.
