For a mostly static or gently animated 1080p music stream, start with 1920×1080 progressive at 30 fps, H.264, CBR at 5 Mbps, stereo AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, and a two-second keyframe interval. Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it. These are YouTube’s live-ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of the quality every viewer will receive.
Recommended 1080p encoder settings
| Setting | Starting point | When to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1920×1080 | Set the encoder’s output to 1080p. YouTube can detect resolution and frame rate automatically by default. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | For cover art, album artwork, or gentle motion, 30 fps is a practical choice. Use 60 fps when the visual contains motion that benefits from it; higher frame rate is not inherently better for a nearly still image. |
| Video codec | H.264 | YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1. Check that your encoder and workflow support them before choosing a less universal setup. |
| Video bitrate | 5 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 | For H.264 at 1080p60, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps. For AV1 or H.265/HEVC, its recommendation is 10 Mbps at either 1080p30 or 1080p60. |
| Rate control | CBR | Use constant bitrate for the live encoder output. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four. At 30 fps, a two-second interval is 60 frames. |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz | YouTube also lists MP3 as a supported RTMP/RTMPS audio codec. AAC is the listed option for 5.1 surround through RTMP/RTMPS. |
| Picture format | Progressive, square pixels, Rec. 709 SDR | This is the straightforward format for ordinary music artwork; use SDR unless your production specifically requires HDR. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to Google’s servers. |
These settings follow YouTube’s live encoder guidance. The recommendations apply to ingest into YouTube; the service transcodes live streams into formats for viewers on different devices and network conditions. A 1080p source therefore does not mean every viewer receives 1080p.
Set up and test the stream
- Prepare the source. Use the finished music program and visual you intend to broadcast. Confirm that you have rights to the music, artwork, and any other material, and that your planned use complies with YouTube’s policies. A 24/7 format does not exempt a channel from copyright rules.
- Configure the encoder. Set the output to 1920×1080 progressive at 30 fps, H.264, CBR at 5 Mbps, AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, and a two-second keyframe interval. Select RTMPS if available.
- Connect to YouTube. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and enter the stream key in the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your broadcast.
- Test before the public stream. Send representative audio and video motion, then check YouTube’s stream health and listen for clipping, silence, or sync problems. YouTube Help advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
- Check the recording path. If you need a complete archive, verify that any local recording is being written and that there is enough disk space. If using a backup encoder or connection, test the failover instead of assuming it will work.
YouTube’s encoder workflow and listed products are described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Plan upload capacity and reliability
Use the sustained upload capacity at the actual streaming connection, not the download figure from a speed test. YouTube recommends 20% headroom beyond the combined bitrate of the primary stream, backup stream, and other streams. For a single 5 Mbps video stream, that means planning for at least 6 Mbps of sustained upload capacity before accounting for any additional simultaneous streams; a connection that merely reaches that figure intermittently may still be unreliable.

- Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
- Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
- NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
- Prefer a stable wired connection where practical, and monitor the connection during operation. No connection choice guarantees uninterrupted streaming.
- Test at the location and on the network you will actually use. Check stream-health messages and verify that audio and video remain synchronized.
- If continuity matters, plan a tested backup path. YouTube’s guidance covers bandwidth and network reliability in its streaming tips.
Understand 24/7 replay and DVR limits
Do not rely on YouTube to preserve one complete replay of an uninterrupted 24/7 stream. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. If retaining the full program matters, make and verify a local recording or another recording arrangement. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams and DVR on live streams.
Choose how to keep the stream running
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming and lists software, hardware, and cloud options; it does not establish that a paid hardware encoder is required. Choose based on the visual workload, sustained upload capacity, failover needs, and whether you need a local recording.

- Software encoder on a computer: gives you direct control over the output, but the computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available.
- Dedicated hardware encoder: may suit an unattended on-site setup, but it still depends on the local network and power. YouTube does not prescribe a particular model for an Indian music stream.
- Cloud playout: can keep prerecorded video streaming without a home computer left running. YouTube’s list includes services described for continuous streams, including Gyre; its listing is not an endorsement or confirmation of suitability for this use case.
Or let it run in the cloud
