Announced in 2008, its 60 mm × 55 mm evaluation module supported FM, DAB, DAB+, DMB-A and DRM. It was a design for manufacturers to evaluate and integrate—not a Mirics-branded radio sold directly to consumers.
What was the Mirics FlexiRF platform?
FlexiRF combined a multi-band radio-frequency (RF) front end with demodulation and audio-output functions. Mirics presented its reconfigurable tuner approach as a way to adapt one receiver design to different frequency bands and broadcast standards, while aiming to retain sensitivity, selectivity, signal handling and power efficiency.
The 60 mm × 55 mm module announced in 2008 was a complete consumer-radio reference design for evaluation and integration. The intended customers were electronics manufacturers, which could build the technology into products such as portable radios or other consumer devices.
Which standards and frequency bands did Mirics support?
Support depended on the particular tuner, interface chip and software configuration. The product family covered radio and television, but no single configuration should be assumed to receive every standard in every region.

The frequency ranges in the table describe the MSi001/MSi002 tuner family, not a guarantee that every finished receiver covered all of them. Similarly, the standards listed for FlexiTV and MSi2500 describe platform capabilities across configurations rather than a universal receiver specification.
How did reception and demodulation work?
In the FlexiTV architecture, tuner hardware received and converted the selected radio-frequency signal, while a host processor performed demodulation in software. The MSi2500 provided a related interface path: it digitized analog baseband from a Mirics poly-band tuner, carried out signal processing and sent the output to a PC over USB 2.0.

Software selection of regional standards made it possible to adapt a product design for different broadcast systems without designing a separate RF tuner for every market. The trade-off is that software demodulation uses host processing resources and can add to power demand. Mirics chief executive Simon Atkinson described that balance this way: “We can support any TV or radio standard with this chip set, but implementing playback in software will consume more power.”
Could one Mirics receiver work worldwide?
Not automatically. The broad tuner coverage and software-configurable standards were intended to make regional product reuse easier, but an actual receiver still needed the appropriate tuner and interface, compatible demodulation software, and support for the local broadcast standard and band. The documented lists do not establish that one finished Mirics device could receive every listed service worldwide.

Product makers also had to weigh flexibility against implementation constraints. Relevant comparison points include supported standards, frequency coverage, host-processor dependence, power use, component cost, module footprint and the effort required to adapt a product for another region.
What did the historical performance and cost figures mean?
Mirics’ FlexiTV datasheet gives a figure of 325 mW for a stated NorDig 2.0 performance condition, including USB-interface power. It also gives a total PC TV receiver bill of materials below US$5. These are historical vendor figures; the indexed datasheet copy does not state its publication year, and the values should not be treated as current component pricing or a measured result for every configuration.

Is Mirics FlexiRF available today?
FlexiRF, FlexiTV, MSi001/MSi002 and MSi2500 are best treated as historical or legacy technology. Historical announcements and product documents do not establish current ownership, support or retail availability in 2026. Anyone considering a legacy design would need to verify component stock and compatibility with a distributor independently.
