ViaWest’s 2015 acquisition of INetU expanded its services in managed cloud, hosting, security and compliance, and added East Coast and European cloud locations to its footprint. The reported geography included one primary facility in Pennsylvania plus cloud capacity in Virginia, Washington, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands; the records do not establish a dedicated ViaWest-owned data-center building in every location.
What was the INetU acquisition?
ViaWest announced the agreement on November 16, 2015. Its announcement described the acquisition consideration as US$162.5 million (ViaWest’s announcement, reproduced by Telecom Ramblings). Shaw Communications, ViaWest’s owner at the time, later reported in an SEC filing that ViaWest closed the purchase of 100% of INetU’s shares on December 15, 2015, recording consideration of US$162 million (Shaw’s 2016 SEC filing). These are figures from different company records: the announced amount and Shaw’s amount recorded at close.
INetU was a managed hosting and cloud-services provider headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania. BV Investment Partners, INetU’s seller, says the company was founded in 1996 and supported business applications in sectors including ecommerce, healthcare, financial services, software as a service, education and government (BV Investment Partners’ announcement).
What capabilities and locations did ViaWest add?
Managed cloud, hosting and security services
ViaWest and Shaw described INetU’s capabilities as including public, private and hybrid cloud, managed hosting, and managed security and compliance services. The strategic fit was broader than simply adding server space: INetU brought services for organizations that needed managed infrastructure and cloud deployments as well as security and compliance support.

ViaWest president and CEO Nancy Phillips said, “Our acquisition of INetU advances our offerings and strengthens our position as a premier Hybrid IT solutions provider.” The quotation appeared in ViaWest’s November 16, 2015 announcement.
East Coast and European cloud locations
Shaw’s filing described INetU as Pennsylvania-based, with a primary facility in Pennsylvania and cloud capacity in Virginia, Washington, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. ViaWest’s announcement characterized the acquisition as an expansion into East Coast and European cloud locations. The distinction matters: the sources identify a primary Pennsylvania facility and cloud capacity in the other listed locations, not a separately acquired physical data-center building in each one.

How did the acquisition change ViaWest’s footprint?
Before the deal, Shaw reported that ViaWest operated 28 data centers and had more than 680,000 square feet of usable raised-floor space across eight western U.S. markets. Those are ViaWest figures reported by Shaw in 2015, before the INetU acquisition—not current operating statistics (Shaw’s 2015-era footprint disclosure).
At a high level, the deal paired ViaWest’s western U.S. data-center presence with INetU’s Pennsylvania base and additional cloud capacity in the eastern United States and Europe. It also combined ViaWest’s colocation and data-center business with INetU’s managed hosting and cloud services. These are descriptive differences in geography and service mix, not a measured comparison of performance.

What is known about the former INetU sites today?
The cited records document the locations and services described around the 2015 transaction. They do not establish who owns or operates the former INetU facilities today, whether each location remains open, or whether the services are still offered under the same name. The locations above should therefore be read as historical acquisition-era information, not as a current facility directory.
