Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a small radio to play internet stations, its specifications must explicitly list Wi-Fi or internet radio. DAB/DAB+ and FM are broadcast reception, not internet access, and Bluetooth alone only lets the radio play audio from a paired device. Once you confirm the delivery method, compare size, power, station access, controls and sound for the place you plan to use it.
Start by checking how the radio receives stations
Internet radio streams stations over an IP network, usually Wi-Fi. DAB/DAB+ and FM receive terrestrial broadcasts and do not require an internet connection. The distinction matters: a compact radio described as digital may be a broadcast-only set.
- Internet radio: look for an explicit Wi-Fi or internet-radio specification. Check whether setup works with your home network and whether the services you want are available in your region.
- DAB/DAB+ and FM: useful alternatives when local broadcast stations matter, but reception depends on coverage and location.
- Bluetooth: useful for sending audio from a phone or other paired device. It does not give the radio Wi-Fi or direct access to online stations.
A hybrid radio combines internet radio with one or both broadcast tuners. The Roberts Stream 219 is one example: Roberts lists internet radio, DAB+, FM, podcasts, Bluetooth and Spotify Connect, while What Hi-Fi? confirms onboard Wi-Fi for internet stations (Roberts Stream 219 specifications; What Hi-Fi? review). By contrast, What Hi-Fi? lists no network features for the Roberts Revival Petite 2; it receives DAB/DAB+ and FM and supports Bluetooth, so it is not an internet radio (What Hi-Fi? review).
Match the size to its place, not just the word “small”
Decide where the set will live: a bedside table, kitchen counter, desk or travel bag. Compare published dimensions and weight with the space you actually have. “Small” can describe a slim tabletop radio without meaning pocket-sized, and compact dimensions do not tell you whether a model has Wi-Fi.
#1 Best Overall
- Compact Internet radio: Handheld, lightweight, practical, and easy to use. Built-in rechargeable battery for power. Store your favorite stations up to 150 and access the top 5 stations with a touch of the 1-5 preset buttons.
- Discover a wide selection of Internet radio stations: Using the [Skytune Search] button is a breeze! Input the CALL letters or keywords of the station name to find the stations. User-friendly web browser control to manage/edit your favorites. Contact us if you can’t find your favorite station.
- Ordinary FM Radio: In addition to Internet radio, this device also receives local FM stations
- Sleep & Dim buttons: You can turn off the display during bedtime and set the radio to auto-off for sleep. Option to display the clock while the radio is playing.
- Connect with other media sources: It allows you to play audio from a Micro SD card and use it as a Bluetooth speaker. You can also play content from UPnP/DLNA-compatible network devices.
For a scale reference, TechRadar lists the Pure Elan Connect+ at 115 × 82 × 247 mm, with the 82 mm figure representing its depth. It also lists a 2.4-inch colour display and 3 W stereo output (TechRadar buying guide). These are figures attributed to TechRadar, not independently measured dimensions; verify current specifications and model status before buying.
Choose power for how you will use it
Mains power makes sense for a radio that stays in one place. A battery-powered model is easier to move or use away from an outlet, but check the battery type, whether batteries are included, how charging works and whether the set can also run from mains power.

Roberts rates the Revival Petite 2 for up to 20 hours of battery play time. Its 2024 manual describes this as approximate and says runtime varies with volume, battery age and temperature; it also gives an approximate six-hour charging time. Treat these as manufacturer specifications under unspecified typical conditions, not a guarantee for every listening session (Roberts Revival Petite 2 manual, 2024).
For the Pure Elan Connect+, TechRadar lists four-AA-battery or micro-USB power. Check the current product information for the exact battery and charging arrangement before relying on that specification.

Compare station access and everyday controls
A long feature list is less useful if your favourite station is hard to find. Check how the radio searches for stations, saves presets and switches between internet, DAB/DAB+ and FM. Physical controls may be convenient at a bedside or kitchen counter; an app or network setup may matter if you prefer configuring the radio from a phone. Confirm that named services are supported where you live.
Preset counts can help distinguish models, but note which listening modes they cover. Roberts lists 60 total presets on the Stream 219: 20 internet, 20 DAB and 20 FM (Roberts Stream 219 specifications). The Revival Petite 2 manual lists 20 total, split between 10 DAB and 10 FM; those presets do not imply internet-station support (Roberts manual, 2024).

Check reception where you will listen
Internet listening depends on usable Wi-Fi in the radio’s intended spot. If the signal is weak at the bedside or kitchen, the radio may not perform there as reliably as it does near the router. For DAB/DAB+ or FM, local coverage and indoor placement affect reception; extend the aerial fully and try positioning the set near a window if reception is poor. A radio with both network and broadcast modes gives you alternatives, but each still depends on its own signal conditions.

A smaller enclosure can limit bass depth and loud playback compared with a larger speaker, so decide whether you mainly want clear speech, background music or fuller music listening. Look at speaker arrangement, headphone output and volume controls as well as headline wattage. TechRadar characterizes the Pure Elan Connect+ as better suited to voice radio and background music than high-fidelity listening; this is the guide’s assessment, not a hands-on claim here (TechRadar buying guide).
