If your Samsung Galaxy Tab won’t charge, starts and stops, or charges unusually slowly, begin with the outlet, cable, and adapter. Then check the charging port, temperature or moisture warnings, and battery settings. A charging problem alone does not prove the battery has failed: Samsung lists accessories, connection issues, debris, heat, moisture detection, and charging settings among possible causes. Steps and fast-charging support vary by Tab model and software version.
1. Check the outlet and cable connections
- Try a working wall outlet. If possible, confirm the outlet works with another device.
- Reconnect the cable at both ends. Make sure it is firmly seated in the tablet and adapter. Check the cable, connector, and adapter for visible damage.
- Use a wall adapter rather than a computer port for this test. Samsung notes that fast charging may not work from a PC or standard USB connection. See Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance.
If the tablet charges only when the cable is held at a particular angle, stop adjusting or forcing the connector; the cable or port may be damaged.
2. Test a compatible charger and cable
Try a known-good charger and cable that are compatible with your exact Galaxy Tab model. Damaged or incompatible accessories can cause slow, interrupted, or failed charging. If a different compatible set works, the original charger or cable is a likely cause.
There is no single charger wattage that suits every Galaxy Tab. Samsung’s general fast-charging guide gives examples of accessory classes: 15W Fast Charging with a 15W USB-A adapter and USB-A-to-micro-USB or USB-C cable; 25W Super Fast Charging with a 25W USB-C adapter, with a 5A USB-C cable recommended for maximum results; and Super Fast Charging 2.0 at 45W–60W with a 5A USB-C cable. These are general examples, not specifications for every tablet. Check your model’s supported charging standard, connector, and input limit before choosing accessories. 3. Inspect the charging port safely
- Turn off the tablet.
- Use a flashlight to look for lint, dust, or visible damage in the port.
- If you see loose debris, remove it carefully without using metal objects or liquids.
Do not probe a connector that looks bent, corroded, or loose. Stop and arrange service if the port appears damaged or the charging problem continues. Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance advises careful debris removal without metal objects or liquids.
4. Let the tablet cool or dry before charging
If the tablet is hot
Unplug it and let it cool before trying again. Samsung Support explains: “If the device temperature becomes too high, charging may stop temporarily or charging speed may decrease.”
If you see a moisture warning
Do not connect power while the port is wet. Samsung says: “If moisture is detected in the charging port, charging may stop to help protect the device from damage.” Gently shake the device, wipe it with a soft, clean cloth, and leave it in a well-ventilated area with cool air. Wait until the port is completely dry before reconnecting the charger. See Samsung’s charging and moisture guidance.

5. Check fast charging and battery protection
On models that support it, open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and check whether Fast charging is enabled. The menu names and available options differ by model and software version; fast charging also requires compatible accessories.
Check Battery protection as well. Depending on the selected setting, the tablet may limit its maximum charge or stop charging before reaching 100%. That behavior can be intentional rather than a fault. Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance covers charging settings and protection limits.
6. If the tablet appears completely dead
For a tablet that shows no response, Samsung’s US phone and tablet instructions recommend connecting a known-good Samsung travel charger to a working outlet and leaving it connected for at least one hour. A completely depleted device may take up to 10 minutes to show a charging indicator; that timing is a procedural observation, not a guarantee that every tablet will respond within that period. 7. Run a charging diagnostic or arrange service
If your tablet is still charging poorly, Samsung Members may offer a cable-charging diagnostic. Open Samsung Members, select Support, start the diagnostics flow, and choose Cable charging. App screens and diagnostic availability can vary.
Contact Samsung Support or arrange a service-center inspection if the Tab still will not charge with known-good compatible accessories, the port appears damaged, or charging time or battery use has deteriorated significantly. Can you charge a Galaxy Tab wirelessly?
No. Samsung’s US support page says Galaxy Tab devices are not compatible with wireless charging, so a wireless charging pad is not a workaround. Samsung’s wireless charging compatibility guidance covers this limitation.
