Do not send a second transfer. First determine whether your Cardano transaction is unconfirmed on the source chain, waiting in the bridge relay, missing on the destination chain, or being held by an exchange. Save the transaction hash and evidence, check the bridge’s official history and a chain explorer, verify that the exact asset and route are supported, then contact official support if the source transaction is confirmed but the destination leg does not complete. A bridge pause caused by a security incident may also involve exchange restrictions and forensic investigation; no bridge can override an exchange hold.
Why a Cardano bridge withdrawal can look frozen
A bridge transfer is not one transaction with one status. It normally has three distinct stages:
- Source-chain confirmation: your wallet submits the transaction and the Cardano network records it.
- Bridge processing and relaying: the bridge detects the source transaction, validates it, and prepares the corresponding operation on the destination network.
- Destination-chain settlement: the wrapped asset, unwrapped asset, or payout appears on the destination chain or at the receiving service.
A delay at any stage can appear as a frozen withdrawal. Other explanations include an unsupported token or route, bridge maintenance, an operator-initiated pause, an exchange compliance restriction, or a security response. A wallet message that says “pending” does not by itself prove that funds are lost.

Stop duplicate submissions
Do not retry, cancel, or approve a second transfer while the first one is unresolved. A second submission can create two legitimate transfers, complicate support’s investigation, or send funds through a route that is currently paused. Wait until you know whether the original transaction is confirmed, pending, failed, or already settled on the destination chain.

Preserve a complete evidence record
- Source-chain transaction hash.
- Source and destination chains.
- Exact token name and contract address or Cardano asset identifier.
- Amount and the wallet address that sent it.
- Destination address or exchange deposit address.
- Date and time you initiated the transfer, including your time zone.
- Screenshots showing the bridge status, wallet confirmation, and any error message.
Keep the original hash even if the bridge later changes its display. Support teams use it to correlate the source event, relay record, and destination transaction.
Find the stage where the transfer stopped

Check the source chain first
Open the explorer for the Cardano transaction and search the hash exactly as recorded by your wallet. A confirmed transaction should show its block inclusion and the transferred asset. If there is no matching transaction, the wallet may not have broadcast it, or it may have rejected it before submission. If the explorer shows a pending or unsuccessful state, resolve that source-chain issue before troubleshooting the bridge.
Then check the bridge’s own history
Bridge interfaces often track stages that a general explorer cannot show. Milkomeda’s instructions direct users to Cardanoscan for transaction details after blockchain confirmation. Wanchain documents a staged history sequence: “In Progress (1/2),” “In Progress (2/2),” and “Success.” Record the exact wording and timestamp because support may need to know which leg stopped.
Confirm that the route and asset are eligible
Verify the exact token, not just its display name
Two assets can have similar names while using different contract addresses or asset identifiers. Compare the identifier in your wallet with the bridge’s supported-asset list. Milkomeda states that an asset must be present in its token registry before wrapping or unwrapping can occur. If the asset is not registered, a transfer can remain unprocessed even though the source transaction is valid.

Verify both directions and both networks
Support can differ by direction: a bridge may support Cardano-to-EVM transfers but not the reverse for a particular asset. Check the selected source chain, destination chain, token, and wallet type before attempting anything else. Wanchain’s documentation requires the appropriate Cardano-compatible and EVM wallets for the selected chains. A wallet that can hold an address is not necessarily supported for that bridge operation.
Check the destination address
Make sure the destination address belongs to the wallet or exchange account you intended to use and is on the network selected in the bridge. Do not ask support to “redirect” a transfer to a different address unless the bridge explicitly documents that procedure; many on-chain transfers cannot be reversed after settlement.
Separate a bridge delay from an exchange hold
If the destination-chain explorer shows a completed deposit but your exchange balance or payout is still unavailable, the bridge may have finished its work. Exchanges can delay deposits, restrict withdrawals, or freeze related accounts and addresses for compliance or security reasons. Review the exchange’s own status page, account notices, and verification requests. Use the exchange’s official ticket system rather than a bridge support channel for an exchange-only restriction.

Check whether a security pause is in effect
Use official incident notices
During an exploit or coordinated pause, bridges may disable their front ends, stop relayers, or block withdrawals while transactions and addresses are traced. On July 21, 2026, the Midnight Foundation stated: “We can confirm that the incident is isolated to the Wanchain bridge.” Its update said exchanges restricted movement of stolen assets and froze related accounts and addresses, and it directed users to rely on Wanchain, participating exchanges, and Midnight for updates.
That kind of response can make an ordinary user’s transfer appear frozen even when the source transaction is genuine. Do not infer a release date from a social-media rumor; wait for a notice from the bridge, the relevant network organization, or your exchange.
Understand why a shutdown can last
Iagon’s account of the 2022 Nomad exploit describes a bridge front end being shut down, exchange deposits and withdrawals being halted during investigation, and recovery work continuing through official channels. A similar incident response can require transaction tracing, contract review, coordination with exchanges, and decisions about which addresses may move. Those steps are not equivalent to a routine confirmation delay.

- Use only the support link or email published on the bridge’s official domain.
- Ignore unsolicited direct messages claiming to be bridge staff.
- Never disclose seed words, private keys, wallet passwords, or remote-desktop codes.
- Never sign an unfamiliar wallet approval because someone promises recovery.
- Do not pay a “recovery service” that guarantees release of bridged funds.
Escalate a confirmed-but-missing transfer safely
- Open the bridge’s official support page from its own domain, not from a message or search advertisement.
- Provide the source transaction hash, source and destination addresses, route, asset identifier, amount, timestamps, wallet type, and screenshots.
- State the stage clearly: for example, “Cardano transaction confirmed; bridge history remains In Progress (2/2); no destination transaction visible.”
- Include any explorer links generated by the official explorer interface, but do not alter the hash or add unverified claims.
- Keep the support ticket number and reply in the same thread so the evidence remains together.
Wanchain’s manual advises contacting support when a transaction remains unsuccessful for an extended period, such as more than three hours. Treat that as an escalation example, not a universal deadline: processing time depends on the networks involved and bridge conditions.

What recovery timelines can and cannot tell you
There is no universal recovery-time statistic for Cardano bridges. Wanchain says transaction duration depends on the networks involved and bridge processing, and its confirmation table can change with external conditions. A normal relay delay, an unsupported route, an exchange review, and an exploit-related shutdown have different timelines.

Practical playbooks for common cases
Case: the wallet says pending and the explorer shows nothing
Copy the hash from the wallet, refresh the wallet connection, and search the source-chain explorer. If no transaction exists, the wallet may never have broadcast it. Check fee balance and wallet error details. Only after confirming that no transaction was submitted should you consider initiating a new transfer, and first verify the route and asset again.
Case: Cardano confirms the transfer but the bridge remains “In Progress”
Save the confirmed source hash and the bridge status screenshot. Check whether the asset is registered and whether the selected route is currently supported. Continue monitoring the official history. A second transfer will not speed up the first and can create a separate unresolved case.

Case: the destination leg failed
Record both the source confirmation and any destination error or failed hash. Contact official bridge support with the complete evidence package. Ask whether the bridge has a documented refund, retry, or manual-relay procedure; do not approve a contract call supplied by an unverified helper.

Case: the exchange shows the deposit but will not credit it
Confirm the destination transaction and memo or tag requirements, if the exchange uses them. Open an exchange ticket with the transaction hash and destination address, and complete only the verification steps shown inside the authenticated exchange account. Do not send more funds to trigger crediting.
Case: an incident notice names the bridge
Compare the notice’s scope with your route, asset, and transaction time. Preserve all evidence, stop interacting with the bridge front end unless an official update instructs otherwise, and monitor the named organizations’ channels. Treat any direct-message “support” account as hostile until independently verified.
Preventing a repeat on future transfers
- Check the bridge’s supported-token registry immediately before sending, especially for newly issued or similarly named assets.
- Confirm the direction, destination network, wallet compatibility, and exchange deposit requirements.
- Send a small test amount when the bridge and route documentation permit it, then wait for full settlement before moving a larger balance.
- Keep the transaction hash, screenshots, and timestamps until the destination balance is visible and usable.
- Bookmark official bridge and explorer pages so you are less likely to follow an impersonation link during an incident.
- Use a hardware wallet or other custody controls if appropriate, but understand that better key custody cannot unfreeze a bridge contract, relayer, or exchange account.
When should you consider the funds lost?
A pending bridge display is not proof of loss, and there is no authoritative loss figure that applies to all Cardano bridges. The meaningful questions are whether the source transaction is confirmed, whether the bridge recognizes it, whether a destination transaction exists, and whether an exchange or incident response is blocking use. If the source is confirmed and the destination leg is absent, preserve the evidence and use official support; do not declare the funds lost or attempt an unverified recovery procedure based only on elapsed time.
