Take the Gear S3 out of the liquid and dry its exterior with a clean, soft cloth. If it contacted anything other than fresh water, Samsung says to rinse it gently with still fresh water immediately, then dry it thoroughly. If it behaves abnormally or you suspect liquid entered the watch, arrange a service inspection; IP68 does not rule out water damage.
What to do right away
- Remove the watch from the liquid. Do not leave it submerged or expose it to more water.
- If it was fresh water, dry the outside thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth, as Samsung advises for the Gear S3. A soft microfiber cloth is suitable; drying the exterior does not repair internal damage. Samsung’s Gear S3 water-resistance guidance

- Avoid heat and aggressive cleaning. Samsung’s general water-exposure guidance warns against hair dryers and other heat sources, chemical cleaners, abrasives, and compressed air. These are not internal-repair instructions. Samsung’s water-exposure guidance
- Seek service if you suspect ingress or the watch acts abnormally. Arrange a Samsung or qualified service inspection rather than opening the sealed watch or relying on drying alone. Samsung’s current general guidance recommends inspection after water exposure, even if the device appears to work normally.
What the Gear S3’s IP68 rating does—and does not—mean
Samsung Singapore lists the Gear S3 as IP68 water- and dust-resistant, with an immersion limit of 1.5 metres for no more than 30 minutes. That stated limit is not permission for deeper, longer, forceful, or otherwise uncontrolled exposure. Samsung also warns that water or dust can still damage the watch if it enters the device. IP68 is not the same as waterproofing. Samsung says forceful or prolonged exposure can exceed the intended protection. The rating does not establish protection for every liquid, temperature, pressure, exposure time, or condition of an aging or damaged seal. When to get the watch inspected
Arrange a service inspection if the Gear S3 malfunctions after exposure or you have reason to think liquid got inside its sealed body. Symptoms are not required for Samsung’s general recommendation: its current water-exposure guidance advises inspection after exposure even when the device appears to work normally. Do not treat a return to normal operation after drying as proof that no liquid entered the watch. The available guidance does not establish that drying alone can restore a water-damaged Gear S3, nor does it support opening the sealed case as a do-it-yourself fix.
