If your PlayStation Network (PSN) account may be hacked, secure the email account linked to it first, then try PlayStation’s official account recovery. If you cannot access that email, your sign-in details changed without permission, or two-step verification (2SV) blocks you, contact PlayStation Support through its Online Assistant. Check purchases after you regain access, and avoid recovery links sent by strangers.
1. Secure the email account linked to PSN
Start with the email address used as your PSN sign-in ID. PlayStation’s compromised-account guidance says to change that email account’s password first. If you cannot change it, contact your email provider. Protecting the inbox matters because account recovery may rely on messages sent there.

2. Choose the recovery route that matches your access
You can access the associated email
Go to Account Management and select Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account. Follow the prompts. Navigate to PlayStation Support yourself rather than following a reset link in an unsolicited email, direct message, or QR code.
You use a passkey and have another registered device
Use that device to sign in, then register a new passkey. If no other registered device is available, PlayStation directs you to its Online Assistant.

Your sign-in ID, online ID, or password changed unexpectedly
Contact PlayStation through the Online Assistant if account details changed without your permission, the associated email is inaccessible or forgotten, or you cannot change your sign-in method. These are support cases; do not trust someone who contacts you claiming they can recover the account.
3. If 2-step verification blocks sign-in
If you still have a saved backup code, use it to sign in. PlayStation says there are 10 backup codes and each can be used once. Keep any unused codes somewhere secure. If you have neither a usable code nor access to the phone used for 2SV, contact the Online Assistant.

4. Check purchases and account activity
Once you can access the account, review PlayStation Store transaction history. Check other accounts that use the same payment method too, and see whether a charge is for a recurring subscription before treating it as unauthorized. If a charge still appears unfamiliar, follow PlayStation’s refund and support guidance. Refund eligibility depends on the current policy; a request does not guarantee a refund.
5. If your console was stolen
Use PlayStation’s compromised-account steps to sign out of PlayStation on all devices, deactivate consoles, and consider removing payment methods. If you cannot change your sign-in credentials or access the account, contact Support.

6. Reduce the chance of another account takeover
- Set a unique password for PSN and keep the linked email account protected. A passkey is another sign-in option if supported for your account.
- Never share account details. PlayStation Support’s security best practices say: “Never share your account details with anyone else.”
- Be cautious with unsolicited messages, recovery offers, and QR codes. Use PlayStation’s official support pages rather than links sent by someone you do not trust.
- Review purchase protections. PlayStation notes that Require Password at Checkout is incompatible with accounts that have passkeys set up, so check the available protections for your sign-in method.
The interface, support availability, and refund rules can vary by country. The linked instructions are for the US; use your local PlayStation Support site for the current regional recovery and refund process.
