If the .si domain you want is already registered or reserved, you cannot register that exact name as a new domain. First check Register.si’s registration guidance and registrar resources for available alternatives. A formal dispute is a separate option only if you can prove a qualifying legal right and meet the other required conditions; simply wanting the name is not enough.
Check the domain and find available alternatives
Start with Register.si’s registration guidance and registrar resources. A name that is already taken or reserved cannot be registered as a new .si domain. Availability can change, so check the status again when you are ready to register an alternative through a registrar.
When comparing alternatives, consider whether the name is easy to recognize, spell and say aloud; fits your brand and audience; and is unlikely to be confused with another name. Check availability in any other domain extensions that matter to your project. These are practical selection criteria, not a guarantee that one naming approach will perform better.
Use WHOIS for basic information
Register.si’s WHOIS service provides basic information about a domain, including its holder, technical contact and registrar. It may help you understand the domain’s status and identify the registrar, but access to additional holder data is limited. Register.si says it provides that information to third parties only for justified reasons, such as exercising legal rights or using alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and describes a substantiated request process.

Decide whether this is a naming problem or a rights dispute
A domain name is not itself an industrial property right such as a trademark. It can, however, correspond to a trademark, company name, personal name or another right. Register.si explains that such a match may matter to businesses, organizations, public bodies and individuals.
If your only reason for wanting the domain is that it is your preferred name, focus on alternatives. If you believe the registration infringes a right you hold, review the official .si alternative dispute resolution guidance and consider getting case-specific advice before filing. A dispute is not a way to claim a name solely because you prefer it.

What a .si ARDS complaint must prove
The current English ARDS Rules of Procedure are Version 5 and apply to cases initiated on or after 7 October 2025. To succeed, a complainant must establish all three of these elements:
- A qualifying right: The rules include rights such as a relevant trademark, registered company name, copyright, registered geographic designation, personal name or another right recognized under Slovenian law.
- The holder has no legitimate interest: The complainant must show that the domain holder lacks a legitimate interest in the name.
- Bad-faith registration or use: The complainant must show that the domain was registered or is being used in bad faith.
These are cumulative requirements: having a right that resembles the domain name does not, by itself, establish the other two. Read the current ARDS rules and dispute guidance before deciding whether your evidence supports a complaint.

Understand the procedure, fee and timing before filing
Register.si’s ADR guidelines and rules describe an online complaint process. A filing must identify the parties and domain, set out the grounds and supporting evidence, and include the required declarations and documents. The procedure uses Slovenian. Legal representation is not mandatory under the registry guidance, but the evidence and procedural requirements still apply. The rules do not exclude court protection.
The Version 5 fee schedule published by Register.si sets these fees, including VAT:
Rank #4
| Domains in the complaint | Single-arbiter fee | Three-arbiter panel |
|---|---|---|
| One to five | €700 | €1,400 total (the €700 fee plus a €700 supplement) |
| Six to ten | €1,200 | €2,400 total (the €1,200 fee plus an equivalent €1,200 supplement) |
| More than ten | Set by the administrator | Confirm with the administrator |
Register.si’s ADR guidelines describe the procedure as usually taking about two to three months. That is an estimate, not a guaranteed deadline. Because fees and procedure can change, confirm the current schedule and requirements with Register.si before filing.
Quick Recap
Choose your next step
- No qualifying right or evidence of bad faith: Choose an available alternative and register it through a registrar.
- Potential rights claim, but unclear facts: Review the current ARDS rules and seek case-specific advice before spending money on a complaint.
- Evidence appears to meet all three elements: Check the current filing requirements, language, fees and timetable, then decide whether to use ARDS or pursue another available legal route.
