If you ate a snack recalled for undeclared milk, stop eating it and check the recall notice to see whether your exact product and lot are affected. If you have a milk allergy, watch for symptoms and follow your allergy action plan. Trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, or loss of consciousness requires emergency help.
First, check whether the recall applies to your snack
Do not rely on the brand name alone: a recall may cover only certain flavors, package sizes, batches, or date codes. Compare the notice with the product’s name, flavor, package size, lot or batch code, best-by date, and sales area. Stop eating the snack while you check.
FDA alerts illustrate how specific the affected items can be. A February 12, 2026 notice covered selected Junebar Chocolate Cherry and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip bars with specified batch markings (FDA Junebar alert). A March 4, 2026 alert concerned select 8-ounce bags of Miss Vickie’s Spicy Dill Pickle chips that could contain jalapeño chips and undeclared milk (FDA Frito-Lay alert). These are examples, not a complete list; use the latest notice for your product.
What to do depends on allergy history and symptoms
Known milk allergy
Stop eating the snack. FDA advises people with a known food allergy who begin having symptoms to stop eating the food, evaluate whether to use emergency medication such as epinephrine, and seek medical attention (FDA: Food Allergies). Follow the person’s clinician-provided allergy action plan and use prescribed medication as directed.

- IDENTIFY WHICH FOODS MAY BE CAUSING YOUR SYMPTOMS. Food intolerances happen when your gut microbiome and digestive enzymes can’t break down a food ingredient. Although gluten and lactose are the most common issues, intolerances can happen with any food item. When these intolerances go unchecked, symptoms like headaches, gas, diarrhea, acne, and bloating may develop.
- TESTS 800 COMMON FOOD ITEMS. Our food intolerance test for adults and children covers 14 major food categories: dairy, vegetables, fruits, grains, meats, seafood, nuts, sweeteners, spices, fats, oils, mushrooms, superfoods, and preservatives.
- HOW IT WORKS. (1) Register your test kit on the 5Strands website or mobile app (2) Collect 10-15 strands of hair. (3) Send your sample to our certified lab using the included prepaid shipping materials. (4) Once your sample is received, we’ll email you the results within 4 days. After 60 days, your hair sample will be permanently disposed of.
- EASY TO READ RESULTS. Each food item is labeled as Insignificant, Mild, Moderate, or Severe to help guide your elimination plan. This gives you clear directions to begin removing severe intolerance foods, moderate your intake of mid-level triggers, and keep safe foods in rotation to support gut health, digestion, and symptom relief.
- 3RD PARTY STUDIED & DOCTOR RECOMMENDED. 5Strands is the only intolerance and sensitivity test independently validated through third-party research. Every sample is processed in our certified U.S. lab using a double-pass method for accurate results, and our testing has helped over 345,000 people and pets uncover their food intolerances and environmental sensitivities.
Food-allergy symptoms may begin within minutes to a few hours. They can include hives or rash, itching or tingling in the mouth, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, coughing, wheezing, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Throat swelling, breathing difficulty, faintness, or loss of consciousness can indicate a severe reaction: use the emergency plan and call emergency services. Do not wait for symptoms to pass or assume a reaction will remain mild because an earlier one was mild.
No known milk allergy and no symptoms
The FDA guidance does not prescribe a special treatment for an otherwise well person solely because they ate a recalled product. Stop consuming it, follow the recall notice, and watch for symptoms. Contact a health care provider if symptoms develop or you are unsure what to do.

Symptoms or uncertainty
If any symptoms develop, contact a health care provider. For severe symptoms, use the person’s emergency plan and seek emergency help rather than waiting for a routine appointment. Do not try to diagnose the reaction yourself.
Handle the remaining snack safely
Follow the specific recall notice for return or disposal instructions. FDA says recalled food can often be returned to the store for a refund; if it cannot be returned, dispose of it securely. Do not give it to another person, donate it, or feed it to a pet. Wash and sanitize surfaces, utensils, and storage areas that contacted the food, and wash your hands after cleanup (FDA: Food Recalls—What You Need to Do).

Keep details if a reaction occurred
Keep the packaging if possible. Its ingredient list, UPC, lot number, and expiration or best-by date can help identify the product. Record when it was eaten, when symptoms began, what symptoms occurred, any medication used, and whether medical care was needed. FDA advises symptomatic consumers to contact a health care provider and offers consumer channels for reporting food complaints and adverse events, including serious allergic reactions (FDA consumer updates and reporting information).
