If Carmilla’s boss fight is not triggering, return to the Library’s Planetarium and Observation Tower. Inspect the Planetarium’s Star Chart, rotate the giant armillary mechanism until every planetary node matches the constellation on the chart, use the newly opened vertical grapple route, and enter the right-hand door. The cutscene and Carmilla’s named red health bar should appear there.
Why Carmilla’s encounter does not start
Carmilla is not activated simply by reaching the Observatory area. Her encounter is gated by two linked rooms in the Library: the Planetarium, where you inspect a Star Chart, and the Observation Tower, where you solve the armillary mechanism. The documented trigger requires the complete sequence, not just arrival at the tower or a partial puzzle solution.
The most common progression mistake is rotating some of the armillary rings or nodes and then leaving before the constellation is fully matched. The available guide descriptions do not identify partial alignment as a valid trigger. Every planetary node must correspond to the pattern shown on the Star Chart.

After a correct alignment, new grapple points open a vertical route. Those points are the physical sign that the puzzle has changed the tower. Follow that route and enter the door on the right-hand side of the destination room. The cutscene should play, followed by a named Carmilla health bar at the bottom of the screen.

Exact activation sequence
Use this order if the Carmilla health bar will not appear:
- Return to the Planetarium. Locate the Star Chart and interact with it. Merely walking past the chart is not the documented prerequisite.
- Study the constellation pattern. Use the chart as the reference for the planetary positions represented by the tower’s armillary mechanism.
- Enter the Observation Tower. Rotate the giant armillary mechanism until every planetary node matches the constellation shown on the chart. Do not stop after matching only the easily visible nodes.
- Confirm that the route has opened. Look for the newly available vertical grapple points. Their appearance indicates that the tower puzzle has registered the alignment.
- Climb through the grapple passage. Use the opened vertical route rather than returning to the Planetarium or retracing the old path.
- Take the right-hand door. The documented boss entrance is the door on the right. Enter it after completing the grapple route.
- Wait for the encounter confirmation. A cutscene should begin, and Carmilla’s named red health bar should appear at the bottom of the screen.
If any one of these steps was skipped, repeat the sequence from the Star Chart. In particular, interacting with the chart first and aligning all nodes are separate requirements.
How to tell whether the puzzle registered

The health bar is the clearest confirmation. Reaching a gothic room, seeing the blood-red moon, or entering the tower by itself does not establish that the fight has started; look for the named red bar.

What the correct boss room looks like
The arena is a gothic chamber beneath a blood-red moon. Once the encounter has triggered, Carmilla’s name appears in a red health bar at the bottom of the screen. The fight also introduces visual and mechanical cues that distinguish an active battle from a failed trigger.

Floating skull protection
Carmilla can be protected by summoned floating skulls. Destroy that skull protection before expecting normal damage opportunities. The skulls are a combat mechanic, not evidence that the entrance sequence failed.
Blood pillars
Blood pillars rise through the arena and leave gaps that you must move through. Watch the available openings instead of treating the pillars as an impassable wall. Their presence confirms that the fight has progressed into its hazard pattern.
Blood curse
The encounter uses a blood-curse mechanic. Manage movement and attack timing around the curse rather than leaving the room to search for another activation switch. Carmilla resurfaces during the battle, creating the attack windows described for the encounter.
The reported encounter values are 4,500 HP and 850 XP. These figures are listed by VGTimes in 2026; they identify the documented fight but do not replace the visual trigger check. The named health bar remains the practical way to determine whether your save has entered the battle.

If Carmilla’s health bar still will not appear
When the room loads without the cutscene or named bar, work through the checks below in order. They separate a missed progression state from an unverified technical failure.
1. Recheck the Planetarium interaction
Go back to the Planetarium and interact directly with the Star Chart. Do not assume that viewing the room, reading a nearby object, or having visited the Planetarium earlier satisfies this step. The documented sequence specifically calls for inspecting the chart before solving the armillary puzzle.
2. Recheck every armillary node
Return to the Observation Tower and compare the entire mechanism with the chart. A ring that looks close, or a node that appears aligned from one camera angle, is not enough. The documented condition is a complete match for every planetary node. If the new grapple points have not appeared, treat the puzzle as incomplete and continue adjusting it.

Once the grapple points are available, climb the vertical passage they create. Returning through the old route or stopping in the puzzle chamber does not take you to the documented trigger location. The opened grapple path is part of the activation sequence.

4. Choose the correct door
At the end of that route, enter the right-hand door. If you used the new grapple route but went through another doorway, return to the room and use the right-hand entrance. The expected result is a cutscene followed by the named red health bar.
5. Distinguish a missed trigger from a battle hazard
If the cutscene has played and you can see floating skulls, blood pillars, or the blood-curse mechanic, the encounter is active even if Carmilla is temporarily out of reach. Those elements belong to the fight itself. A true trigger problem is the absence of both the cutscene and the named Carmilla health bar after the complete sequence.
What is known about bugs and platform differences
The available documentation does not establish an official Carmilla-specific bug, patch, or platform-specific workaround. That means a failure after the complete Star Chart, full alignment, grapple-route, and right-hand-door sequence remains an unverified failure rather than a confirmed known bug.

- The platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or Nintendo Switch.
- The game version or build number shown by your platform.
- The save state or story point at which the Planetarium and Observation Tower were completed.
- Whether the Star Chart was interacted with directly.
- Whether every armillary node was matched and whether the new grapple points appeared.
- Whether you used the vertical grapple passage and entered the right-hand door.
- Whether any cutscene started and whether a named Carmilla health bar appeared.
This record lets support distinguish an incomplete progression state from a reproducible software problem. No documented platform-specific bypass should be assumed when the normal sequence has not been verified.
Where Carmilla fits in the story
Carmilla is listed as a required main-story boss for access to Notre-Dame. She appears in the progression alongside Talos and Brauner, after the earlier Catacombs encounters. That placement matters when checking a save: if the preceding story route has not been completed, reaching the Library rooms does not by itself prove that the Carmilla gate is ready.
Defeating Carmilla awards The Occultist Arcana, Blood Spikes, Aerial Rush, and Brauner’s Paintbrush. These rewards are progression outcomes of a completed encounter, not items that activate the fight. The fight must first be confirmed by its cutscene and named health bar.
Platform and release context
VGTimes lists Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, with a release listing dated October 15, 2026. Use the platform name and installed build when reporting a failure, because the available trigger instructions do not claim that every platform shares the same software behavior.
If you are playing the Nintendo Switch edition, include that edition explicitly in any support report. The same applies to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S: identify the hardware and version rather than reporting only that the “Observatory door” failed.
