If you suspect an Aave V3 oracle issue, first confirm the exact chain, market, reserve, and position, then check Aave’s official updates. Don’t assume a report means your market is affected or paused. If your health factor is at risk, Aave identifies supplying collateral or repaying debt as ways to improve it; neither action fixes the oracle itself.
First, verify whether your position is affected
- Identify the deployment. Confirm the chain and Aave V3 market, then note the collateral asset, borrowed asset, and relevant reserves. Oracle sources and reserve settings can differ between markets, including for the same underlying token.
- Check the position and health factor. Use the Aave interface or a reliable view of the same on-chain position. Confirm that you are looking at the correct account and market. Prices and accrued debt can change the displayed health factor, so a worrying number, stale display, or unconfirmed report alone does not prove an oracle failure.
- Look for an official update naming your market or asset. Check Aave’s official incident and governance communications for an acknowledgement, affected assets, oracle-source changes, or a pause. A report that an oracle is unhealthy does not by itself establish that a reserve has been paused.
Aave says it relies on third-party oracles for prices and other external data in its risk documentation. Its V3 markets can use different configured sources, so confirm the specific deployment rather than extrapolating from another chain or reserve.
What the health factor tells you
Aave defines health factor as:
Health Factor = (Total Collateral Value × Weighted Average Liquidation Threshold) / Total Borrow Value
The factor combines collateral value, the liquidation thresholds of that collateral, and the value of outstanding debt. Aave’s V3 overview says positions become eligible for liquidation when the health factor falls below 1. That is a threshold for eligibility, not a prediction of when or whether a liquidator will act. Under Aave’s documented mechanics, external liquidators can repay part of eligible debt and receive collateral with a liquidation bonus; the available action and parameters depend on the deployment and protocol state.

If a suspected price-feed problem makes the displayed factor seem wrong, don’t treat either the display or a third-party report as proof of the true market state. Confirm the position and seek an official update for the affected deployment while considering whether you can safely reduce exposure.
Actions a borrower can take
A borrower cannot change Aave’s oracle source. If it is appropriate for your position, the borrower actions Aave identifies for improving health factor are supplying collateral and repaying some debt. Compare them based on which token and amount you can provide, transaction fees and approvals, available market liquidity, and the price exposure you are willing to keep.

- Supply collateral: Adding eligible collateral can raise the health factor. Check that the asset is accepted in the correct market and that you can complete any required token approval and supply transaction.
- Repay debt: Repaying borrowed assets can lower the debt side of the calculation. Check the debt token, repayment amount, available balance, and transaction details before signing.
Review any health-factor preview available in the interface, but treat it as an estimate rather than a guarantee: prices and accrued debt can change, and a transaction has to be confirmed on-chain. Aave’s borrower help discusses these actions and names DeFi Simulator for simulating health-factor changes and DeFi Saver for auto-repay. These are optional tools, not oracle fixes or guarantees against liquidation; verify their current features and assess their risks independently.
Does PriceOracleSentinel stop liquidation during an oracle issue?
Not necessarily. Aave’s oracle documentation says the PriceOracleSentinel checks whether operations are allowed based on PriceOracle health. Its documented protections can disallow borrowing and liquidation during downtime and for a configured grace period after recovery. Aave describes the feature as designed particularly for L2 sequencer downtime, while noting it could be extended to other cases.

That scope is conditional: do not assume the Sentinel is enabled or configured identically in every market, or that it blocks liquidation for every kind of price-feed fault. Check the particular deployment and its current state. A temporary restriction also does not fix an incorrect price or remove the need to monitor the position.
Who can address the oracle or pause a reserve?
Oracle-source changes and emergency pool or reserve pauses are protocol-level actions handled through authorized Aave roles, not ordinary borrower controls. Aave’s role documentation describes capabilities for administrators to update oracle sources, adjust certain risk parameters, and pause or unpause a pool or reserve. Those documented powers do not show that an administrator has acted in a particular case. Look for an official update confirming any source change or pause rather than inferring one from a report.

Keep monitoring as the situation develops
After checking your position and any official notice, continue watching both. A source change, recovery from downtime, or the end of a Sentinel grace period can affect which operations are allowed; price movements and accrued debt can also change your health factor. Recheck the correct market and account after relevant updates, and do not assume an earlier restriction remains in effect.
