Check the retailer’s app or order page first: it should show the order status, updated estimate, and any choices available for your specific delivery. Follow the instructions in the retailer’s notice or applicable terms. Options vary by provider, order, address, weather, and whether the items qualify for drone delivery.
What to do when a drone delivery is delayed
- Open the order page. Check the latest status, estimated arrival window, and any notification from the retailer.
- Read the notice before choosing. For Walmart drone orders, a delay may prompt a text or push notification offering cancellation or a switch to pickup. If you choose pickup, Walmart says applicable drone delivery fees are refunded. Walmart’s drone delivery help page
- Contact the retailer if the order is not completed. Keep the order number and delay notice handy. Ask separately about the delivery fee and the products, since fee refunds and product refunds or replacements may follow different processes.
An estimated delivery window is not always a guarantee. Walmart’s Drone Delivery Terms of Use, last updated February 25, 2025, says its timeframes are performance goals rather than service-level guarantees, and that a delivery may be canceled if it cannot be completed in compliance with applicable rules and terms. What to do if the order is canceled
Check the order page to confirm what was canceled: the products, the drone delivery, or both. The available remedy depends on the retailer’s notice and terms; there is no single refund timeline or cancellation process established across drone-delivery services.
For Walmart orders
If a Walmart drone order was not received or delivery was not completed, Walmart’s terms direct customers to call 1-800-WALMART to inquire about a refund of drone delivery fees. For other providers
Use the customer-service route for the company that handled the order. Amazon says Prime Air orders use the Amazon shopping experience and existing customer service, returns, and A-to-z Guarantee. What to do when drone delivery is unavailable
If the drone option does not appear, choose another fulfillment option shown in the retailer’s app, such as pickup or standard delivery where offered. Drone eligibility can depend on the exact address, local weather, operational feasibility, eligible order contents, and the delivery vendor’s terms. Why a drone order might change or stop
Weather and operating feasibility can affect availability, but they are possible causes, not a diagnosis of a particular delay. Prime Air also says it may change a drop point if it detects a ground hazard. Follow the directions in the retailer’s notice; do not approach, touch, obstruct, or interfere with a drone or its delivery area. - Use the retailer or provider’s stated support channel and follow any pickup or redelivery instructions in the notice.
Provider policies differ, and the cited guidance is U.S.-centered, particularly for Walmart and FAA material. The FAA describes commercial package delivery by drone under air-carrier and Part 135 frameworks; regulatory and operating constraints may apply, but the customer’s immediate remedy comes from the retailer or delivery provider.
