Before authorizing a game-statistics or progress-tracking app, verify who operates it, confirm that the game publisher permits its access method, start sign-in on the platform’s genuine authorization page, inspect every permission, read the app’s privacy policy, and find the account’s revoke or unlink control. An approved sign-in can avoid sharing your password, but it does not automatically make the app safe, privacy-preserving, or compliant with game rules.
What happens when you connect a tracker
A tracking app may use an official authorization system to receive a limited token for account or game information. Riot Games describes its RSO service this way: “RSO utilizes OAuth2 for authentication which lets players authorize third parties to obtain access to their account or game information without the player having to share their password.” The important qualification is that this describes RSO/OAuth2; you must evaluate the actual sign-in flow shown for your game.
A token-based connection is different from handing the tracker your game password. The platform can identify the app, display the requested data, and provide a way to withdraw access. However, a token can still expose sensitive account or gameplay information, and the app may copy data while access is active. Revoking a token normally stops future access; it is not a universal promise that data already collected by the tracker has been erased.

Use this pre-authorization checklist
1. Identify the developer and the exact purpose
Confirm the company or individual operating the tracker, its official website or store listing, and the feature that supposedly needs account data. A stat page may need match history, while an achievement tool may need completion information. Be cautious when the operator is hard to identify, the app does not explain its purpose, or the requested access appears broader than the feature requires. This is a practical risk check, not a universal permission rule: platforms display different scopes and publishers define different data categories.

- Record the developer name and support contact before approving.
- Check whether the app explains which games and regions it supports.
- Prefer a connection that begins in the game or platform’s normal account flow rather than an unexpected form asking for credentials.
2. Start on the genuine platform authorization page
Begin the connection from the tracker, then verify that the next step is the game or platform’s official sign-in and consent screen. Riot’s RSO process redirects a player to sign in and authorize a third party through OAuth2. The third party receives an authorization token instead of the player’s password.
Never type your game password into an unrelated page, send it to the tracker operator, or reuse that password elsewhere. Check the browser address, the platform branding, and whether the page clearly identifies the application requesting access. If the flow asks you to download an untrusted executable or disable security software before authorization, stop and investigate separately.
3. Read every permission on the consent screen
Do not approve a request merely because the app has a familiar name. Note each category of information, whether the permission is optional, and whether the screen identifies the application and publisher. Epic Games explains that a product or service can use an Epic account to verify identity, while access to other information requires explicit consent. Epic also says it does not share passwords or payment details with third-party products through this sign-in.

PlayStation gives online status and gameplay information as examples of data that may be shared with authorized apps. Those examples do not describe every PlayStation app, another platform, or every tracker. Treat the consent screen in front of you as the controlling list.
- Ask whether the requested data is necessary for the advertised feature.
- Look for scopes involving profile identity, friends, online status, gameplay history, achievements, messages, or other account activity.
- Decline when the app requests information that has no clear connection to its function.
- Capture or note the permissions so you can compare them with the privacy policy and later revoke the correct connection.
4. Check the game’s third-party software rules
A legitimate account login does not make every use of the resulting data permissible. Riot says third-party applications can provide useful functions such as stat tracking, but software must not undermine competitive play or violate the game’s terms. Its support guidance states: “No software should compromise game integrity or negatively impact the in-game player experience, from the moment you press “Play” until you log off.”
Riot says applications built with and approved through its official API should rarely cause issues. It warns that an unauthorized application interacting with the game in a harmful way can flag an account for suspicious behavior. A tracker that only reads permitted account data through an official link presents a different risk from a tool that injects code, automates play, alters the client, or reads protected game memory.

Riot’s policy context is specific to Riot games. A February 10, 2025 support announcement said the company moved remaining third-party applications to official API access and prevented game-memory access as a game-integrity and security measure. Do not apply that decision to another publisher. Check the current rules, developer policy, or support guidance for the particular game, especially after an update.
5. Read the tracker’s privacy policy before consenting
The third party may handle information under its own policy rather than the game publisher’s policy. Riot’s privacy notice warns that external services can collect and process personal information under their own terms and that Riot cannot guarantee those practices. It also explains that users can limit integration disclosures by declining links or disabling them through account settings.
Look for clear answers to these questions:
- What is collected? Check whether the policy covers only game statistics or also identifiers, contacts, device information, location, telemetry, or advertising data.
- Why is it used? Distinguish core tracking from analytics, personalization, marketing, fraud prevention, or resale.
- Who receives it? Look for processors, advertisers, analytics providers, public profiles, and other companies.
- How long is it retained? A policy should describe retention periods or the criteria used to set them.
- How can you delete it? Find an account-deletion process and a privacy contact. Determine whether deletion removes public pages, backups, and historical matches or only disables the account.
If the policy is missing, materially vague, or reserves unlimited sharing and retention, do not authorize access merely because the tracker is convenient.

6. Find the off switch before you approve
Locate the platform’s authorized-apps or integrations control in a separate browser tab. Knowing the path in advance matters if the app behaves unexpectedly or you later change your mind. Platform labels and locations can change, so use the current support instructions for your region and device.
- PlayStation: the US support guidance provides an Authorized Apps list in Account Management and explains how to view and unlink apps, with instructions for the web account, PS5, PS4, and PlayStation App.
- Epic Games: its account guidance says access granted to a product or service can be revoked. Use the current account controls to identify the connected service and remove its authorization.
- Riot: its privacy guidance says integrations can be disabled through account settings. The exact menu name may differ as account pages change.
Unlinking addresses the platform connection. Separately review the tracker’s retention and deletion terms and submit a deletion request if you want copies already collected removed. The platform guidance establishes revocation or unlinking controls, not a universal deletion guarantee for third-party databases.

How to compare two tracking apps
Compare the actual consent screens and policies rather than relying on a claim that an app is “safe” or “official.” Use the same questions for each candidate:

Warning signs that justify stopping
- The app asks for your game password instead of redirecting to the platform’s sign-in page.
- The consent screen names a different developer or an unfamiliar application.
- Permissions include account areas unrelated to the stated tracking feature.
- The tracker requires game-memory access, code injection, automation, or client modification without clear publisher approval.
- The privacy policy is unavailable, recently changed without explanation, or silent about retention and deletion.
- You cannot find a platform control to view or revoke the connection.
- Support pressures you to bypass a warning, disable security tools, or install an unofficial client.
A warning sign is not proof of malicious activity, but it is a reason to stop authorization and verify the app through the publisher’s current documentation or support channel.
What to do if you already connected an app
- Open the platform’s authorized-app or integration settings and identify the tracker.
- Revoke or unlink it using the platform control. If you cannot find the setting, use the platform’s current account-support instructions rather than signing in through a link supplied by the tracker.
- Change your game password immediately if you ever entered it into the tracker or sent it to an operator. Use a unique password and enable available multifactor protection.
- Review the tracker’s privacy policy for account deletion and retention, then submit a request through its stated privacy contact if you want previously collected data removed.
- Check the game account for unfamiliar profile changes, linked services, sessions, or security notices. Report suspicious activity to the platform or publisher.
Revocation prevents the authorized connection from continuing, but it does not by itself establish that historical copies, exports, backups, or public statistics have been deleted. Treat those as separate privacy questions.
Practical decision rule
Authorize a tracker only when all five conditions are satisfied: the operator is identifiable; the connection uses the platform’s genuine authorization flow; each requested permission is necessary and understood; the game publisher’s rules allow the app’s behavior; and the privacy policy plus revoke and deletion paths are acceptable to you. If any condition fails, decline and look for a narrower or officially supported option.
