1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBefore buying cryptocurrency to send money, verify the entire route from the sender’s local currency to money the recipient can actually use. Compare the sender’s total cost with the recipient’s net payout, confirm the asset and network work at every step, and check the provider, redemption options, custody arrangements, and local rules. “Stable,” “fast,” and “low-cost” do not describe the whole transfer.
Start with the exact route and payout
There is no meaningful way to assess a remittance cryptocurrency without knowing where the money starts, where it needs to arrive, and what the recipient needs to receive. Provider eligibility, applicable rules, and cash-out options depend on the countries and services involved.
- Record the sender’s country, the recipient’s country, the amount and currency the recipient needs, and the intended payout method: cash, bank deposit, or another supported form.
- Identify the specific services involved in buying, transferring, converting, and paying out the funds. A token being available to buy does not establish that it can be redeemed or paid out on the recipient’s side.
- Decide what counts as successful delivery: for example, the recipient receiving a specified amount in local currency, not simply a transfer showing as complete in an app.
Without a named corridor, asset, provider, and payout method, no particular service can be confirmed as available or suitable.
Calculate what the recipient will actually receive
Compare the complete transaction, not a headline fee or an advertised exchange rate. For the same sender outlay, find the recipient’s expected net amount in the required currency after every disclosed charge and conversion.

- Genuine Check: confirm your signer is authentic during setup with the Ledger Wallet app.
- Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.
- Include the purchase price and any exchange-rate spread, transaction or withdrawal fees, blockchain network charges, intermediary charges disclosed by the provider, and the final conversion or cash-out cost.
- Check whether the quoted rate is guaranteed, how long it remains valid, and whether fees or payout deductions can change before completion.
- Ask when the recipient can use the money, not just when a crypto transfer may be confirmed. Conversion, compliance checks, bank processing, and cash-out availability can affect the usable-payout time.
Official sources reviewed for this topic do not establish current prices, fees, or delivery times for a specific route. Those figures need to come from current provider quotes for the actual transaction, not from a generic claim that cryptocurrency is cheaper or faster.
Check the stablecoin, issuer, and redemption path
If the transfer uses a stablecoin, find out what it is designed to track, who issues it, and how it can be redeemed. A token’s name or “stablecoin” label does not establish that it can be exchanged one-for-one for cash when the recipient needs it.

- Read the issuer’s reserve disclosures: what assets back the token, how often information is published, and whether the disclosures have independent assurance.
- Check who is eligible to redeem directly, the applicable minimums or limits, and whether the recipient must use an intermediary to convert the token into local currency.
- Follow the full redemption route, including any account, identity, country, or banking requirements that could prevent the intended recipient from accessing the funds.
A U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Division of Corporation Finance staff statement dated April 4, 2025 describes reserve assets, one-for-one redemption, and payment use for a particular class of covered stablecoins in specified circumstances. It is not a general assurance about every token marketed as a stablecoin, nor proof that a particular remittance route offers direct redemption.
Verify the provider and the rules in both countries
Check the legal entity that will actually provide each service, rather than relying on a brand name or a broad “regulated” claim. The entity and its permissions may differ between buying, transferring, custody, conversion, and payout.

- Find the provider’s full legal name and the entity responsible for the service in the sender’s country and recipient’s country.
- Check the relevant local authority’s current register or other official information to confirm the entity’s status and whether its permissions cover the service and route in question.
- Read the provider’s terms for identity checks, beneficiary information, limits, restricted countries, holds, and payout conditions.
- Ask how the provider handles complaints, failed transfers, mistaken details, freezes, and disputes, and what evidence or deadlines apply.
The Financial Action Task Force’s July 16, 2026 update reports continuing gaps in turning risk assessments into effective mitigation, putting licensing and registration frameworks into practice, identifying virtual-asset service providers, and carrying out risk-based supervision and enforcement. Its 2026 implementation snapshot says 83% of surveyed jurisdictions had passed legislation implementing the Travel Rule, up from 73% in 2025. These are global implementation figures, not confirmation that a particular provider is authorized or that a specific country’s rules protect a specific customer.
For U.S. payment stablecoins, SEC staff FAQs describe GENIUS Act provisions as taking effect on the earlier of January 18, 2027, or 120 days after federal banking regulators issue implementing regulations. As of October 4, 2026, that date is still in the future, and the earlier-trigger condition means the effective date should be checked against current official information. Do not treat provisions described as applying after effectiveness as already in force.

Match the asset, network, and recipient instructions exactly
A token with the same or similar name can exist on different networks. Before sending, confirm that the sending service and the recipient’s service support the same asset on the same network, and that the recipient can convert or cash out that exact transfer.
- Use the destination address and network specified by the receiving service; do not choose a network based only on a lower displayed fee.
- Check whether the recipient must provide a memo, tag, reference, or other identifier in addition to the address.
- Confirm the minimum deposit, supported network, and any restrictions directly with the recipient’s service before transferring.
- Check what happens if a transfer is sent on an unsupported network or with a missing identifier. Do not assume the provider can recover it.
FATF materials identify risks involving stablecoins and peer-to-peer transfers, but they do not validate a particular token, address, network, or provider.

Understand who controls the funds and how recovery works
Find out whether the provider holds the crypto on the customer’s behalf or whether the customer controls the wallet keys. Then check what account recovery is possible if a phone, credentials, or access to a wallet are lost.
- For a provider-held account, review account recovery, withdrawal holds, support availability, and what the terms say about access to assets if the provider suspends service.
- For a wallet controlled by the user, understand how keys and recovery information are stored, who can access them, and what happens if they are lost or exposed.
- Confirm which party can investigate a failed transfer and what information the sender or recipient must retain.
FATF’s 2026 update identifies peer-to-peer transactions through unhosted wallets as an area of risk. That is a reason to assess the custody and recovery arrangement carefully, not proof that self-custody is always better or that a hardware wallet is required.
Compare against another way to send the same amount
Compare the crypto route with available alternatives using the same sender outlay, recipient currency, and payout conditions. FATF notes that virtual assets can make payments easier, faster, and cheaper as a possible sector-level benefit; that does not establish the result for any one corridor.
| Comparison point | What to establish for each route |
|---|---|
| Total sender outlay | The full amount paid, including purchase, transfer, conversion, and disclosed intermediary charges. |
| Recipient’s net amount | The amount available in the currency and form the recipient needs after conversion and cash-out. |
| Usable-payout time | When the recipient can access the money, accounting for checks, conversion, and payout processing. |
| Compatibility | Whether the asset and network are supported at every service in the route. |
| Authorization and restrictions | The responsible legal entity, its relevant status in each jurisdiction, and any route or customer limits. |
| Access and recovery | Who holds the funds or controls the keys, and what support or recovery process applies if something goes wrong. |
Use current quotes and terms for the specific transaction. If a provider will not show the net payout or explain the conversion and cash-out steps, you do not have enough information for a fair comparison.
