Teardown screenshots reported by TechSpot identify it more specifically as NVIDIA Tegra T239, with an Ampere-based GPU containing 12 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) and 1,536 CUDA cores. Those chip details are teardown-derived—not figures Nintendo has published as official specifications.
What chip is in Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo’s official specification calls the Switch 2’s CPU/GPU a “Custom processor made by NVIDIA.” It does not name a model or give CPU and GPU core counts. In an April 24, 2025 report, TechSpot said teardown screenshots identified the processor package as an NVIDIA Tegra T239. That identification is useful evidence, but it is not a chip disclosure from Nintendo or NVIDIA.

Nintendo has said the system has significantly improved CPU and GPU performance compared with the original Switch. In its April 2, 2025 launch announcement, the company said the improvements enable faster processing, more detailed graphics and faster loading, without publishing benchmark results or a detailed processor specification.
What did the Switch 2 die shot reveal?
TechSpot attributed the detailed chip identification to teardown screenshots published by a hardware modder. Its April 24, 2025 report described an Arm CPU configuration and a custom Ampere GPU. These are reported teardown findings, not Nintendo-confirmed specifications.

| Manufacturing process | Not confirmed by the cited teardown reporting; claims of a specific process node are disputed | Nintendo does not state a process node |
How many CUDA cores does Switch 2 have?
The reported figure is 1,536 CUDA cores, arranged in 12 SMs, according to TechSpot’s April 24, 2025 teardown report. Nintendo has not published that number, so it should be described as a teardown-derived specification rather than an official figure.
The die shot helps support the reported design identification and shows how the processor is partitioned. It does not, by itself, establish every system-level detail—such as clock speeds, memory capacity or timings—or replace an official package disclosure. Nintendo technical director Tetsuya Sasaki explained the company’s approach by saying, “Nintendo doesn’t share too much on the hardware spec,” adding that the focus is “the value we can provide to our consumers,” in a statement reported by TechSpot.
Does Switch 2 support DLSS and ray tracing?
Yes. Nintendo developer Takuhiro Dohta confirmed DLSS upscaling and hardware ray-tracing capability, as reported by Tom’s Hardware. Their availability as practical features depends on the game: software developers decide whether and how to use the hardware.

- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
Dohta also described 4K output as an option, with the game’s developer choosing whether to render at native resolution or use upscaling. Therefore, the presence of DLSS does not mean every game renders natively at 4K, or that every game uses DLSS.
Is the Switch 2 chip 8nm or 5nm?
The cited teardown reporting does not establish a settled manufacturing process node. TechSpot described the process node as unconfirmed, and node claims have been disputed. Without a reliable confirmation from Nintendo, NVIDIA or the cited teardown evidence, it is not accurate to state that the Switch 2 chip is either 8nm or 5nm.
How much RAM and storage does Switch 2 have?
Nintendo’s public specification page lists 256GB of UFS internal storage. It does not state the system’s RAM capacity. TechSpot reported SK Hynix memory in the teardown but said the exact memory configuration was not confirmed, so the die-shot report does not establish an official RAM figure.

Nintendo’s official specifications and launch announcement give the clearest published context for what the processor supports at the system level. These figures are separate from the teardown-derived T239 and core-count claims.

| Backward compatibility | Compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games can run on Switch 2, though Nintendo says some titles may not be fully supported |
Nintendo announced a June 5, 2025 launch and said compatible Switch games would be supported, with possible exceptions. Its April 2, 2025 release also described TV output up to 4K. The output modes above are the more specific limits in Nintendo’s published specifications.
What the die shot cannot tell you about repairability
A processor image and package identification are not repair documentation. In its June 6, 2025 teardown, iFixit reported that Nintendo had not released Switch 2 repair parts or manuals as of that date. The die-shot evidence therefore does not establish that consumers can obtain replacement components or service instructions.
