Final Fantasy VII Remake save data does not transfer your normal progression into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Your level, weapons, armor, materia inventory, items, abilities, gil, story flags, and completed quests do not carry over. Instead, Rebirth checks for qualifying save files and unlocks fixed bonuses: Leviathan Summoning Materia from a Remake save and Ramuh Summoning Materia from a PS5 EPISODE INTERmission save.
The short answer: bonuses transfer, not your character build
Rebirth starts as a separate game. It does not read your Remake campaign as a continuation file and reconstruct Cloud’s previous equipment, statistics, inventory, or quest history. The official PlayStation guide describes the rule directly: “save files from FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will not transfer over to Rebirth.”
What the save file does provide is eligibility for a small, predefined reward. Rebirth looks for qualifying data on the system, then unlocks the appropriate bonus item. This is save-data recognition rather than save-data transfer. You keep the bonus, but you do not keep the build that produced it.
Exactly what each type of save unlocks
The reward depends on which game produced the save and, for EPISODE INTERmission, the platform on which that data exists.

A Remake save and an INTERmission save can therefore unlock two different summon materia. Having both does not import any additional levels, weapons, armor, consumables, or story progress.
Leviathan Summoning Materia from Remake
A Final Fantasy VII Remake save from PS4 or PS5 unlocks Leviathan Summoning Materia in Rebirth. The documented requirement is the presence of qualifying Remake save data; the published support information does not attach a separate completion percentage, difficulty, trophy, or quest requirement to this reward.
Ramuh Summoning Materia from EPISODE INTERmission
A PS5 save for Final Fantasy VII Remake EPISODE INTERmission unlocks Ramuh Summoning Materia. This is a distinct check from the ordinary Remake save check. The requirement is specifically the PS5 INTERmission data, not merely any Remake file.

Rebirth does not treat Remake as a New Game Plus source. The following categories remain separate and must be earned again within Rebirth:
- Cloud’s level, experience, statistics, and learned progression.
- Weapons, armor, accessories, and weapon-upgrade state.
- Materia inventory, materia levels, equipped combinations, and other build choices.
- Items, consumables, gil, crafting supplies, and other inventory contents.
- Abilities and combat upgrades acquired during Remake.
- Story flags, chapter position, completed side quests, quest rewards, and campaign decisions.
- Any other ordinary character or campaign progression from the Remake save.
In practical terms, even a fully completed Remake file gives you the same kind of Rebirth start as any other new game, apart from the fixed bonus checks. Finishing every side quest or obtaining a complete inventory does not create a stronger import.

Do you need to finish Remake?
Nothing in the official reward descriptions says that you must finish Remake, reach a particular chapter, clear a specific difficulty, earn trophies, or complete a target number of side quests. The documented condition is that qualifying save data exists for the relevant source game.
That means a player who has an eligible Remake save should use the bonus check even if the Remake campaign is incomplete. Because the published instructions do not define a completion threshold, it would be incorrect to promise a different reward for a clear file, a hard-mode file, or a save with more completed quests.

How Rebirth detects the save and grants the bonus
Square Enix’s support instructions describe two ways to start the check. Rebirth can perform it when you select NEW GAME, and you can also start it manually from the title menu’s BONUSES option.
- Start Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the PS5 system.
- At the title screen, choose NEW GAME if you are beginning a campaign, or open BONUSES to run the check separately.
- Allow the game to inspect the available save data when prompted.
- Keep the qualifying Remake or INTERmission data on the PS5 system while the check runs.
- Confirm the resulting unlock. A Remake save should produce Leviathan Summoning Materia; a PS5 EPISODE INTERmission save should produce Ramuh Summoning Materia.
The bonus check is not an import wizard. It does not ask you to select a chapter, copy a party setup, or choose which equipment to bring forward because those systems are not transferred.
Save location and platform requirements
For the original reward flow, the relevant save must be available on the PS5 system where Rebirth performs its check. This is important if the file is only in cloud storage, belongs to a different user profile, or was created on another platform.

If your Remake save is on PS4
PS4 or PS5 Remake data qualifies for the Leviathan reward, but Rebirth still needs to be able to see the qualifying file through the supported PS5 save-data check. If you moved to a new PS5, verify that the save has been transferred or downloaded to that console rather than existing only on the old machine.
If your INTERmission save is involved
The documented Ramuh reward is tied to a PS5 EPISODE INTERmission save. A Remake save by itself does not substitute for INTERmission data, and an INTERmission save from an unsupported platform will not satisfy the stated PS5 condition.
If the file is cloud-only
Download the save to the PS5 system before running the check. A cloud-only file that is not present in the console’s local save storage may not be available to the title-screen detection process. After downloading, close and restart Rebirth if necessary, then run BONUSES again.
Troubleshooting a missing bonus
The bonus menu finds no data
- Confirm that you are using the same PlayStation user profile that owns or created the save.
- Check the PS5’s saved-data storage and make sure the Remake or INTERmission file is downloaded locally.
- Verify that the file is from Final Fantasy VII Remake or PS5 EPISODE INTERmission, not another title or a demo-only save.
- Return to the title screen and run the check from BONUSES rather than assuming that simply launching the game will detect it.
- Restart Rebirth after transferring or downloading the file, then repeat the check.
You expected levels or equipment to appear
That result is normal. The feature is not designed to import levels, materia stock, weapons, armor, abilities, gil, items, or quest state. The only Remake-related changes are the fixed summon-materia rewards listed above.
You have a completed Remake file but no extra reward
Completion status is not documented as a separate reward tier. First resolve the storage, platform, and user-profile checks. If the file is qualifying and visible but the bonus still does not appear, use the game’s manual title-screen check and consult the current Square Enix support instructions for account or system-specific issues.

Do Remake trophies, difficulty, or side quests change the reward?
No published reward table identifies different Rebirth benefits for trophy status, difficulty, completion percentage, number of completed side quests, or whether a Remake file is a clear save. The documented mapping is binary at the source-save level: a qualifying Remake save unlocks Leviathan, and a qualifying PS5 INTERmission save unlocks Ramuh.
Do not spend time replaying Remake solely to raise a completion percentage for this purpose. Unless Square Enix publishes a later change, the available instructions provide no evidence that those statistics alter the reward.
Do not confuse Remake bonuses with the Rebirth demo
The Rebirth demo uses a separate save-data path. A qualifying demo save can grant the Kupo Charm and Survival Set, and the demo supports its own continuation or transfer behavior. Those benefits are independent of the Remake and INTERmission checks.
Square Enix’s support wording is explicit about the limitation: “You cannot carry over your levels or items from the demo.” The demo may establish eligibility for its own bonuses or continuation state, but it is not a way to bring a demo inventory or character level into the full game.

Common player situations
“I played Remake but deleted it.”
Deleting the installed game is not the same as deleting its save data. If the qualifying save remains on the PS5 system, Rebirth can still use it for the bonus check. If the save was also deleted, restore it to the console through the supported PS5 saved-data process before checking.

“I played Remake on a different PS5.”
Move or download the qualifying save to the PS5 that runs Rebirth, then use BONUSES. The key issue is where the save is available at detection time, not which console originally hosted the Remake playthrough.
“I own Remake, but I never played INTERmission.”
You can still qualify for Leviathan if a Remake save exists. Ramuh requires the separate PS5 EPISODE INTERmission save described in the support documentation.
“I only have a Rebirth demo save.”
Use the demo’s own continuation or bonus instructions. It can provide the Kupo Charm and Survival Set, but it will not supply Remake’s Leviathan or INTERmission’s Ramuh, and it will not transfer demo levels or items as ordinary progression.

- Keep the Remake save on the PS5 system that will run Rebirth.
- If you want Ramuh, also keep a PS5 EPISODE INTERmission save locally.
- Use the same PlayStation profile associated with the saved data.
- At Rebirth’s title screen, run BONUSES or accept the check after selecting NEW GAME.
- Look for the fixed summon-materia unlocks rather than expecting your old level, inventory, or quest state.
- If you played the demo, handle its Kupo Charm and Survival Set eligibility through the separate demo path.
What to expect when you start Rebirth
Once the checks are complete, begin Rebirth with the normal game progression and use the unlocked materia or items when the game makes them available. Your Remake campaign remains intact as its own save; Rebirth does not overwrite it by converting it into a new character file.
The useful distinction is simple: Rebirth recognizes qualifying prior data to award a few fixed bonuses, but it does not continue the numerical or narrative state of Remake. Preserve the save if you want the bonuses, run the title-screen check, and plan to rebuild your equipment, materia setup, levels, inventory, and quest progress inside Rebirth.
