Samsung’s July 2024 announcement means it completed validation of a 16GB LPDDR5X memory package operating at up to 10.7Gbps with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 system-on-chip. It confirms that this memory configuration was verified for use with the mobile platform—not that a named retail phone shipped with it, or that every Dimensity 9400 device uses the package.
What Samsung validated
On July 16, 2024, Samsung said it had completed verification of its LPDDR5X DRAM at up to 10.7Gbps with MediaTek’s then-upcoming Dimensity 9400. The companies said their verification work took three months. Samsung’s announcement identifies the tested memory as a 16GB package. Samsung’s validation announcement

The two figures describe different things: 10.7Gbps is the stated operating data rate, while 16GB is the package’s capacity. Samsung’s LPDDR5X product page describes the technology as mobile DRAM and lists speeds up to 10.7Gbps.
What it could mean for phones
Faster memory can help a mobile platform move data for demanding workloads, including on-device AI. Samsung said the technology could support better AI capabilities and longer battery life, and cited voice-to-text generation without server or cloud access as an example. Those are the company’s stated potential benefits; the announcement does not provide phone-level tests showing how much faster an app would run or how much battery life a finished device would gain.

Samsung also claimed more than 25% improvement in both power consumption and performance compared with the previous generation. The announcement does not describe an independent benchmark protocol or provide device-level measurements, so that comparison should be understood as Samsung’s claim rather than a guaranteed result for a particular phone.
Why the validation is not a phone launch
Validation establishes that the named memory package was verified with the Dimensity 9400 platform. It does not identify a consumer phone model, confirm the configuration in every device built around the SoC, or give a retail launch date for a phone using it. The memory is a component integrated into a mobile platform, not a user-installable module or a consumer replacement part identified in these announcements.
Samsung’s vice president of memory product planning, YongCheol Bae, described it as the “industry’s fastest LPDDR5X DRAM” in the company’s July 2024 announcement. That is a time-bounded company claim from the announcement, not a statement about the fastest memory available today.

In an earlier announcement on April 17, 2024, Samsung said it had developed LPDDR5X supporting speeds up to 10.7Gbps, with single-package capacity up to 32GB. It said mass production was scheduled to begin in the second half of 2024 after verification with mobile application processor and device providers. Samsung’s April development announcement
The 32GB figure describes the capacity Samsung said the product line could support; the July platform verification specifically names a 16GB package. The two capacities should not be conflated.
