Prologue to Tau does not have a separately itemized completion reward in Digital Extremes’ published information as of October 19, 2026. It is a permanent, replayable Codex story prologue. Its practical payoff is story progression and access to the prologue content, not a weapon, blueprint, cosmetic, currency, or Moonflesh exchange item.
What the official information confirms
Digital Extremes added the Tau prologue chapters to Warframe’s Codex on October 15, 2026. The October 15 patch notes describe these chapters as a permanent addition to the Main Story and state that they are replayable. That wording establishes the quest’s lasting availability, but it does not identify a separate completion item.
The published patch notes and the official Epoch Operation: Taubound announcement do not name a weapon, blueprint, cosmetic, currency, resource, or other item granted when Prologue to Tau is completed. They also do not provide a numerical reward amount, a one-time grant, or a completion bundle. The safest and most accurate answer is therefore that no itemized quest reward has been published.
This is different from saying that the quest has no purpose. Prologue to Tau is a narrative chapter in the Main Story. Completing it advances the story experience and gives you access to the prologue itself, which remains available for replay through the Codex.

How to unlock Prologue to Tau
The Tau Prologue Series appears in the Codex only after both required quests are complete. There are no other prerequisites identified in the cited official material.
1. Complete The Hex
Finish The Hex on your account. Until that requirement is met, the Tau prologue series will not become available through the Codex.
2. Complete The Old Peace
Finish The Old Peace as well. Both The Hex and The Old Peace are required; completing only one of them is not enough for the prologue to appear.

3. Open the Codex
After the two prerequisites are complete, check the Warframe Codex for the Tau Prologue Series. The official description treats this as a permanent Codex addition rather than a temporary event node.
4. Start or replay the chapters
Because the chapters are replayable, you can return to them after the initial completion. Replayability is a property of the story content, not evidence of a repeatable item grant. The published information does not say that replaying the chapters awards additional currency, resources, or equipment.
What you actually receive for completion
Story progression
The confirmed benefit is narrative: Prologue to Tau is part of Warframe’s Main Story. Completing it lets you experience that prologue chapter after meeting its two quest requirements. This is the meaningful progression attached to the quest in the official descriptions.

No published item bundle
There is currently no official item list to claim at the end of the quest. In particular, the cited sources do not establish a completion weapon, blueprint, cosmetic, premium currency grant, ordinary resource payout, or other named item. Guides that present a specific item as the guaranteed Prologue to Tau reward are making a claim not supported by those official notices.
Prologue to Tau versus Epoch Operation: Taubound
The two pieces of content were announced together, which makes it easy to assume that their rewards are connected. Digital Extremes explicitly separates them. The operation announcement says the Tau prologue is not related to the rewards or dialogues found in Epoch Operation: Taubound.

| Feature | Prologue to Tau | Epoch Operation: Taubound |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Main Story narrative prologue | Limited-time community operation |
| Availability | Permanent Codex addition; replayable | Time-limited operation |
| Access requirements | Complete The Hex and The Old Peace | Operation availability and participation rules |
| Reward source | No separately itemized completion reward published | Moonflesh exchange rewards and operation reward pool |
| Relationship stated by Digital Extremes | Narratively connected to the operation, but separate from its rewards and dialogue | Owns the event rewards and dialogue referenced in the announcement |
The important distinction is the reward source. Moonflesh is associated with the operation’s exchange system. It should not be treated as a quest-completion reward for Prologue to Tau. Completing the permanent Codex chapters does not, on the published evidence, grant the operation’s exchange currency or shop inventory.
Why players may expect a reward
Shared release timing
The prologue launched in the Codex on October 15, 2026, alongside information about Epoch Operation: Taubound. When two related story and event announcements appear at the same time, players can reasonably expect one reward track. The official wording removes that ambiguity: the prologue is connected in story terms, while the operation controls its own rewards and dialogue.

Similar terminology
Both pieces of content use Tau-related naming. That shared terminology describes their setting and narrative relationship; it does not merge their progression systems. A Codex quest and a time-limited operation can coexist without sharing a completion payout.

Third-party reward lists
Event reward lists are often copied into quest guides. For this release, an event item appearing in a list does not prove that the item comes from the prologue. To identify the source correctly, check whether the item is described as a Codex quest completion reward or as an exchange or participation reward for Epoch Operation: Taubound. The official announcement places the latter category with the operation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical checklist before you conclude the quest is missing a reward
- Confirm that both The Hex and The Old Peace show as completed.
- Open the Codex and verify that you selected the Tau Prologue Series rather than an operation activity.
- Read the completion screen as a story-quest result. The current official notices do not promise a separate item claim.
- Keep operation rewards in the operation’s own exchange or reward interface. Do not expect the Codex quest to populate that inventory.
- Check the latest official patch notes if Digital Extremes later announces a named completion item or changes the quest’s reward structure.
How to interpret future updates
The answer can change if a later hotfix or patch adds a specific quest-completion item. A reliable update would identify the item and tie it directly to Prologue to Tau, rather than merely listing it among Epoch Operation: Taubound rewards. Look for four details in any future announcement:
- The exact source: whether the item is awarded for completing the Codex quest itself.
- The timing: the patch or hotfix date that introduced the change.
- The claim rules: whether the reward is granted once, on every replay, or through a separate event interface.
- The account conditions: whether existing players who already completed the prologue receive the item automatically or must replay it.
Until an official notice supplies those details, the documented status remains a story-only completion outcome with permanent replay access.

What this means for your time and inventory planning
If you are deciding whether to play Prologue to Tau for a particular piece of equipment or a quantity of currency, do not plan around an unlisted payout. The available evidence supports playing it for the Main Story chapter and for access to a replayable Codex experience. If your goal is Moonflesh or an operation exchange item, use the systems associated with Epoch Operation: Taubound instead of treating the prologue as a farming activity.
This distinction also matters for replay decisions. Replaying a permanent story chapter can let you revisit its content, but the official descriptions do not promise a second reward, a resettable grant, or an improved payout. Replay it for the chapter itself unless a later official update defines a reward cycle.
Bottom line for the 2026 release
As of October 19, 2026, Digital Extremes has published no separate, named completion reward for Prologue to Tau. Complete The Hex and The Old Peace to unlock the Tau Prologue Series in the Codex. The chapters are a permanent, replayable part of the Main Story. Epoch Operation: Taubound’s Moonflesh exchanges and other event rewards belong to that operation, not to the prologue quest.
