What is the correct Jujutsu Kaisen reading order?
The simplest, spoiler-conscious route is to read the prequel first and then follow the main manga’s numbered volumes consecutively:
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School — a four-chapter prequel collected in one volume.
- Jujutsu Kaisen, Volumes 1–30 — read in numerical order. Volume 30 is the final volume of the main series.

There is no need to create a custom chapter sequence or alternate between Volume 0 and the main volumes: read all of Volume 0, then start Volume 1 and continue through Volume 30. The publishers establish Volume 0’s prequel status and the main series’ volume sequence, but do not prescribe one mandatory order for every reader.

Should I read Jujutsu Kaisen 0 before or after Volume 1?
For a first read, read Jujutsu Kaisen 0 before Volume 1. If you prefer to follow the main series’ original publication path, starting with Volume 1 and reading Volume 0 afterward is also a reasonable reader-choice option.
The key distinction is between chronological context and publication order. Volume 0 is a prequel, so it comes first in the recommended story-context route. But “prequel” does not mean that a reader must follow a publisher-mandated sequence: the available publisher information identifies what Volume 0 is, without requiring you to read it at a particular point in the numbered run.
If you are introducing someone to the series, the prequel-first route is easy to explain and keeps the reading plan simple: one volume, followed by the main series from its first volume to its last. If you have already started Volume 1, there is no need to abandon your place or restart; you can read Volume 0 and then return to the next numbered volume.
Is Jujutsu Kaisen 0 required?
It is not a numbered volume of the main series, but it belongs in a complete reading of the manga. VIZ calls it the official prequel and says the Jujutsu Kaisen experience is not complete without reading it. If you only want the main numbered run, you can read Volumes 1–30 on their own, but that leaves out the official prequel.

Volume 0 is a collected four-chapter story focused on Yuta Okkotsu entering Jujutsu High. You do not need to track down four separate chapters: the story is available as a single collected volume. Its separate “0” numbering is a cue that it sits outside the numbered sequence, not that it should be skipped.
Where do the Jujutsu Kaisen novels fit?
The three prose books listed in Shueisha’s JUMP j BOOKS bibliography are optional additions, not extra manga volumes needed to complete the main story. The bibliography supplies their titles and publication dates, but it does not give a chapter-by-chapter placement guide.

When should I read Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo?
Read Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo after Volume 30 if you want to avoid placing an officially published spin-off ahead of the completed main manga. This is practical, spoiler-conscious guidance—not an official chronology: VIZ hosts Modulo as a Shonen Jump title, but its page does not state whether it is a direct sequel, an alternate continuity, or a side story, and it does not specify a canonical reading position.
