For the clearest story and character progression, play the main Uncharted games in release order: Drake’s Fortune, Among Thieves, Drake’s Deception, then A Thief’s End. Follow them with The Lost Legacy, a standalone adventure starring Chloe Frazer.
Recommended order for the Uncharted games
- Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune — Nathan Drake’s first game follows a clue connected to Sir Francis Drake and a search for El Dorado.
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves — Nathan pursues the lost fleet of Marco Polo and the legend of Shambhala.
- Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception — Nathan and his mentor, Victor “Sully” Sullivan, search for Ubar, also known as the “Atlantis of the Sands.”
- Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End — Nathan returns to adventuring after his brother Sam resurfaces; the story follows pirate Henry Avery’s lost treasure and Nathan’s past.
- Uncharted: The Lost Legacy — Chloe Frazer leads this standalone adventure alongside Nadine Ross, set in India’s Western Ghats. Play it after A Thief’s End to follow the series’ release sequence and arrive with familiarity with recurring characters.
PlayStation’s official series page describes these entries and their stories. Its Legacy of Thieves Collection FAQ confirms that the games share an evolving storyline but can each stand on their own.
Which Uncharted game should you play first?
Start with Drake’s Fortune if you want the fullest character context and to experience the series in order. The first three games establish Nathan’s relationships and adventures before A Thief’s End.
If you want to begin with a later game, A Thief’s End is an accessible starting point, though you will miss earlier context. PlayStation says the games are designed to stand alone and that you do not need to play the whole series to understand Legacy of Thieves. The publisher’s FAQ answers the question directly: “Whichever one you’d like. While there is a general evolving storyline through the series, each game is meant to stand on its own and has a narrative that’s unique. Any way you choose to play through the series, you’ll enjoy!”

The later collection does not include the first three games. PlayStation Direct also lists a PS5 disc edition; check the current PlayStation Direct listing for the live edition and availability. Store listings, prices, and subscription access can change.
For the full sequence, the PS4 Nathan Drake Collection bundles the opening trilogy, while Legacy of Thieves covers the two later adventures on PS5 and PC. Choose based on where you want to start and which platform you use.
