At COMPUTEX on June 2, 2024, NVIDIA announced that its Blackwell architecture would appear in a broader range of systems built through its MGX modular reference-design ecosystem, including the GB200 NVL2. NVIDIA also said its Spectrum-X Ethernet networking platform was generally available and outlined a plan for annual product updates. The announcements covered both computing systems and the networks used to connect them—not a single new product.
What changed in NVIDIA’s Blackwell system lineup?
The announcement extended Blackwell beyond one fixed server design. Systems described by Network World could use one or more GPUs, x86 or Grace-based processors, and air or liquid cooling. NVIDIA said its MGX ecosystem now supported Blackwell and named manufacturers developing cloud, on-premises, and edge AI systems. The announcement did not mean that every configuration shared the same components or cooling requirements.
NVIDIA’s COMPUTEX announcement named ASRock Rack, ASUS, GIGABYTE, Ingrasys, Inventec, Pegatron, QCT, Supermicro, Wistron, and Wiwynn among the manufacturers involved in the broader system ecosystem. The announcement establishes participation at that time, not current product availability or delivery schedules. NVIDIA’s COMPUTEX 2024 announcement
GB200 NVL2 was the smaller-scale option
GB200 NVL2 was presented as a smaller system than the GB200 NVL72, which NVIDIA had introduced in March 2024. NVIDIA said NVL2 was designed for large language model inference, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and data processing. That positioning distinguishes it from a larger rack-scale configuration; it does not establish that NVL2 is suitable for every workload or facility.

How to interpret the performance figures
Network World reported NVIDIA briefing claims that GB200 NVL2 could deliver up to 18 times faster data processing and eight times better energy efficiency compared with x86 CPUs. These are vendor claims reported in 2024. The report does not provide an independent benchmark method or enough test detail to treat either figure as a guaranteed result for a particular workload. What NVIDIA said about Spectrum-X
NVIDIA said Spectrum-X was generally available at the time of the COMPUTEX announcement. It also described a plan for annual product releases, with increases in bandwidth and port counts alongside software features and programmability. That was a stated release strategy, not proof that every later product followed precisely the same schedule.

Spectrum-X is a system-level networking platform, not just a switch. NVIDIA’s current platform description combines Ethernet switches with SuperNICs for AI fabrics, including GPU-to-GPU computing networks and AI storage. NVIDIA describes the platform as standards-based Ethernet and lists SONiC and NVIDIA Cumulus among supported operating systems. These are NVIDIA’s descriptions of the platform; they should not be read as independent performance findings. NVIDIA Spectrum-X platform
Keep the 2024 announcement separate from later generations
NVIDIA’s later Spectrum-X800 announcement described a configuration using the Spectrum SN5600 800Gb/s switch and BlueField-3 SuperNIC, and named Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and CoreWeave among early adopters at that announcement’s time. Those details belong to that later product announcement, not to the June 2024 COMPUTEX reveal. NVIDIA’s Spectrum-X800 announcement

NVIDIA’s current Spectrum-X page also describes subsequent platform developments, including Spectrum-XGS for connecting separate data centers, multiplane scaling, and silicon photonics. The current page describes an 800G OSFP switch configuration as well. These newer capabilities should not be retroactively attributed to the original 2024 launch.
NVIDIA has also published a comparison claiming 1.6 times the network performance of traditional Ethernet fabrics. That is a vendor-published figure, not an independently established benchmark in the cited material; its result should not be assumed for every topology or workload.

The COMPUTEX announcements describe an ecosystem and product direction, not a procurement specification. A deployment decision requires current configuration and support details from the system and networking suppliers.
Quick Recap
- Workload and scale: Determine whether the need is inference, RAG, data processing, or training, and whether an NVL2-scale system or a larger rack-scale design matches the workload.
- Host and system configuration: Compare GPU count, x86 versus Grace-based CPU design, cooling approach, and the complete configuration offered by each manufacturer.
- Network design: Validate required bandwidth, switch and SuperNIC generation, topology, Ethernet software stack, tenant isolation, and compatibility with the rest of the environment.
- Facility readiness: Check power delivery, cooling, water, and operational requirements for the specific system. Forrester senior analyst Alvin Nguyen cautioned in Network World’s 2024 coverage that higher-power variants could call for liquid cooling and infrastructure changes, and that the networking platform adds complexity. This is a site-planning caution, not a universal requirement for every Blackwell system.
- Supplier and support: Confirm current specifications, service coverage, availability, and delivery timing directly with vendors. The 2024 ecosystem announcement does not establish present-day stock or lead times.
