Newark is owned by Avnet and has been part of the company since Avnet acquired Newark’s parent, Premier Farnell, in 2016. “Newark, an Avnet company” describes that existing ownership—not a new acquisition. Newark remains the brand serving the Americas, while the same wider organization uses Farnell in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Japan, and element14 in Asia Pacific.
Is Newark owned by Avnet?
Yes. Newark says its parent company, Premier Farnell, was acquired by Avnet in 2016. Newark has operated within Avnet since then, while continuing to use the Newark name in the Americas. Newark’s About Us page outlines the ownership and regional brands.
The phrase “An Avnet Company” is a way of presenting Newark as part of Avnet’s broader organization. It does not announce a newly completed purchase. Newark describes the relationship as a way to support customers across product development and manufacturing, from early design work through production and maintenance, repair and operations (MRO). Newark’s Avnet company page explains that positioning.
What happened to Newark element14?
The names reflect regional branding within the same wider Avnet organization, rather than a single storefront name used everywhere. Newark serves the Americas; Farnell is used in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Japan; and element14 is used in Asia Pacific. The precise storefront and product availability a customer sees can therefore depend on their region.

Before comparing catalogues, shipping or support, check which regional site and selling entity serves your location. A difference between Newark and another regional storefront does not by itself mean the businesses have different parent companies.
Is Newark still the same distributor?
Newark continues to describe itself as a distributor of products and technology for electronic and industrial system design, maintenance and repair. Its authorized-distributor policy also characterizes it as a high-service distributor for electronic-system design, maintenance and repair. The policy statement sets out that scope.

Newark’s Avnet relationship page presents the companies’ capabilities as complementary across a product’s lifecycle: Newark contributes proof-of-concept and design strengths, while Avnet brings broadline distribution and production-scale expertise. Together, that positioning covers the path from prototype through production and ongoing support, including end-of-life supply needs. Newark’s About Avnet page describes the combined offer.
What does the Avnet relationship mean for customers?
Newark says customers retain its customer service, same-day shipping and free technical support, alongside access to more than 900,000 products, according to its 2026 webpage. Those are Newark’s stated customer commitments; actual stock, shipping eligibility and service details should be checked for the item and destination in question. Newark’s statement on the Avnet relationship provides the claim.

- For ongoing maintenance: Newark’s stated distributor scope includes maintenance and repair, while the broader lifecycle positioning includes MRO and end-of-life needs.
These capabilities describe the organizations’ stated offer; they do not guarantee that every product, service or shipping option is available in every region or for every order. For a distributor comparison, assess the regional storefront, the lifecycle stage you need, catalogue and stock status, technical support, and whether the supplier fits occasional maker purchases or recurring business procurement.

Avnet announced on June 25, 2024, that Rebeca Obregon would become Newark president effective July 1, 2024. The announcement described Newark as a high-service electronics-components distributor supported by an international supply chain. Avnet’s June 2024 announcement gives the appointment details.
