MuleSoft Agent Scanners are enterprise software capabilities in Salesforce’s MuleSoft Agent Fabric. They scan connected environments to discover and catalog AI agents, giving organizations a shared inventory of agents that may otherwise be spread across teams and platforms. Salesforce presents that visibility as a way to help identify unmanaged agents and support risk management; it is not proof that scanning alone prevents security problems.
What are MuleSoft Agent Scanners?
Agent Scanners are software, not a physical scanner device. Salesforce describes them as a way to find AI agents in supported environments and collect information about those agents. The intended audience is enterprise IT, integration, security, and AI governance teams managing agents across more than one platform.
The problem they address is agent sprawl: when teams build or deploy agents in different environments, an organization may not have a dependable inventory of what exists or what each agent can access. Salesforce’s September 25, 2025 launch announcement framed MuleSoft Agent Fabric as a broader platform for discovering, orchestrating, governing, and observing agents across ecosystems. How do MuleSoft Agent Scanners find AI agents?
Salesforce says scanners connect to supported environments and continuously scan them to detect and catalog agents. Its Spring ’26 release material describes a shared, real-time inventory and shows an example interface for a scheduled Amazon Bedrock scan, including scan-run status and counts of agents added, updated, removed, or already present in Exchange. Salesforce’s January 22, 2026 announcement says scanners can identify running agents, their endpoints, and what they are designed to do. Where the platform exposes it, extracted metadata may include agent capabilities, the LLM powering an agent, and data permissions. Salesforce’s examples of capabilities include querying a database and processing a refund. Which AI platforms do Agent Scanners support?
Salesforce’s statements describe coverage at different times and in different markets. They should not be collapsed into one timeless, global list.

Do Agent Scanners automatically add agents to Agent Registry?
Scanning and registry are distinct capabilities, even when a workflow connects them. Scanners discover and catalog; Agent Registry is the place Agent Fabric uses to catalog agents and tools. Salesforce’s August 17, 2026 Japan release says scanners continuously scan ecosystems and automatically register agents, MCP servers, and APIs in Agent Registry in that market. How are Agent Scanners different from the rest of MuleSoft Agent Fabric?
Agent Fabric is the broader platform; the scanner is its discovery component. Salesforce describes the related capabilities this way:
- Agent Scanners: discover and catalog agents in supported environments.
- Agent Registry: catalog agents and tools for reference and use in the platform.
- Agent Broker: route tasks among agents.
- Agent Governance: apply controls to agent activity.
- Agent Visualizer: show an agent network.
These capabilities address different stages of managing an agent ecosystem. Finding an agent does not, by itself, orchestrate it, govern its actions, or prove that its access is appropriate. Salesforce’s Agent Fabric launch announcement

What should an enterprise verify before relying on scanning?
A discovered inventory can help teams ask better governance questions, but the value depends on what the scanner can see in the environments the organization actually uses. Before treating the inventory as a source of truth, buyers should verify:
- Coverage: whether each platform and deployment pattern in use is supported in the relevant region.
- Metadata: which details are exposed for each environment, including capabilities, model information, endpoints, and data permissions.
- Operations: how scan schedules, run status, and changes to the inventory are handled.
- Workflow: how discovered agents enter the registry and connect to separate governance or orchestration controls.
These checks matter because Salesforce’s public materials state the product’s intended functions, but do not provide an independent discovery-completeness rate, false-positive rate, measured reduction in security incidents, or verified customer return on investment. Continuous scanning is a visibility mechanism, not a guarantee that every agent will be found or that identified risks will be resolved.

What does the agent-growth forecast mean?
Salesforce’s January 2026 announcement cites an IDC projection of more than 1 billion actively deployed AI agents worldwide by 2029, 40 times the 2025 level. This is an IDC projection relayed by Salesforce, not an independently verified count or a measure of Agent Scanner performance.
