Project Nova is Mozilla’s internal name for a redesign of Firefox’s interface and design system—not a new browser. Mozilla said the refreshed design began rolling out to Firefox on desktop and mobile on September 29, 2026. Its announcement concerns Mozilla Firefox; it does not establish that independent Firefox-based browsers will receive Nova.
What is Firefox Nova?
Nova is a renewal of Firefox’s existing interface, not a replacement product. Mozilla’s design announcement describes the idea this way: “The name fits: A nova can look like a new star, yet it comes from existing matter — a renewal, not a replacement.” The page does not attribute that sentence to an individual speaker. Mozilla’s Firefox design announcement presents Nova as a refresh to Firefox’s interface and design system.
Mozilla said rollout to Firefox users on desktop and mobile began on September 29, 2026. That is the start date Mozilla gave, not a guarantee that every user or device received the redesign simultaneously.
What is changing in Firefox?
Mozilla describes the redesign as aiming for a more cohesive, cleaner, warmer, faster, and more adaptable Firefox. The announced work focuses on navigation, Settings, privacy controls, and access to browser layouts and tab tools.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Navigation: Mozilla describes simpler navigation as part of the redesign.
- Settings and privacy: The redesigned Settings experience includes controls for turning off AI features and adjusting Enhanced Tracking Protection, according to Mozilla’s announcement. Mozilla’s Settings and privacy details.
- Tab and layout tools: Mozilla has described easier access to tab groups, split view, and vertical tabs. Its development update also listed Compact Mode’s return as an area of work. These were development priorities; the available announcements do not verify the final release status of every item. Mozilla’s May 21, 2026 development update.
These are qualitative design goals and feature descriptions. Mozilla’s cited announcements do not provide Nova-specific adoption, speed, or satisfaction statistics.
Will Nova affect Firefox-based browsers?
Mozilla’s Nova announcement is about Mozilla Firefox. It does not say that independent browsers built on Firefox automatically adopt Nova or share its interface changes. A browser can use Firefox technology while maintaining its own interface, release schedule, and feature choices.

If you use a Firefox-based fork, check that browser’s own release notes or documentation. To assess whether it has adopted Nova, look for specific confirmation of the interface, individual features, update timing, and theme or custom-style compatibility. Mozilla’s announcement does not establish those details for any named fork.
