You can explore it in an emulator or run it on the documented Digilent Arty-A7-35T FPGA board. It is a small, purpose-built hobby computer—not a PC replacement, nor a processor that runs existing software unchanged.
What is the Tridora System?
Tridora combines hardware and software designed specifically for each other. Its processor is a custom 32-bit, word-oriented stack machine, and the project includes the tools needed to write and run programs for it. The design is open source, so its hardware and software can be examined and modified. Hackster.io’s coverage quotes developer Sebastian Lederer describing it as a homebrew CPU in Verilog with a matching software environment, including a Pascal compiler and assembler.
That integration is the point: Tridora is not simply a CPU implementation waiting for a familiar operating system or application library. The processor, compiler, and development tools form a deliberately compact computer project.
What makes Tridora’s processor different?
Rather than use a mainstream instruction set, Tridora has its own instruction set and stack-machine architecture. Project descriptions report three stacks and 16-bit instructions within a 32-bit word-oriented design. That combination is specific to Tridora; it does not make the system compatible with software written for conventional desktop or embedded processors.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Early project coverage described the CPU core as roughly 500 lines of Verilog. That is a reported source-code size, not a measure of speed, capability, or code quality. The published clock figures also changed: the project details initially reported 83 MHz, while a May 27, 2025 project log says the clock was reduced to 77 MHz when an instruction cache was added. Treat both as dated implementation details rather than guaranteed current specifications. Project details and the dated project logs provide the relevant context.
How does Pascal fit in?
The compiler was built for Tridora’s CPU instead of targeting an existing processor. Project descriptions report that it is written in Pascal, can compile itself, and comprises roughly 9,000 lines of code. The system also includes a native editor and assembler, alongside a minimal operating system.

Tridora’s Pascal is a project-specific dialect, not a claim of complete ISO Pascal or Turbo Pascal compatibility. Reported features include arbitrary-length strings, selected Turbo Pascal 3.0 library features, graphics functions, and non-standard file handling; the dialect also has restrictions and extensions. Those details make it an interesting example of language and machine co-design, but anyone porting Pascal code should expect to check the dialect and available libraries rather than assume a drop-in target.
Can you try Tridora without an FPGA board?
Yes. Project coverage describes an emulator as another way to explore Tridora, so buying hardware is not the only route. The available descriptions do not establish that a particular emulator package or setup works on every operating system; consult the project’s current instructions before choosing a build or expecting a specific host configuration.

If you already have suitable hardware and want to experience the physical computer, the documented target is the Digilent Arty-A7-35T. The project describes UART serial-console, SD-card, and VGA support for that setup. A project discussion says the Arty-A7-35T is no longer in production; current stock, a compatible alternative, and whether Tridora supports that alternative are not established here. Do not assume that another FPGA board will work just because it has similar features.
| Route | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Emulator | Exploring Tridora without buying an FPGA board | An emulator is reported as available; the project’s current setup instructions determine host requirements. Hackster.io coverage |
| FPGA board | Hands-on use of the documented hardware and its peripherals | The documented board is the Digilent Arty-A7-35T, with UART, SD-card, and VGA support described. A project discussion says the 35T is no longer in production; supported replacements and current stock are not stated. Project details |
How can you develop programs for it?
Tridora offers two described development approaches: work within its own environment or cross-compile from a host computer. Native editing, compiling, and assembling fit the project’s self-contained design; cross-compilation offers a separate host-based workflow. Available descriptions do not quantify compile-time differences or establish which route is easier for beginners.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
On hardware, the minimal operating system and native tools are intended to let you develop on the board itself. For either route, follow the current project documentation for the exact files, build steps, and transfer process; the documented existence of a tool does not establish that an older instruction set still matches the latest project version.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What has changed in later project updates?
Tridora’s implementation has evolved, so early feature descriptions should not be read as a complete current specification. A May 27, 2025 log reports an instruction cache and a clock reduction from 83 MHz to 77 MHz. On October 14, 2025, another project log reports work on a data cache and audio.

The October update says the developer chose a write-back data cache because Pascal-generated code frequently reads, writes, and rereads variables. That is the developer’s stated engineering rationale, not an independently measured performance result. The logs establish what was reported on those dates; they do not by themselves verify the newest repository state.
Who is Tridora for?
Tridora is especially relevant to readers curious about computer architecture, FPGA design, compilers, or how a small computer can be designed as a coherent whole. Its value is in exploring the choices behind a custom stack machine and its matching language tools, not in running mainstream PC applications. The open-source project also gives technically inclined readers a way to inspect and modify the system rather than treating it as a closed product.
