Compared with the older Kirin 9000S, a community-maintained hardware database lists it with more CPU cores and threads and a higher top clock speed. Those specifications suggest a newer configuration, but they do not prove how much faster it is: the cited sources provide no independent, controlled Kirin 9050 Pro-versus-9000S benchmark.
What is the Kirin 9050 Pro?
The Kirin 9050 Pro is a Huawei mobile SoC: a chip that combines key computing components, including the CPU and graphics processor, for use in a smartphone. Huawei’s October 1, 2026 Mate 90 launch release identifies it in the Mate 90 Pro Max Premium Edition and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. TechRadar also reports that the chip is used in the Mate XT2 Ultimate Design, which went on sale in China on September 12, 2026.
Huawei’s release calls the Mate 90 lineup’s chip the “flagship Tau chipset,” and associates the Kirin 9050 Pro with the premium variants. The company says those models deliver a 31% overall performance increase, but the cited release does not establish that this is a direct comparison with Kirin 9000S. The figure should not be read as a measured 31% advantage over that older chip. Huawei’s October 1, 2026 launch release.
How do the Kirin 9050 Pro and Kirin 9000S compare?
The clearest available side-by-side is a set of reported specifications from Jie Ge’s Knowledge Base, a community-maintained hardware reference. It is not an official Huawei specification sheet or a performance test.

The core counts, thread counts, frequencies and GPU names above are reported by Jie Ge’s Knowledge Base. They support a cautious specification comparison, not a quantified speed ranking. A higher listed clock or core count alone cannot show how quickly a phone completes real tasks, how it performs under sustained load, or how efficiently it uses power.
Is the Kirin 9050 Pro faster than the Kirin 9000S?
The available evidence does not establish a direct performance result. Huawei-attributed figures reported for the 9050 Pro use other baselines: Huawei Central reports claimed 24% peak single-core and 52% multi-core concurrent performance improvements over the Kirin 9030 Pro; TechRadar reports the same CPU comparisons and a 142% graphics-rendering increase. TechRadar notes that Huawei supplied the figures and that they have not been independently verified. None is a 9050 Pro-versus-9000S result.

Accordingly, it is fair to say the 9050 Pro has a newer, higher-listed CPU configuration in the cited database. It is not supported to say it is a particular percentage faster than the 9000S. Independent results under comparable conditions would be needed for that claim. See Huawei Central’s report and TechRadar’s coverage.

Phones associated with Kirin 9000S
Jie Ge’s Knowledge Base associates the Kirin 9000S with Huawei Mate 60 family devices, including the Mate 60 Pro. Regional and model variants should be checked against the specific handset listing rather than inferred from the family name.
What is known about the manufacturing process?
The cited sources do not establish the Kirin 9050 Pro’s process node. TechRadar reports that Huawei did not announce it. HiSilicon’s product page lists a 5 nm process for the Kirin 9000, which is a different chip; that figure cannot be transferred to the 9050 Pro or Kirin 9000S. HiSilicon’s Kirin 9000 page.

How to interpret Huawei’s performance claims
Huawei’s launch announcement describes a broad improvement for premium Mate 90 models, while other reported figures compare the 9050 Pro with the Kirin 9030 Pro. They answer different questions and should not be combined into a single 9050 Pro-versus-9000S advantage. Huawei Executive Director and Chairman of Huawei Consumer BG Richard Yu described the Mate 90 launch as a “comprehensive evolution” across design, performance, imaging, reliability and smart user experience; this is a company statement, not an independent technical assessment.
