It controls the Home and Apps screens, app navigation, widgets and layout. Samsung says it comes preinstalled and cannot be removed through normal device settings.
Samsung Experience Home is now One UI Home
The name changed: Samsung’s Google Play listing states, “Samsung Experience Home starts fresh with a new face and name: One UI Home.” If you see Samsung Experience Home referenced on an older Galaxy device or in older guidance, it refers to the predecessor name for Samsung’s launcher.
One UI Home is part of the Galaxy software experience, not simply a separate app you can remove like an ordinary download. Samsung Support says it comes preinstalled on Galaxy phones and tablets and cannot be removed. The Play listing notes that available features differ by device and operating-system version.
What One UI Home does
The launcher provides the screens and controls you use to find and arrange apps on a Galaxy device. You can choose how apps appear across Home and Apps screens, place widgets, and use navigation gestures. Samsung’s support guidance also covers notification badges, gestures for opening the notification panel, lock-screen wallpapers and styles, and video lock-screen backgrounds.

- Arrange the Home screen: move apps and widgets, manage screen pages, and lock the layout to prevent accidental changes.
- Open item controls: touch and hold an app icon or widget to reach options such as App info or Widget settings.
- Navigate and access tools: use full-screen gestures to hide navigation buttons, and use Edge panels for quick access to selected items.
- Multitask: use the Recents screen to open supported apps in split-screen or pop-up layouts through Multi Window.
How to customize a Galaxy Home screen
Exact menu names and available options can vary by Galaxy model and software version. These are the main customization routes described in Samsung’s support guidance:
- Change the layout: touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen to open Home-screen options, then adjust the layout or related settings available on your device.
- Add or configure a widget: touch and hold an empty area, open the Widgets picker, and select a widget. Touch and hold an existing widget to open its settings or resize it where supported.
- Manage apps and pages: touch and hold an app icon to move it or open App info. Use the Home-screen options to manage screen pages and choose how the Home and Apps screens work together.
- Prevent accidental changes: open Home-screen settings and enable the option to lock the Home screen layout, if available on your software version.
- Adjust navigation: open Settings and look under Display for Navigation bar options; choose full-screen gestures if you want to hide the navigation buttons. Menu labels can differ across versions.

Samsung’s Good Lock Home Up module adds deeper Home-screen customization while remaining a Samsung-made extension. In an April 9, 2025 article, Samsung Global Newsroom described its DIY Home Screen tools for freely resizing and repositioning apps, widgets and folders, along with sticker and layer tools. One example lets a decorative sticker cover an app icon while tapping the sticker still launches the hidden app.

Home Up also offers a way to disable the fixed favorites row. Its Home Gesture Animation feature includes four preset styles and controls for animation speed and vibration. Availability depends on device, software version and region; check Galaxy Store and Good Lock on your device rather than assuming every feature is available everywhere. Why is One UI Home using battery?
One UI Home is the launcher, so it runs as part of the normal Galaxy interface. Seeing it in a battery-usage list does not by itself establish that it is malfunctioning. The information here does not establish a universal battery-use level or a single cause for unusually high usage. Check your device’s battery settings to see the reported usage and timeframe, and compare it with your own recent use rather than treating one reading as a diagnosis.

How One UI 8 relates to One UI Home
One UI Home is the launcher; One UI is Samsung’s broader software interface. Samsung announced One UI 8 on September 15, 2025, describing personalized proactive suggestions, Now Bar activity, Now Brief daily updates, multimodal AI and an experience optimized for phones, tablets and foldables. Samsung lists eligible Galaxy S, Z, Tab and A devices, but rollout timing and individual features vary by model, operating-system version and region. The announcement is on Samsung Mobile Press.
That broader software update does not mean every One UI Home feature is available on every Galaxy device. Samsung’s Play listing specifically cautions that launcher features differ by device or OS version, so use the device-specific support information for compatibility questions.
