ATMOSFAR is an upcoming open-world survival and exploration game set on Tycos, an alien planet made of floating islands. You explore on foot and in the air, salvage scrap, convert it into reusable parts, manufacture fuel and equipment, and keep both your life-support system and flying craft operational. Its central survival challenge is a connected chain of preparation: the player needs power and supplies, the aircraft needs fuel and repairs, and the mobile Cloud Cruiser needs to be stocked and developed.
The official Steam listing, Shueisha Games’ publisher page, and Apog Labs’ press kit describe planned features rather than a hands-on build. Availability, final content, pricing, and the launch date can therefore change.
What kind of game is ATMOSFAR?
ATMOSFAR combines open-world exploration, survival management, vehicle piloting, crafting, and light base building. The world is not a conventional continuous landmass. Tycos is presented as a layered collection of floating islands separated by open air, with different regions and biomes to discover.

You can travel on foot across islands or use specialized aircraft to move quickly between them. Exploration produces the materials needed for survival and progression: scrap is recovered from the environment, processed into reusable parts, and then used to make equipment, consumables, and vehicle components. Artifacts provide another progression route by improving flying-vessel parts and sections.

The story premise concerns the fate of humanity’s final outpost or a collapsed colony on Tycos. Official descriptions support both following the story and roaming freely, so the intended structure is a mixture of guided objectives and self-directed exploration.
How the survival loop works
ATMOSFAR’s advertised survival model is built around preparation, travel, and maintenance. The available official descriptions do not present it primarily as a hunger-and-thirst simulator. Instead, survival depends on keeping a chain of systems supplied and functional.
1. Scavenge the environment
Exploration begins with extracting scrap and other useful materials from the islands. Scrap is not simply a score or disposable currency: it can be converted into parts that feed later crafting and repairs. This gives each expedition a practical purpose. You are looking for materials that let you make the next tool, consumable, fuel supply, or upgrade.

Recovered scrap is processed into parts for new items. The official materials do not publish a complete recipe list, so the precise quantities and workstations may depend on the final build. The important design principle is clear: salvage supports a reusable manufacturing chain rather than a one-time pickup system.
3. Manufacture fuel and equipment
Fuel and consumables are produced before or during travel. Equipment manufacturing supports exploration, while fuel determines how far your aircraft can go and how much margin you have when weather or enemies disrupt a route. Running out of supplies away from the Cloud Cruiser is therefore a planning problem, not merely a combat failure.
4. Maintain the player and vehicles
Your backpack contains a life-support system that powers you and your tools. The Wasps also require fuel, maintenance, and repairs. A successful expedition must account for both sides: personal life support and aircraft readiness. Ignoring either can restrict what you can safely explore.

5. Use artifacts and upgrades to extend your range
Artifacts are advertised as a way to upgrade flying-vessel parts and sections. Alongside Wasp component swaps and Cloud Cruiser improvements, these upgrades are intended to make later travel and tougher environments manageable.
Life support, tools, and resource management
The backpack life-support system is one of the clearest differences between ATMOSFAR’s advertised survival loop and a basic food-and-water model. It supplies the player and tools, so resource management affects both personal endurance and practical capability. A tool that depends on the same support system as the player may become unavailable when reserves are low.
The official descriptions do not state numerical capacity, drain rates, refill times, damage values, or exact failure penalties. Treat those figures as unknown until the developer publishes them for a specific build. What is established is the relationship between supplies, equipment use, and travel preparation.
- Plan life-support reserves before leaving a safe base.
- Manufacture consumables instead of assuming every need can be found in the field.
- Keep spare material available for aircraft maintenance and repairs.
- Expect longer or riskier routes to require more careful preparation.
Wasps: the small aircraft you use to explore
Wasps are compact flying craft designed for different jobs. They can fly quickly and hover, making them useful for crossing gaps between islands, reaching elevated locations, and positioning yourself around hazards. Steam describes four classes with different appearances, abilities, and aerodynamics, while the developer press kit names Utility, Cargo, Scout, and Fighter classes.
Because Steam’s Early Access plan separately lists the Scout Wasp as a later addition, class availability is build- and release-dependent. Do not assume every named class will be present at the first public build.

Wasp upkeep
Every Wasp is part of the survival economy. You must manufacture or carry fuel, perform maintenance, and repair damage. The game’s hazards can turn a routine trip into a costly return journey, so the most useful aircraft is not necessarily the fastest one; it is the one whose role and upkeep match the expedition.

Wasp customization
Official descriptions say you can swap engine parts, hover sections, and hulls, then apply paint jobs. These changes are presented as customization and upgrade systems, but the sources do not establish final statistics, component rarity, or whether every part is available at launch.
The Cloud Cruiser is your mobile base
The Cloud Cruiser is a large flying base rather than a stationary building. It can carry Wasps and their fuel, provide storage, and be piloted between locations. Steam describes a hangar and lounge, while the press kit adds space for scrap and craftables, crop growing and harvesting, and the ability to build and expand the Cruiser.
This arrangement changes how a base functions. Instead of returning to one fixed location after every expedition, you can reposition the Cruiser near the region you are working in. The trade-off is that the base itself becomes another system to manage: aircraft, fuel, storage, crops, construction, and shared facilities all compete for attention and materials.

What the Cruiser can hold and support
- Wasps and their fuel supplies.
- Storage for collected materials.
- Scrap and craftables, according to the press kit.
- A hangar and lounge, according to the Steam description.
- Crops that can be grown and harvested, according to the press kit.
- Expandable sections that players can build and improve.
Shared Cruiser management
In co-op, players can cooperate on managing and building the shared Cloud Cruiser. The base is therefore not merely a personal menu or fast-travel point; it is intended to be a common project for a small group.
Hazards that make preparation matter
Tycos is described as an active, dangerous environment. Official materials identify alien plants, creatures, drones, nightfall, strong winds, jet streams, and rainstorms as threats or complications. These hazards affect both ground movement and flight.
- Alien plants and creatures: biological threats can make a seemingly valuable location unsafe to approach.
- Drones: mechanical enemies add another danger while scavenging or travelling.
- Nightfall: reduced visibility and changing conditions can make navigation and return trips more difficult.
- Strong winds and jet streams: atmospheric movement can influence piloting and route choice.
- Rainstorms: weather can make an otherwise manageable flight more hazardous.
The sources do not publish exact damage, visibility, wind-strength, or survival-timer numbers. The reliable takeaway is that weather, time, enemies, and vehicle readiness interact, rewarding players who prepare rather than those who treat every island as a consequence-free resource stop.

Exploration, regions, and progression
The world is described as a set of islands organized into regions and biomes. Exploration is expected to combine on-foot movement, Wasp flight, scavenging, and story discovery. The mobile base lets you establish a working position without giving up the ability to move onward.

These are roadmap intentions, not guarantees of what is currently playable.
Can you play ATMOSFAR solo or with friends?
Yes. The official listing advertises single-player and online co-op for up to four players. Co-op examples include sharing camps, riding in a friend’s Wasp, flying in formation, and cooperating on the Cloud Cruiser.
That makes the game’s cooperative focus practical rather than purely combat-based. One player might concentrate on piloting or hauling while another handles scavenging, construction, or supplies, although the official material does not prescribe fixed classes or roles for human players.

On October 7, 2026, Shueisha Games listed ATMOSFAR for Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a scheduled 2026 release and no price published. The publisher lists eight supported languages: Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, German, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese.

What Early Access is expected to mean
The developer-authored Steam Early Access FAQ says the game is intended to remain in Early Access for at least nine months. It also says the period could be extended if more content is added. In the developers’ words:
“ATMOSFAR will remain in Early Access for at least 9 months, however this period could be extended with more added content if enough Vagabonds join us on the flight.”
The same FAQ states:
“Yes, there will be a slight price increase before the game releases into its full version.”

Who is ATMOSFAR best suited to?
ATMOSFAR’s official feature set should appeal most to players who want several systems working together:
- Aerial exploration: flying and hovering are central ways to navigate the world, not optional transport between conventional levels.
- Mobile-base play: the Cloud Cruiser replaces the assumption that a permanent ground base is the only home.
- Maintenance and preparation: fuel, repairs, life support, and consumables matter before and during travel.
- Small-group co-op: the advertised online limit is four players, with shared aircraft and base activities.
- Story plus free roam: the setting supports following the colony mystery or exploring at your own pace.
It may be a weaker fit for someone seeking a purely combat-focused game, a fixed-base builder, or a survival title defined mainly by food and water meters. The official materials emphasize traversal, resource conversion, aircraft upkeep, and environmental hazards instead.
What is not yet confirmed
Several details remain unsettled because the game is still listed as coming soon and its descriptions concern planned features:
- The exact launch date in 2026.
- The final purchase price.
- Which Wasp classes will be available in the first public build.
- Exact crafting recipes, life-support capacities, fuel consumption, repair costs, and hazard statistics.
- The final scope of the world, story ending, and Cloud Cruiser building system.
- Performance requirements and supported PC hardware.
No independently published gameplay statistics, player-count figures, sales estimates, or hands-on review results are established in the official materials cited for this overview.
Bottom line
ATMOSFAR is planned as a survival-exploration game where staying alive means keeping an entire expedition system running: gather scrap, turn it into parts, craft fuel and equipment, protect your life-support reserves, maintain a Wasp, and develop the mobile Cloud Cruiser. Its floating-island setting, specialized aircraft, weather hazards, and four-player co-op give it a distinct aerial focus.
