Home Depot Pro Xtra is a free professional loyalty account for contractors and other people who purchase for work. Lowe’s PRO Account is a business account that must be registered to a U.S. organization; Lowe’s says organizations of any business type can join its MyLowe’s Pro Rewards program. Neither account is intended for ordinary personal shopping, and each retailer can verify eligibility or limit benefits under its current terms.
The practical difference is structure: Home Depot’s program is centered on an individual professional customer and qualifying purchases, while Lowe’s account is organized around a business, a primary administrator and invited users. Both programs can add business-oriented pricing, rewards and purchasing tools, but exact benefits, exclusions and status rules can change.
What a Home Depot Pro account is
Home Depot calls Pro Xtra “a rewards program for contractors and other professionals who do business with The Home Depot.” It is free to join. The account connects a professional customer’s qualifying purchases to program benefits and business services rather than functioning as a consumer credit account.
Membership is available only to professional customers who complete registration. Home Depot’s terms exclude resellers and require members to use the membership for business transactions. The retailer may ask for verification that an applicant is a professional customer, so registration is not a guarantee that every applicant will be accepted without additional information.

To receive credit for a purchase, a member must be in good standing and identify as a Pro Xtra member. In a store, that generally means entering or scanning the Pro Xtra ID. Online or in the mobile app, the shopper must be signed in to the Pro Xtra account. A purchase made without identifying the account may not be added later as a qualifying transaction.
What Home Depot counts as a qualifying purchase
Home Depot defines qualifying purchases as designated products or services bought through its U.S. stores, website or mobile app. The terms exclude taxes, fees, returns, prior purchases, gift cards, and the value of perks or promotions. Those exclusions matter when a member is trying to understand why a transaction did not generate a benefit or appear in account activity.
Home Depot benefits
Pro Xtra benefits can include competitive or preferred pricing, special delivery options, business tools, exclusive offers and Perks. Preferred Pricing is described as better-than-shelf pricing on select in-stock items for Elite and VIP members. Home Depot does not publish one universal spending threshold that automatically qualifies every member for a particular status; benefits depend on qualifying purchases and membership status under the current terms.

The Pro Xtra Credit Card may accelerate Perks earning, according to Home Depot’s program information, but it is a separate financial product. You do not need that card to open or use a Pro Xtra account.

Who qualifies for Home Depot Pro Xtra?
The clearest qualification test is whether you are a professional customer who will use the account for business purchasing. Contractors, tradespeople and other professionals who buy supplies or services for their work fit the program’s stated audience. A person buying solely for household or personal use does not fit the business-use requirement.
- Complete the Pro Xtra registration.
- Use the membership for business transactions, not personal shopping.
- Identify the membership at checkout or while signed in online.
- Keep the account in good standing and respond if Home Depot requests professional-customer verification.
- Do not use the account as a reseller account; resellers are excluded by the terms.
Home Depot’s published description does not require a particular legal entity, business license or annual-spend amount in the general qualification language. That does not prevent the retailer from requesting evidence or applying additional conditions in its terms.
What a Lowe’s PRO Account is
A Lowe’s PRO Account is an organization-based account for business customers in the United States. Lowe’s terms state that “PRO Accounts must be registered under a business name.” A primary administrator who has authority to bind the organization creates the account and can invite other users. Personal use is prohibited.

Geographic and account rules
PRO Accounts are limited to business customers in the United States, including the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories and possessions listed in Lowe’s terms. Some benefits can vary by location. The account must be used for business purchasing, and the terms prohibit personal use.
A person may keep a separate personal MyLowe’s Rewards Account, but Lowe’s says the personal and business accounts require different email addresses. This is useful when one individual shops for a company and also wants a consumer account, but it means one email address cannot serve both registrations.
Who must create and manage the account
The primary administrator must have authority to bind the organization. That person controls the organization’s account setup and can invite colleagues or other authorized users. Because purchases and reports can be shared across users, the administrator should only invite people who are permitted to buy for the business.

| Status | Annual qualifying spend | Points per qualifying dollar |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Pro | $0–$9,999 | 1 point |
| Platinum Pro | $10,000–$24,999 | 1.25 points |
| Titanium Pro | $25,000 or more | 1.5 points |
Lowe’s states that points are earned on qualifying purchases up to the first $1.5 million. One hundred points redeem for $1 of MyLowe’s Money. The status bands are annual qualifying-spend ranges, not a fee schedule for opening the account.
Paint and other published benefits
Lowe’s states that a 20% member paint discount applies to eligible paint purchases after annual qualifying paint spend reaches $3,000. The discount applies only under the program’s eligibility and product rules; reaching the dollar amount does not make every paint-related charge eligible.
Other listed benefits and tools include exclusive rewards, member deals, free standard shipping subject to exclusions, online order quoting, purchase authorization, spend reports, Scan to Pay, multi-delivery scheduling, project calculators, installation services and Lowe’s Rental access. Point expiration, delivery exclusions and other conditions are governed by the current program terms.

How to decide which account fits your situation
You are an independent contractor or sole proprietor
Pro Xtra may be the simpler fit if you want an individual professional account and do not need a multi-user organization structure. Lowe’s can also be available if you operate as a business organization and can register under its business name with an authorized administrator. The retailer’s statement that all organizations can join does not remove the requirement to use a business name.
You manage a crew or purchasing department
Lowe’s organization model is designed for centralized administration. The primary administrator can invite users, use purchase authorization and review spend reports. At Home Depot, make sure each buyer identifies the Pro Xtra membership so qualifying transactions attach to the intended account.
You are comparing rewards
Lowe’s publishes explicit annual tiers and a points-to-MyLowe’s-Money conversion. Home Depot describes benefits such as Perks and preferred pricing but does not publish one universal qualification threshold in the general terms. Compare the actual products you buy, the exclusions and the status rules in force when you enroll rather than assuming the programs pay the same way.

Signup and first-purchase checklist
For Home Depot Pro Xtra
- Start the Pro Xtra registration and provide the requested professional information.
- Confirm that the account will be used for business transactions and that you are not registering as a reseller.
- Save the Pro Xtra ID in the retailer’s approved account or mobile-app access method.
- At the first store purchase, scan or enter the Pro Xtra ID before payment; online, sign in before placing the order.
- Review the receipt or account activity and retain documentation for returns, warranty issues or a verification request.
For a Lowe’s PRO Account
- Use the free Lowe’s Business Account signup route.
- Register under the organization’s business name.
- Have a primary administrator who is authorized to bind the organization complete the setup.
- Invite only users who are authorized to make business purchases.
- Use a different email address if you also maintain a personal MyLowe’s Rewards Account.
- Review current status, points, shipping and product exclusions before setting a purchasing policy.
Common qualification problems and how to avoid them
- Personal purchases mixed with business purchases: Both programs are intended for business activity. Keep household purchases out of the pro account to avoid violating the stated use rules or confusing spend records.
- Missing purchase credit: Home Depot requires the member to identify at checkout or be signed in online. A receipt from a prior purchase may not qualify because prior purchases are excluded in the terms.
- Assuming every item earns rewards: Taxes, fees, returns, gift cards, promotions and other excluded values can reduce qualifying spend. Lowe’s also applies product and delivery exclusions to particular benefits.
- Using the wrong email at Lowe’s: Personal and business MyLowe’s accounts require different email addresses.
- Inviting unauthorized users: A Lowe’s administrator should restrict invitations and purchase authorization to people permitted to act for the organization.
- Expecting a universal Home Depot threshold: Home Depot’s general terms describe purchase-dependent benefits and Elite or VIP preferred pricing rather than one published spend threshold for everyone.
- Relying on old thresholds: Lowe’s status bands, point expiration and discount conditions can change. Verify the current terms and location rules when you sign up or plan a large purchase.
Are these accounts free, and do you need a registered company?
Home Depot Pro Xtra is free to join. Its general qualification language focuses on being a professional customer and using the account for business; it does not state one universal requirement for a formally incorporated company. Home Depot may still verify professional status.
Lowe’s PRO Account is also presented as a free business-account signup, but its terms require registration under a business name and limit participation to U.S. business customers. Lowe’s says organizations of any business type can join, so the key issue is representing an eligible organization and having an authorized administrator, not belonging to a particular industry.
What to verify before enrolling
Retailer programs are contractual and can change. Before relying on a discount, status level or delivery feature, confirm the current terms for your location and account type. Check whether the product is qualifying, whether taxes and fees are excluded, how returns affect rewards, whether points expire, and whether a benefit is limited to a particular store, service or delivery method. If the retailer asks for verification, provide only information requested through its official signup or account-support process.
