A YouTube copyright strike and a live-stream restriction run on different clocks. YouTube says a strike expires 90 days after it is applied if you complete Copyright School and have fewer than three active copyright strikes. If YouTube removed an active live stream for copyright, live-stream access is restricted for seven days—or 14 days if you get another copyright strike. Strike expiry does not restore the removed video, and YouTube’s public guidance does not say whether an already-running always-on broadcast restarts automatically.
What happens when a YouTube copyright strike expires?
YouTube says a copyright strike expires 90 days after it was applied if you complete Copyright School and have fewer than three active copyright strikes. If you do not complete Copyright School, the strike remains active. Check the strike notice and your YouTube Studio account status for the status and available resolution options: YouTube Help: Understand copyright strikes.
The 90 days concern the strike’s status on your channel. They do not mean that the video or stream removed because of the copyright request will return when the strike expires.
How is the live-stream restriction different from the 90-day strike?
When YouTube removes an active live stream for copyright, it says live-stream access is restricted for seven days. If you get another copyright strike, the live-stream restriction lasts 14 days. These are separate from the 90-day period for a strike to expire. The stated restriction periods and strike-expiry rule are described in YouTube’s copyright strike guidance.

While a live-stream restriction is active, YouTube prohibits the restricted account from using another channel to live stream. Do not try to work around the restriction by streaming from a different channel; see YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.
Will my always-on stream come back by itself?
YouTube’s public help pages reviewed here do not specify whether an existing always-on broadcast resumes automatically after a live-stream restriction ends, whether an encoder must reconnect, or whether you must start a new broadcast. Do not assume the stream will restart on its own. Check YouTube Studio and the stream’s status after the restriction period; YouTube advises checking the Studio dashboard for strikes if a live stream stops: Copyright issues with live streams.

A cloud service such as StreamNeo can keep an uploaded-video stream running from the cloud rather than from a computer at home. It does not remove a YouTube restriction, clear a copyright strike, or guarantee that YouTube will allow a broadcast to resume. If you use it, confirm your channel’s status and streaming access in YouTube Studio.
Does the removed stream return after 90 days?
No. YouTube explicitly says, “The video is not reinstated” when a copyright strike expires. Strike expiry changes the strike status under the stated conditions; it does not restore the removed video or stream archive. See YouTube Help: About copyright removal requests.

Is a Content ID claim the same as a copyright strike?
No. YouTube says Content ID claims typically do not result in copyright strikes. A claim and a strike are different account events, so do not treat every copyright notice as a strike or assume a claim has triggered the strike-expiry clock.
Live streams can also be interrupted while YouTube scans for third-party content. The public guidance does not establish that every interruption is itself a copyright strike. If a stream stops, check the specific notice in YouTube Studio and the guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

What can you do about a strike?
The appropriate route depends on whether you accept the removal, believe it was mistaken, or can obtain cooperation from the person who requested it. YouTube describes these options in its copyright strike guidance and copyright removal request guidance.
Complete Copyright School and wait
If you complete Copyright School and have fewer than three active copyright strikes, YouTube says the strike expires 90 days after it was applied. This does not reinstate the removed video.

Ask the claimant to retract the request
You can contact the person who submitted the removal request and ask them to retract it. Whether they agree is up to them.
Submit a counter notification
YouTube describes a counter notification as a legal process for a removal you believe was mistaken or that you believe qualifies for a copyright exception. It is not a casual appeal. Consider getting legal advice if you are unsure whether to submit one or the issue is complex. YouTube explains the process at Changes to account standing.
If you have a licence for the material
A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption to a live stream. YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without that allowlisting, a live stream may be interrupted even if you have a licence or have limited the stream to territories where you own the required rights. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
