Apple’s documented way to remove those models is to turn Apple Intelligence off. While it is off, you should expect Apple Intelligence-dependent features to be unavailable. Turn it on again and the models start downloading; how long that takes varies.
How to remove the on-device models
Apple says that turning Apple Intelligence off removes its on-device models. Its support instructions do not describe a separate manual model-deletion option. To remove them, switch Apple Intelligence off in Settings.

What happens to Apple Intelligence features while it is off?
Plan on Apple Intelligence-dependent features being unavailable while Apple Intelligence is off. Apple lists capabilities such as Writing Tools, summaries, image features, translation, Siri enhancements, and notification features, but does not document the effect of model removal on each one individually or map every feature to its on-device and server-side dependencies. That means it would be too broad to say that every server-assisted feature necessarily stops in precisely the same way.

What happens when you turn it on again?
On a compatible, updated device, turn Apple Intelligence on under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. After setup, the on-device models start downloading. Apple says the download time varies and recommends keeping the device connected to Wi-Fi and power for the fastest download experience.
How much storage will turning it off free?
Apple does not give a per-device estimate of the storage you will recover. Its published figures are storage requirements, not a promise that turning the feature off will free that exact amount on your device.

Apple’s July 2026 support material gives different requirements across platforms and device groups: 7 GB for the platforms covered by one article; up to 8 GB for other supported iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro models; up to 14 GB for specified newer devices; and up to 1.5 GB for Apple Watch. These are Apple’s stated requirements, not measured or guaranteed reclaimed space.

Apple Intelligence compatibility and feature availability depend on the device, installed software, language, and region. Apple’s July 2026 requirements article lists iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16-or-later models, iPad mini (A17 Pro) and M1-or-later iPads, Apple silicon Macs, and Apple Vision Pro among the devices covered. Requirements and availability can change with software updates, so check Apple’s current requirements and setup information for your device and region.
