Temple is a small wearable worn near the side of the head. Its makers say it continuously tracks a signal related to brain blood flow, called BrainFlow, and displays Entropy, a live index they describe as the body’s metabolic and sympathetic demand. Those are the device’s intended outputs—not proof that it can diagnose a medical condition or measure blood flow throughout the brain.
What does the Temple device measure?
Temple’s makers describe two main outputs: BrainFlow and Entropy. The device sits at the temple and uses light-based sensing; company descriptions and coverage say the sensor collects signals from tissue and blood vessels associated with blood flow and oxygenation. The outputs should be understood as a wearable signal and a company-defined index, not as established clinical diagnoses.
BrainFlow
Temple presents BrainFlow as a continuous measurement related to cerebral blood flow. A comparison with time-domain near-infrared spectroscopy (TD-NIRS) has been reported, but India Today said on October 2, 2026 that the comparison had not been peer reviewed. That report does not establish that one sensor on the outside of the head reliably measures blood flow across the brain.
Entropy
Temple describes Entropy as a live measure of metabolic and sympathetic demand—the body’s “cost of being alive.” Deepinder Goyal has said the reading changes with sleep, stress, exercise, caffeine and meditation. This is Temple’s own metric and interpretation; the cited coverage does not establish Entropy as a standard clinical biomarker.

Cognitive load, stress and fatigue
Coverage has described these as patterns Temple aims to help users track. They should not be read as proven clinical measures or diagnoses. A device-generated change may be informative to the wearer, but it does not by itself identify a cause or confirm a health condition.
Does Temple measure blood flow to the brain or just the scalp?
The distinction remains a validation question, not a settled accusation. Temple has publicized a comparison of BrainFlow with TD-NIRS, a method reported to distinguish deeper brain-tissue signals from superficial scalp layers. However, the comparison had not been peer reviewed as of October 2, 2026, according to India Today’s report.
In an earlier report, published January 6, 2026, The Indian Express quoted neurologist Dr Praveen Gupta, who argued that a single external sensor cannot reliably represent blood flow across both sides of the brain and its many deep and small arteries. He said robust evidence for reliable measurement of intracranial blood flow under differing physiological conditions was lacking at that time. That is a dated expert assessment; the later, still-unreviewed comparison is relevant, but does not by itself resolve the concern.

How Temple differs from clinical assessment
A continuously worn sensor and a clinical test serve different purposes. A wearable can present its own signal or index over time; a clinical assessment uses methods selected and interpreted for a medical question. The Indian Express report names angiography, CT angiography, MRI angiography, Doppler ultrasound and transcranial Doppler among established tools used to assess brain blood flow. Temple readings should not be treated as interchangeable with these tests or used alone to diagnose brain disease.
If you have symptoms or a medical concern, seek clinical assessment rather than relying on a Temple reading. The device’s intended role and the validation described in the cited coverage do not establish it as a substitute for medical evaluation.
What is confirmed about the launch?
Deepinder Goyal announced six launch colours on October 1, 2026: True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk. He said pre-orders would open soon, “hopefully next week,” subject to certainty on a few remaining details, and that early-access waitlist members would receive priority. This was a tentative plan, not confirmation that pre-orders had opened.

As of October 2, the price remained unclear in reporting. India Today also described a limited-edition launch that had previously been expected to ship before the end of 2026; that was a target, not a guaranteed delivery date. The launch details were reported by NDTV and India Today.

NDTV reported that Goyal said Entropy tracked a metabolic-cart curve across more than 100 cardio sessions, with a reported correlation of r=0.93 and p<0.001; he also said heart rate reached r=0.55. These are Goyal’s company-reported figures as relayed by NDTV, not an independently verified or peer-reviewed performance result established in the cited coverage.
