A crypto exchange bonus is a promotional reward an exchange offers when you meet the conditions of a specific campaign. It might depend on depositing or transferring funds, making eligible purchases or trades, or keeping a required balance for a set period. Before acting, verify the current official terms for your account: eligibility, deadlines, qualifying activity, reward calculation, withdrawal restrictions, and any clawback or fee triggers.
What a crypto exchange bonus can require
There is no universal exchange-bonus formula. The campaign terms define what counts and when a reward is actually available. For example, Coinbase describes funding bonuses based on eligible net inflows brought onto the platform and maintained for a stated period. Eligible activity may include a purchase funded externally, an external-wallet transfer, cash or USDC deposit, wire transfer, or direct deposit. Eligibility and terms can differ by region, customer, and campaign. Coinbase’s Funding Bonus overview explains the program structure.
Other offers use different mechanics. Crypto.com’s campaign FAQ gives an example in which the bonus is calculated by multiplying an eligible net deposit by the bonus rate; the example requires maintaining a balance for 12 months and describes possible pro-rata clawback fees after withdrawals that take the balance below the required amount. A cited Kraken European campaign requires both a specified deposit and qualifying trade amount, and holds its BTC reward from withdrawal for 45 days. Those periods and requirements belong to the named examples, not all campaigns from either exchange. Crypto.com’s FAQ and Kraken’s promotion terms provide the examples.
How to verify an offer before participating
- Open the official offer and its full terms. Start from the exchange’s official website or app, then compare the detailed terms with the offer shown in your own account. A headline or referral page may leave out restrictions. Coinbase’s terms page illustrates how detailed and campaign-specific the conditions can be; it includes historical and dated offers, so do not treat a listed campaign as currently available without checking its dates. - Check whether you qualify. Look for eligible countries or states, age and account requirements, identity verification, new-customer status, opt-in steps, and whether the promotion is targeted to your account. An offer being visible online does not establish that your account is eligible.
- Write down every relevant date. Distinguish the enrollment window from the period for completing activity, transaction settlement deadline, reward-credit timing, and any later balance-maintenance or withdrawal-hold period.
- Translate the activity requirement into a specific action. Determine whether the campaign calls for an eligible deposit, transfer, purchase, trade volume, net inflow, or a combination. Check minimums and excluded transaction types; a transfer between your own accounts on the same platform may not meet a requirement for external funds.
- Work out the reward calculation. Identify the rate, definition of eligible balance or net deposit, maximum cap, valuation time, currency conversion method, and treatment of withdrawals or other outflows. Do not infer the value from a headline amount alone.
- Confirm when the reward is usable and what can reverse it. Check when it will be credited, when it can be withdrawn or transferred off-platform, and whether withdrawals, a reduced balance, or a change in subscription or account status can trigger a fee, forfeiture, or reclaim.
- Compare the reward with the commitment. Assess the amount and duration of funds tied up, any required trading and associated fees, and the possibility that crypto prices change while assets are held. A credited reward is not necessarily equivalent to immediately withdrawable cash.
How to compare two promotions
Use the same criteria for each offer, and compare the actual terms displayed for your account rather than generic promotional pages.

- It does not by itself mean the reward is cash, guaranteed profit, or immediately withdrawable.
- It does not establish that every customer or location can participate; eligibility can vary by campaign and account.
- It does not reveal whether completing a deposit alone is enough, or whether trading, a minimum balance, or another step is also required.
- It does not show whether withdrawing funds later can reduce the reward or trigger a fee.
