NFL schedule times are normally labeled in Eastern Time (ET), not automatically your local time. The schedule may also offer a LOCAL view, while the NFL’s Ways to Watch guide adjusts listings after you enter your location and viewing services. Read the time-zone label first, then confirm the local clock time and outlet for your specific game.
The kickoff time and the network or streaming service are separate pieces of information. A listing such as “1:00 p.m. ET — CBS” tells you when the game is scheduled to start and which outlet is assigned in that listing; it does not guarantee that every viewer can receive that broadcast. Market, rights, subscription, device, provider login, and blackout rules can change what you can watch.
How to read an NFL game listing at a glance
A typical NFL schedule entry combines several fields:
- Date: the calendar day on which the game is scheduled.
- Kickoff: the planned start time, commonly shown in ET on the main schedule.
- Location or LOCAL view: a local-time display, when available, or a location-personalized result in the Ways to Watch guide.
- Network or service: the television network, cable channel, or streaming platform assigned to that game window.
- Status: a confirmed assignment, a tentative flex-window game, or a matchup whose time and outlet are still to be determined.
For example, “8:20 p.m. ET — NBC” means the listed kickoff is 8:20 p.m. Eastern Time and NBC is the assigned outlet in that schedule entry. It does not mean 8:20 p.m. everywhere, and it does not prove that your local NBC station will carry that particular matchup.

What time is kickoff in my time zone?
Start with the label attached to the time. NFL schedule pages commonly display windows such as 1:00 p.m. ET, 4:25 p.m. ET, 8:20 p.m. ET, and 8:15 p.m. ET. Those are Eastern Time values unless the page explicitly switches to LOCAL. The schedule’s LOCAL option and the NFL Ways to Watch guide are the safest ways to see the clock time for your location.
Use the schedule’s LOCAL display
- Open the official NFL schedule and select the week or date containing the game.
- Look for the time-zone control or the label marked LOCAL.
- Set or confirm your location if the page asks for it.
- Read the resulting kickoff time together with the date. A late-night ET game can appear on the previous calendar date in a western time zone.
If LOCAL is not available, convert the ET time using the location and date of the game. A 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff is generally 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time when both locations are observing the same daylight-saving rule, but the date matters. Daylight-saving transitions and locations that do not change clocks can alter the difference. Do not rely on a fixed “three hours earlier” rule without checking the game date.

Does the time on the NFL schedule mean Eastern time or local time?
Unless the page says otherwise, treat the primary schedule time as ET. The NFL separates ET and LOCAL displays so readers can tell whether a number is a league-wide reference time or a viewer-local clock time. A listing may show “1:00 p.m. ET” beside a LOCAL option that displays a different hour for you.
Do not describe every time on an NFL page as “local.” Check the heading, selector, or time-zone abbreviation next to the number. The same rule applies to screenshots, search-result snippets, and television guides: a guide can default to the station’s market or your device settings, while the league schedule may be using ET.

Why the date can change after conversion
Games that begin in the evening ET can cross midnight in Europe and other regions. A Thursday night game in the United States may be listed on Friday locally in another country. Preserve both the converted time and the local date when adding a game to a calendar.
What channel is the NFL game on today?
The outlet depends on the game’s window, market, season assignment, and rights. The following map summarizes the current NFL support guidance; it is a guide to the usual assignment, not a permanent rule.

Networks and services can receive different games in local, national, and special-event windows. Read the outlet shown beside your matchup rather than inferring it from the day alone.
Why does the TV listing say one network while my local guide shows another game?
This usually reflects the difference between a national schedule assignment and a local-market feed. CBS and FOX carry Sunday afternoon games, but each station chooses which authorized game to show in its market. A national NFL page may identify the window or rights holder while your electronic program guide displays the specific game selected for your ZIP code.

Check these possibilities
- Different market feed: Your station may be carrying another Sunday afternoon matchup.
- Time-zone mismatch: The league page may show ET while the guide is displaying your local clock time.
- Provider guide data: Cable, satellite, and streaming guides can update at different times.
- Special or exclusive rights: A game may be assigned to a streaming service or NFL Network rather than a local broadcast station.
- Blackout or rights restriction: The game may not be authorized for your location or service.
- Schedule change: A flex move may have occurred after the guide was cached.
Enter your location in the NFL Ways to Watch guide, then compare its result with your provider’s live channel guide on game day. The location-aware result is more useful than assuming that every CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC, or ESPN listing is identical nationwide.
How do I find out whether a game is available in my area?
Availability is a separate question from the published network. Use this sequence for the most reliable answer:
- Identify the exact game. Record the teams, date, week, and current kickoff time.
- Confirm the time basis. Note whether the NFL page shows ET or LOCAL.
- Open the NFL Ways to Watch guide. Enter your viewing location so the guide can tailor the listing.
- Select your viewing services. The guide can filter by television provider and available services. Its generic TV Provider choice assumes access to FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN, and NFL Network; connect or verify your actual provider rather than treating that assumption as proof.
- Check the device. A service may work on a phone or tablet but require a supported app, connected-TV device, desktop browser, or provider sign-in for a larger screen.
- Verify rights and blackouts. Local-market rules, out-of-market restrictions, territory rights, and temporary blackouts can override the logo shown in a guide.
- Recheck shortly before kickoff. Late-season flex decisions and guide corrections can change the final time or outlet.
Local versus out-of-market Sunday afternoon games
The NFL describes CBS and FOX as the outlets for local-market Sunday afternoon games. For out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, NFL support identifies NFL Sunday Ticket, available through YouTube TV, as the relevant package. Those are different use cases: a local broadcast is determined by your market, while an out-of-market package is intended to show Sunday afternoon games that are not being broadcast locally.

What NFL+ does and does not imply
NFL+ offers live local and nationally televised games on mobile phones and tablets. Viewing on a connected TV or desktop may require a supported cable or streaming-provider sign-in. The service description is not a universal promise that every game is available on every device. Check the game, location, device, and account conditions shown for the current season.

Can NFL game times or TV channels change?
Yes. Some assignments are deliberately left open, and games in flex scheduling windows are tentative. NFL guidance says designated games in Weeks 16 and 17 can remain unassigned until later announcements. Week 18 dates, start times, and networks are announced after Week 17 because the league needs the playoff picture before selecting the matchups and windows.
Why late-season changes happen
The league can move a game to a more appropriate national window when playoff implications, competitive interest, broadcast planning, venue events, travel, or other logistics warrant it. A game that appears at a provisional time can therefore receive a different kickoff or outlet.
How to avoid relying on an outdated listing
- Check the official NFL schedule after flex announcements.
- Look for a status such as to be determined or a flex-window notice.
- Refresh your television provider’s guide instead of relying on a saved screenshot.
- Reconfirm the listing on game day, especially for Weeks 16–18.
- Update calendar entries when the date, time, or outlet changes.
What “to be determined,” “flex,” and a confirmed listing mean

How the NFL schedule is organized
The NFL regular season consists of 272 games over 18 weeks. Each team plays 17 regular-season games and has one bye week. Those figures describe the league’s schedule structure, not the number of games available on one channel or to one household.

Schedule makers balance fans, broadcast partners, venue events, travel, and logistics. That is why a team’s apparent weekly pattern can contain different kickoff windows, bye weeks, travel sequences, and late-season changes. Use the published game entry—not a rule of thumb based on the team or weekday—as the final authority.

A practical decision framework for choosing how to watch
When two possible viewing options appear, compare them on five separate axes:

Do not choose a service solely because its icon appears in a broad viewing guide. The guide lists possible ways to watch; it is not a complete entitlement matrix for every package, device, territory, or blackout condition.
Troubleshooting: the game is not showing when or where expected
The kickoff time looks wrong
Check whether you are comparing ET with a local guide, and confirm the date after conversion. Reopen the NFL schedule’s LOCAL display or enter your location in Ways to Watch. If the game is in a flex window, look for a newer league announcement.

Verify that your provider carries the named network or service in your location and that you are signed in on a supported device. A generic provider selection in a guide does not establish that your account includes every listed channel.
Your local station has a different matchup
That can be normal for Sunday afternoon regional broadcasts. Compare the station’s market listing with the NFL’s location-aware guide. If the game is out of market, check the applicable Sunday afternoon package rather than expecting the local CBS or FOX feed to carry it.
The game disappeared from the guide
Refresh the provider guide and check the official NFL listing. Late-season games can be assigned after earlier schedules were published, and flex moves can leave cached guide data temporarily out of date.
A stream works on a phone but not on a television
Review the service’s device rules. NFL support specifically distinguishes mobile-phone and tablet viewing from connected-TV or desktop viewing that may require a supported provider sign-in. Confirm the app, operating system, account, and subscription before kickoff.

- Refresh the listing on game day.
