An 8,000 Hz keyboard can report its state up to 8,000 times per second, giving a nominal 0.125 ms between report opportunities. At 1,000 Hz, that interval is 1 ms. The higher rate shortens the reporting interval by 0.875 ms, but that is not the same as making a keypress reach the screen 0.875 ms sooner. Whether anyone can feel a difference depends on the keyboard, the rest of the system, and the player; the available evidence does not establish a universal perceptible or competitive advantage.
What does 8,000 Hz mean on a keyboard?
Hz means cycles or events per second. A keyboard’s polling rate describes how often it can report its state to the connected device. The reciprocal of the rate gives the nominal interval between report opportunities:

These intervals are arithmetic derived from the polling frequencies, not measurements of total key-to-screen latency. Calling 0.125 ms “the keyboard’s latency” confuses how often it can report with how long the full input path takes.
Does 8,000 Hz make a keypress faster on screen?
Not by itself. A keypress passes through several stages: physical contact, switch actuation, keyboard scanning and processing, USB transmission, computer input handling, game processing, and display response. Polling rate describes only the reporting schedule within that chain.

Measurements can therefore describe different things. RTINGS’ keyboard latency method uses a solenoid to emulate a finger and measures from key contact through switch actuation and keyboard processing until the input reaches the computer. RTINGS averages 200 samples per test and plots them to show variation and outliers. This is a keyboard latency test, not a human-perception study.
Razer’s Huntsman V3 Pro 8KHz product page reports a manufacturer-measured 0.58 ms average in a comparison of 20 measurements. Razer says all keyboards in that comparison were set to 0.1 mm actuation and 8,000 Hz, with timing measured from switch actuation to receipt at the host USB port. Its stated boundary does not include the entire path to a visible response; Razer cautions that end-to-end latency may differ. See Razer’s product-page details.

Can you feel the difference between 1,000 Hz and 8,000 Hz?
There is no established universal yes or no. The nominal report interval is shorter at 8,000 Hz, but the reviewed sources do not provide a controlled human study comparing people’s perception of 1,000 Hz and 8,000 Hz keyboard polling. A sub-millisecond change in one part of the chain does not prove that every player will consciously notice it, or that it will improve performance in every game.

For ordinary typing and general computer use, CORSAIR says high polling rates are not necessary. That is manufacturer guidance rather than an independent perception finding. CORSAIR’s polling-rate explainer also uses the K70 RGB PRO as an 8,000 Hz keyboard example.
How to compare 1,000 Hz and 8,000 Hz keyboards
Polling rate is one specification, not a complete measure of responsiveness. When comparing models, look for the conditions and boundary behind any latency figure.

- Check what the test measures. Switch actuation to USB receipt, key contact to computer receipt, and full input-to-display response are different measurements. Do not compare them as if they were interchangeable.
- Look beyond a single average. A set of samples can reveal variability and outliers that one average hides. RTINGS says it averages 200 samples and plots them in its method.
- Compare actuation and switch behavior. Results can depend on the tested actuation setting. Razer’s 0.58 ms average, for example, is reported from a comparison with all keyboards at 0.1 mm actuation and 8,000 Hz.
- Verify the exact model and connection settings. Check that the specific keyboard and connection mode support the advertised rate, and that the rate is enabled. Razer says the Huntsman V3 Pro 8KHz rate can be adjusted in Synapse.
- Prioritize fit and use. For a keyboard used mostly for typing, layout, switch feel, and price are more practical decision factors than an 8,000 Hz label alone.
Should you pay extra for 8,000 Hz?
Consider 8,000 Hz as a feature that reduces the nominal interval between report opportunities—not as a guarantee of a visibly faster or more competitive keyboard. If you are comparing gaming models, use latency results only when their test conditions and measurement boundaries are clear, and weigh them alongside actuation behavior, consistency, layout, feel, and cost.
The Razer Huntsman V3 Pro 8KHz and CORSAIR K70 RGB PRO are examples of keyboards documented by their manufacturers as supporting 8,000 Hz. They are examples to compare, not proof that the polling rate alone makes either model the right choice.
