Quick answer: Firefox opens its webpage screenshot tool with Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS. Edge uses Ctrl+Shift+S for its Screenshot feature. Chrome has no equivalent one-step browser shortcut in the documented workflow: open DevTools, press Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+P (macOS), search for screenshot, and choose a command. How to capture a webpage in Firefox
Firefox has the most direct webpage shortcut in this comparison. On Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+Shift+S. On macOS, press Command+Shift+S. The Firefox screenshot tool can capture what is visible or the entire webpage, then copy the image or save it.

Keyboard method
- Open the page you want to capture.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+S (macOS).
- Choose the visible-page or full-page capture option shown by Firefox.
- Use the copy control to place the image on the clipboard, or save the file when you need a local copy.
Context-menu and toolbar methods
If you do not want to use the shortcut, right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. On macOS, Control-clicking an empty area provides the equivalent context-menu access. Mozilla also documents a toolbar button as another way to open the tool.
The shortcut and menu command operate on webpage content rather than the entire desktop. Browser chrome such as tabs and the operating-system taskbar is not part of the webpage capture.
How to capture a webpage in Microsoft Edge
Press Ctrl+Shift+S in Edge to open Screenshot. The feature can capture a selected area or the complete webpage, including content below the current viewport.
Full-page capture
- Navigate to the page and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the result, then use Edge’s controls to mark it up, copy it, or save it.
Selected-area capture and alternate entry points
Choose the selection option when you need only part of the page and drag across the region. Edge also exposes Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu and from the Edge Settings menu, so those paths are useful when a keyboard shortcut is intercepted by another utility.

Microsoft’s feature documentation warns that availability and functionality may vary by device type, market, and browser version. If Screenshot is absent, update Edge through its normal browser settings and check the right-click and Settings entry points before assuming the shortcut is unsupported.
How to capture a webpage in Google Chrome
Chrome’s documented process is a DevTools workflow, not a single browser screenshot shortcut. The key combination Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+P on macOS opens the DevTools Command Menu; it does not capture the page by itself.
Open the DevTools screenshot commands
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I or F12 on Windows/Linux. On macOS, press Command+Option+I.
- Open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+P (macOS).
- Type screenshot into the command field.
- Select the command that matches your need, such as a visible-area, full-size, or selected-area capture.
Chrome’s DevTools documentation describes area screenshots as a Command Menu action and notes that area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked. Dock DevTools to the browser window before attempting an area selection.
Capture the entire page in Chrome
- Open DevTools with the platform shortcut above.
- Turn on device mode using the device-shaped icon in the DevTools toolbar, or the documented device-mode control.
- Open the More options menu in device mode.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot.
- Wait for Chrome to generate the image, then save it from the download prompt or your normal download location.
This command includes content outside the visible viewport. It is different from a normal screen capture, which records only the pixels currently shown on the monitor.

Capture only a region
Use the Command Menu’s screenshot search and select the area-capture command. If Chrome does not let you draw a region, check that DevTools is docked; the documented area workflow will not work while the tools are undocked.
Browser webpage capture versus Windows screen capture
Windows offers shortcuts that operate below the browser level. Windows+Shift+S opens a screen-region capture. Windows+PrtScn captures the full screen and saves it in the PicturesScreenshots subfolder. These commands include browser tabs, toolbars, other windows, and desktop elements that happen to be visible. They are not substitutes for Edge’s webpage Screenshot feature or Firefox’s webpage tool.
Use a Windows shortcut when you need a record of the screen layout or a dialog outside the page. Use a browser tool when you need page content beyond the current viewport without including the rest of the desktop.
Choosing the right shortcut for the job
Need the fastest full webpage
Firefox and Edge provide a direct shortcut followed by a full-page choice. Chrome requires opening DevTools first, then using device mode’s full-size command.

Need only what is visible
Firefox’s screenshot panel, Edge’s selected-area mode, or Chrome’s screenshot commands can limit the capture. A Windows region capture is appropriate only when browser chrome or another application must be included.
Need a repeatable developer workflow
Chrome’s DevTools commands are useful when you already inspect elements, emulate devices, or need a capture tied to developer tooling. Firefox and Edge are simpler for occasional page images because their shortcuts launch a dedicated capture interface directly.

The shortcut does nothing
- Confirm the platform modifier: use Ctrl on Windows/Linux and Command on macOS where specified.
- Click the page first so the browser, rather than another application, has keyboard focus.
- Try the browser’s menu path: Firefox’s page context menu, Edge’s right-click or Settings menu, or Chrome’s DevTools toolbar.
- Check for keyboard-manager, accessibility, remote-desktop, or corporate-policy software that may reserve the key combination.
Chrome opens a menu but no image appears
Ctrl+Shift+P or Command+Shift+P only opens the DevTools Command Menu. Type screenshot and select a screenshot command. For a whole page, switch to device mode and choose Capture a full size screenshot from More options.
Chrome area capture is unavailable
Dock DevTools to the browser window. Chrome’s documentation specifically notes that area capture will not work when DevTools is undocked.

The full-page image stops before the bottom
Make sure you selected the browser’s full-page command rather than a visible-screen or region command. Pages that load content only after scrolling may also need time to finish rendering; wait for the page to settle and repeat the capture.
Edge Screenshot is missing
Use the right-click menu and Edge Settings menu as alternate entry points. Microsoft notes that feature availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version, so the exact interface may differ.
Firefox offers only a visible capture
Open Firefox’s Screenshot tool from the page context menu or toolbar and look for its full-page choice. If the menu is unavailable, confirm that you right-clicked an empty part of the webpage rather than a browser control or an embedded object.
